Hi all,

I added a question about this to my new member's thread but realised I am now allowed to post in here, apologies if posting again is frowned upon, I'll know for next time if it is!

I refilled my protank tonight for the first time. I wanted to add a different flavour so let it run down to what I thought was empty. I noticed that the vapour sits lower than where you can see, are there any tips on how to know when to refill?
I then refilled and put liquid in up to where I can see visible parts of the coil. When turning the tank right way up this shows liquid to about 3/4 visible in tank.
When I fired it up, I got absolutely nothing. No noise, no vapour. I am stumped, what have I done, and how do I fix it?

Appreciate any help! I only bought one tank to start with so am stuck with nothing to vape! Help!

Thanks

The only reasons it wouldn't fire and make vapor is because of either the coil or the tank isn't making full contact with the battery. Un screw your tank, make sure the coil is tightly screwed in. Then screw your tank back on and make sure the connection isn't loose. If this still doesn't work, Maybe you need to replace your coil. Protanks are known for dud coils.
If this still doesn't work, maybe there's something wrong with the battery.

To give suggestionon when to fill the tank, fill it at that point where the liquid level is just barely showing (where its hiding behind the lower stainless ring the glass sits on). Eventhough at this point, there's still a good bit left. The problem is that the level is so low that there's much less juice pressure near the coils which makes it harder to wick. Plus, the level is low enough to cause dry hits if youre holding the tank horizontal while taking a drag because the juice isnt even making contact with the wicks. Hope this all helps!

I usually refill my minis when the liquid gets just down below the top of the base, so functionally it really works more like a .75-1ml tank. The general rule of thumb I have seen is to refill when it gets down to about 1/3 capacity.

Jayme has it right, just take the base off, make sure the coil is screwed in tightly (as tight as you can get it with your fingers, the top piece will rotate before you over torque and strip it or anything like that). Also make sure the part of the base that connects to your battery is dry and clean, then make sure the contact on your battery is dry and clean. If it still won't work swap out the coil for a new one.

Nah it really isn't surprising, sometimes they are a snug fit and when you unscrew it the coil will loosen slightly. I wouldn't say it is unsafe, when I want to change the flavors I generally vape it down to where the liquid is just covering the wicks on the coil, haven't had any issues doing that but you will probably end up dumping a little bit out.

Also to expand upon what Larry said. You may find that dumping out the juice isn't where you get waste when changing flavors, the issue might be with the coil that still has the old juice in it, if you don't clean it you may end up vaping a whole tank with an odd mixture (or a great mixture depending on your tastes lol) of liquid. This effect can vary greatly depending on the juice and the flavors you use.

Thank you thank you. It would appear it was the coil needing tightened. Surprised that this had come loose after only one fill?

Is it unsafe to vape it down to empty then, will that cause damage? If that is the case, and you want to fill with a different flavour, do you have to sling the leftover juice? Seems a bit of a waste?

Not surprising at all; the heating and cooling cycles tend to get things worked loose. Good habit to check it each time you refill!

I wouldnt say its exactly 'unsafe' but trust me you do NOT want to taste that burnt wick taste when you let it run too low hehehe. I usually refill mine when it gets to grommet that seals up the coil just to be safe.

As for wasting the leftover juice, unless your juice comes in glass bottles, you more than likely need a syringe to put it back into the plastic dropper bottles most of it comes in..

You just need to rinse out the tank with water, let it dry, then refill it with the new juice. You can rinse out the coil, too, but you should let it dry for a day or so before you use it again. I put in a fresh coil, then let the old one dry and put it away for re-use next time.

Thanks, that is quite a good idea so have done that this morning. New coil in while other stays at home to dry.

Is it really obvious when your coil is dead? I am not sure how long to expect from each one. I only used to smoke in evenings and at weekends, so my vaping habits will most likely be the same, although the last two nights I think I may have been vaping a lot more than I would have been smoking, hoping it's the novelty of being able to use it inside, and that it will wear off!
