Maybe someone can help me out? I recently upgraded my gear from an eGo-T and EVOD, to a couple of SMOK Winder 1500VV bats and some SMOK aro pyrex tanks. I have two 50/50 juices that I like (NicQuids midnight express 1.2) and a local tobacco that is a lot clearer in color.

Basically, ive been playing with the VV and 2.4 coils trying to find my sweet spot. with the NicQuids, I basically have to turn it all the way down to 3.2 to keep from getting a burnt taste, and with the local, its amazing at 4... my problem is that I have to keep backing the volts down because, even though its the same juice at the same volts, it starts getting a burnt taste to it after I've pulled on it for a bit. I mean, I guess I could be vaping too heavily, but to be honest, I haven't increased over what I did with the EVOD and that thing never flinched.

any suggestions from the field?

There are three ways to get a burnt taste,
    #1 wicking
    #2 air flow
    #3 power
and they combine to make up the thermodynamics of the device.

So you have already tried the different power settings, #3
Is the draw to stiff, or is it airy? #2
If the draw is airy enough #2, the only thing left is not wicking enough liquid to the coil #1

    Ah, choices! :)

The MVP2 will get you going at less cost. The Lavatube will also need batteries and a charger.

The MVP2 battery will ultimately die (as will the ones for the Lavatube, of course), at which time you toss the whole thing in the recycle bin. Lavatube batteries die, you replace them only, at less cost.

Rectangular solid or cylinder - which is more comfortable to you? (And if you like the box form, there are also other box mods around, some of which do take replaceable batteries.)

Might then be a wicking problem, as in not fast enough to keep up.

Next time you have it apart, wiggle the chimney off the base and inspect the flavor wicks. Some remove them entirely for thicker juices, although if it then leaks, you'll need to put some back. I replace them (Kanger single coils come with 2 - 1mm strands) with one piece of cotton yarn, and that works well with my juices. And any 100% cotton will work - cotton balls, etc. Just tease out enough strands to do the job. It doesn't take much - cotton expands when wet.

I had the same problem with some cheap Evod tanks I bought recently for my ego battery. I took them apart and I have no idea what the wicking material is. It's not like any silica I've ever seen. I gently removed that junk & re-wicked with some cotton and was back into vaping heaven in no time. I always mix my juice at 70/30 PG/VG so I don't think is was due to thick juice. I think it's just the wicking material that some coil manufacturers are using.

Good info from everyone, much appreciated! I think the coils were bottom barrel, and that was my problem. Here's my rationale: I purchased two resistances but neither had it printed anywhere on the coil; the wicks seemed slightly different than what I am used to seeing; I noticed that all the older coils I had that were from more reputable dealers had the resistance clearly marked and seemed to be working better. They were used and cleaned a number of times already so "better" was still unsat. I picked up a kanger Aerotank (from the same shop oddly enough) and checked all the parts for legit-ness. Now, I'm vaping between 3.8 and 4.2 perfectly all day. Aerotank is awesome BTW. Love the airflow control. I learned to be a bit more careful what I buy, and that some placed are great for one thing and crap for other. I'll have to have different shops for different items it seems!
