Why is the Temp Control Sub-forum under devices completely empty? I know there were hundreds of threads in there.

It will soon be deleted - it got missed.
Most verything these days is VV/VW and most are Temp Control so those are all in the main discussion area, having them separated is way outdated
Only the specialized devices kept their subs - Liquid Feed, Mechs, (Pod Mods will also be in there) and batteries and Chargers

I bet the temp control subforum is still in the database with all it's threads and posts, but a setting or configuration is making it redirect to the parent. At least I hope so as this should be an easy fix. And if not, I hope the database was backed-up lol.

I do see the point of just keeping it with all other APV discussion. One thing people outside of ECF complain about ECF and why they don't want to use it, is that there are too many forums so consolidation as much as possible may be a good thing for ECF as far as attracting new users.

When reddit banned a bunch of vaping subs and made the rest of them NSFW, I tried to get people to come over to ECF (mostly luring them becuase we have classifieds which were all shut down at reddit) but the complaint of "too confusing and too many sections" was the main factor they just stayed at reddit, despite hating what was done there.
But they did visit my nic base blog post when I linked it lol, judging from it's view count.

There are still some things getting organized...still a work in progress !
Everything will all be where it's supposed to be and easy to see

APV and Mods Discussion is now Devices and cleaned up as you see - well except for that Temp Control left over.
And Pod Mods will be moved into there too.

Working on having them get Vaping Hardware done, but I am guessing they will be off for the weekend.

When you tried searching within a specific thread did you click on "Search threads" under Advanced search?

When I click on "Search threads" then the options for selecting specific threads, and date ranges, are displayed.

I just did a search, no date range, for "banana" in DIY E-Liquid and got 30 pages of results from within that sub.

Yes but you can't select a specific thread to search.

I did some searching and it looks perhaps Xenforo did away with this and old site owners with lots of big threads are bummed out about it. Not sure if there is an add-on that brings this ability back, but it would no doubt cost money. It seems it's a feature only useful to sites that are large and old with huge threads (like ecf) so Xenforo said screw you, we're getting rid of it lol. oh well.

From UJ's post, it looks like "what we have is it".

The question I have is, how many users on ECF actually do "deep" searches. I do from time-to-time but not very often.

Perhaps XF removed that functionality because most forum users don't do deep searches???

I don't think (but I'm not 100% sure) that Xenforo even makes such an add-on, free or paid.

As for 3rd party FREE add-ons, the problem there is that they are least likely to be updated and most likely to stop working and even break a site. For a site as large and well-established like ECF I would never even consider a free 3rd party add-on or theme.

I checked a few other Xenforo forums and they do not have this capability so given what I found through google and that, I think Xenforo just dropped that capability and alienated their large forum user base. Oh well. Will have to live without it most likely. Was nice while it lasted.

I don't recall being able to select a single thread within a Sub to search via the old system. Could be wrong, I just don't remember it being that way. Or maybe it was there and I never searched that way. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Whatever, I'll do just fine with what we have now.

And honestly, how many forum users ever did deep searches??? We all know some who have (including me) but I think deep searches are not the norm when someone is looking for something. People want to be able to find things quickly, as in, "I want it now".

And how many vapers look around for gear that's from the stone age of vaping, a few yes, but I don't think many based on the gear most folks post about.

Many of those folks, the old-timers if you will, have the photos on their computers, pads or phones and can recite the history, in great detail, from memory. Oh-oh, now management needs to purchase the Vulcan Mind Meld add-on for XF.
