I tried the magnets today and all the ones I tried fit in my two switches. But after looking at how the switch works, I realized that the spring actually helps complete the circuit. With the magnets, the button cap has to touch the inside wall of the button housing or the top of the housing to complete the circuit. It's fine if you don't mind putting side pressure when you depress the switch but I found it to be a pain and hit or miss. With the spring, current runs up the button axis to the button cap which is in contact with the top of the spring. The bottom of the spring is in contact with the bottom of the housing which of course is screwed into the body completing the circuit. The magnets create a gap in this connection.

My expierence with magnets was the same. They could be very touchy. The new brass button springs work so well I no longer use my magnets.

I tried back in the day, when I missed the sale of the magnet button switch upgrades, with magnets that I ordered from Gauss Boys Super Magnets. For some reason, with the old style switch on my SSGGTS, I could only fit two magnets and the button press was much too light my my tastes.

Since the talk of magnets came back up again I decided to try with the flat-top button that I install a while back. It took a few minutes to find enough that fit, but once I did I was able to get three magnets in there. I absolutely love it. Normally when I drive back and forth to work, my GG rolls around in the console of my truck and occasionally, because of how light the button press was with the spring, it would occasionally fire off. This setup, however, gives me a great stiff button press.

IMO I think that this will also help to keep the button top from unscrewing from the post so easily. With the spring I have to tighten it every couple of days.
