So I decided to upgrade my RDA/box mod today to something a bit more powerful. I bought the Realeaux RX200 mod with a Temple RDA. Now I wouldn't say I'm very good with these things I just use them to help me not smoke, so when I comes to builds and resistance I don't know a lot about it. The guys at my local shop are cool enough to replace my coils when my old ones go bad which is nice. Anyways, I got this thing today and when I hit it it chokes me so bad I can't smoke it. I have even tried turning my watts down to 40-50 (hoping that might help) but it doesn't. I press the button for .02 seconds and it's STILL choking me out. I don't know what is causing it. The juice is 3mg Sonic Boom, same thing I used in my other dripper, and the ohms are .31. I took a couple of pictures of the coils if it might help. I'm really hoping I didn't just spend all this money for it to be basically a total loss. And help would be GREATLY appreciated.

What power levels were you vaping at before?

What was your "favorite" setup on your other dripper?

Single, dual, or quad coils?

Wire gauge and coil type? (Normal micro coil, twisted, clapton, etc.)

And when you say it chokes you, do you just mean it's way too much vapor, or are you getting a burning/nasty taste in your vapor?

Aside from turning the power down even more, there are a few things that come to mind.

First, hot spots. If your coils have hot spots, there will be small areas of the wick that are getting heated up WAY more than the rest of the wick. You want the coils glowing nice and evenly.

Second, improper wicking. If there's not enough wick, there won't be enough e-liquid in the coil area, and the part being heated will dry out way too fast, sometimes a matter of seconds. Also, if there's too much wick in the coil, it will be choked off, so the e-liquid won't flow properly into the coil area, causing dry hits.

Third, air flow. You want enough air flow to keep the coils cool (relatively speaking).

Honestly, if you're not that comfortable at building, you should probably go back to the shop and explain your situation, they should be able to get things on the right track for you.

turned it "down" to 40-50W??? try 20-30W... what were you vaping at before you turned it down??
B&M people should realize that customers getting new hi power mods need low power coils to start with if the customer has never experienced hi power previously...

Sounds like you kicked the power up way too high and burned your cotton.

Gently pull out the wick and re wick. Lower the Watts yo under 20 watts and try again.

I like RTAs, and with the Kayfun Nano you can have the cotton burn at 15 wattdy and on the Orchid V3 with single coil the cotton will burn at 22 watts.

To use high wattages you need BIG airflow to cool the coils and the right amount of cotton so it wicks well enough to keep up with your vaping.

I am NOT picking on you but recently I have seen several new vspers that are going to get in big trouble and possibly hurt on a mech mod.

One got s mod that could fire all the way down to .15 ohms and was wanting s coil build that was .15 ohms. Not understanding that he needed to do the Ohms law math to see if his batteries could safely fire that low. Be could literally turn his batteries into a pipe bomb.

Three or four more haf gotten 200 watt mods and wanted coil builds so he could Fire it at the full 200 watts.

Whatever happened to people building to a satisfying vape and not worrying about using the full 200 watts.

I use a 60 watt mod and the number of times I have gone over 25 watts I can. Count on two hands

Sorry. Rant over I will go back to my den now.

You NAILED it! Well done!

The reason you get s 200 watt mod us NOT to vape it at the full 200 watts. But to build a satisfying vape and have your batteries last a LOOOOOOOOONG TIME.

Agree completely. The saying "Glowing from the inside out" is correct not hyperbole. A good coil should glow like the rising sun; starting in the center and enlarging until the coil is glowing evenly with no yellow areas or sparks.

Third, air flow. You want enough air flow to keep the coils cool (relatively speaking).

Agreed. If he isn't a competent builder hr needs to do one of the option's below.

1. Go back to a tank with premade coils and get his ego in check and stay in the recommended wattage range for the coils he is using.

2. Go back to cigarettes.

Vaping is safe if the Vaper used the sense God gave a goose. I forgot where thus person was but he was vaping a Sub Ohm on a Mech mod. The battery exploded shooting his tank across the room and sticking into the wall. If he had been taking a hit when it exploded he would have been seriously hurt or killed.

I don't like being the bad guy but we experienced vspers keep up the drum beat about battery safety and ohms law for a reason.

Yeah, +1 to the above. Not sure what you mean by "choking," but you'll probably like a build between .5 and .8 or so, and 20 to 30 watts, a lot better.

From your mouth to God's ears.

For me the sweet spot is .8-1 ohm and rarely ever go over 20 wstts. The highest I have ever gone was 40 watts with the Billow V2, and 32 watts on the Goblin Mini to see how warm was too warm.

As I said to the police officer that pulled me over for going 200 mph and asking me "WHY were you going 200 mph?!", I replied "Well you see officer the pedal only has 2 positions up and down...So if I don't press it down I can't drive anywhere!"

Wow. You guys are fast! Ok so my previous mod was an ipv mini with a Leiken dripper on it, and it would run at 70 watts and I would lung hit it with no problems whatsoever. I actually felt I needed a stronger mod so I could smoke it a litter hotter. So I bought this one.. And basically me doing the exact same thing on this one (in regards to hitting it like my other) it's like I'm hitting some sort of harsh smoke. But it doesn't taste harsh. It is just making me cough even when I turn the mod down to where I am barely even getting any vape. I'm not exactly sure what hot spots in the coils are, I'm about to go find a thread an read up on it to see if that could be the problem

It isn't an ego thing, tanks don't give me a satisfying hit quite like a dripper does. And if I'm going to be perfectly honest I didn't go buy a new one because I wanted more, I lost my other during a night of drinking the night before I bought a new one. I just thought I was upgrading it a bit

I couldn't get a picture to upload on this thread for some reason, other than file size, so I made it my avatar pic if any of you want to check it out. There's a lot of good info in here now and I'll check it all out. Also, yeah I don't know much about drippers to build my own and that's why I let the other guys do it but there's no better time than now to learn.

So with all of the posts above I have come to the conclusion that I wasn't getting enough air flow to cool my coils. I made sure all vents were open as this is a big dripper and has plenty of air flow, and I lung hit the .... out of it. No cough!

I'm guessing the smoke was too hot to smoke, which makes sense. I'm back to running it on 69W and she's working great. Thanks guys for all the responses and help.

FUNNY. will have to remember that one. Thank you for making me laugh

I hope it's not an ego thing. I havd seen so many newbies trying to vape at 200 watts or trying to go ultra low like .15 ohms without doing the ohms law calculation to see if their batteries can deal with resistance that low.

If I put you in the ..... category by mistake my apologies.

There are two other possibilities

1 melting the insulator
2. Machine oil on the deck or coil..

If you can't get a decent vape out of of a tank or RTAs you have bought the wrong ones.

There is the Aromamizer, Crius, Silverplay Nano, Goblin Mini all of them are better than several RDAs. I would rather Vape a GMini, Silverplay Nano, Orchid V3, than almost any RDA.

I have vaped just about everything but a Genesis Atomizer.

I think you will do much better when you start wrapping your own coils then you can build to the resistance you prefer.

Glad you found s wattage that works for you.

About my most recent post somehow part of another message was pasted in. Don't know how of why.

Sometimes I have problems getting the upload of images to work.

I'll second this a thousand times. Although I understand that building isn't for everyone, but if you learn the basics and work on your building skills, you'll be able to troubleshoot your own issues, at the very least.

Not that we don't want to help, we would rather see you succeed.

I LOVE to help other vapers bug if people

People learning to build then they don't have so many nasty surprises.

If they learn to DIY their ejuice they can stockpile a few things such as nic, flavors mods that use external batteries, some RDAs or RTAs.

Then when the GUTLESS POLITICIANS want to tax the hell out of Vaping we can laugh at them making the foolish regulations irrelevant.
