aye, so I prob could have gone looking through the forum and I apologise straight up as you'll prob have heard all these questions before :) (i lives in the you kay btw!)

am new to e-smoking, have ordered a dse103 from heaven_gifts (iirc) on ebay as the 103's supposed to be the better of the dse range (i think)

was fairly excited about the idea at first but looking through this forum has thrown up a lot of worries which i'd like to ask about

1.) safety first... am i "likely" to get a batch of toxic glycerol in my refills? this worries me as i'm putting something into my system that's come from some remote place in china and could contain absolutely anything. It's a strange feeling as I know at the moment i'm buying my fags from a "safe source" yet they're still chock-full of killer chemicals so I dunno why I'm worrying... just dont want to take one puff of this thing and drop dead

2.) price/reliability/reputation:

is it a case of "you get what you pay for" with these things? People seem to have mixed reviews about all of the products on offer - I for one am looking for the best "allround" experience from something that looks as close as possible to a real cig as I'd look a pratt standing around with a pen-shaped thing (even if it is better quality/refills last longer) so is the £30+shipping I paid for the dse103 going to mean it breaks in a week or so? Some people seem to say splash out and get something like a jenty/kissbox/gamucci while others seem to be happy with their cheaper ones

3.) the feeling

these things seem to be marketed as giving smokers the same "feeling" as a real cig but do they? I smoke about 10-15 marl lights a day and ordered the medium carts but will it not be obvious to me when i've had enough puffs to get a fix and do you not get that "buzz" you get from ordinary cigs? To follow on from that is it easy to "od" on the nicotine itself?

4.) ruyan

seems the amount of fake ruyans out there is immense... the bloke i got the dse103 from on ebay is selling the cigars and the disposeable cigars for £30/£17 which seems pretty underpriced for something i've heard's supposed to cost £50-£100 right so am guessing they're fake? Are the genuine ruyans the best e-cigs available at the mo?

seriously... sorry if i've wasted your time with these questions and i'd much appreciate if anyone would answer :)

Maybe the forum admin can tell us how many folks have "disappeared" from the board. :? ;)

Okay seriously, it would be difficult for those of us using ecigs to tell a newbie that THEY are likely to get toxic refills, while we keep ordering them ourselves. Your concern is understandable, you do see discussions of all issues here including that one. I wish these products weren't made in China and many others feel the same. But they are. At the moment it's the China risk vs. the ciggie risk, which we have accepted for the time being.

I've been surprised at how many folks here seem to agree that esmoking doesn't provide the ciggie experience. For me they absolutely do. I didn't have any problem replacing ciggies with ecigs nearly immediately. Some say that might change as time goes on. Perhaps it depends upon the particular ciggies smoked, or how they smoke, or just the story they tell themselves about esmoking. Absolutely you get the nicotine. If you smoke too much your stomach feels a bit queasy. Keep it up and you'll feel a headache coming on. When I can see that I'm chain smoking or I feel queasy I change to low or no-nic cartridge.

One difference is that I don't withdraw from nicotine very often. With cigs there is frequent withdrawal, especially with all the smoking bans. Since I'm not always withdrawing I don't necessarily feel the nic hit to the same degree. My nic level is more steady, I think. Maybe more like being on the patch.

Hey Johnny

Fellow newb, also in the 'You Kay'. I've bought stuff from around the world, but nothing directly from China, because the sages on here tell me that nothing's getting in or out because of the Olympics. To start you off, I'd buy from Pillbox38, a UK ebay seller that does starter kits at very good prices. He's quick to post stuff out and very responsive to any questions you might have.

This is the link to his store.

This guy sells the real ruyan on Ebay, I've read a review about this product, and they where very surprised he sells it at this price.
If you order keep in mind that it takes time to receive it, because it's shipped from China.

I have ordered cartridges from him, his customer service is excellent.

Hi, Jonny, and welcome to the board. Check this link, below, to see a good rundown on the mini-cigs. The 103 is the one with the arch of metal sticking out of the barrel, and the one piece cartridge. That's a design I've had good results with, BUT these things vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Well, there are other options. You could buy from freesmoke.com. They have theirs made in Spain. Or get cartridges from Janty at ruyanxpress.com. I don't know where theirs is made, probably China too, but it is noticably better quality than e-cig.com's, so I'd be inclined to be less worried about it.

Well, those are the two competing schools of thought. :D I got into a bit of a rant over this with one member in particular so I don't want to go into it much, except to note that while we do have one fierce advocate of buying cheap and throwing them away when they break, most of us have found that the more expensive brands are a better value in quality and in after purchase service.

I don't think it's exactly the same, but it is more similar than different. You still get the tactile feel of the cig between the fingers, but it's a bit heavier and more solid. You still take a drag and feel the smoke rolling down the throat, but it has a slightly different feel to it. The taste is definitely different, if you like plain tobacco flavor it can be a challenge. But personally I love all the possible flavors. As has been said, the nic fix is a bit different. You can definitely feel it, and you can OD, but mostly you find you don't concentrate your nicotine doses into occasional smoke breaks, instead you take a puff or two here and there throughout the day.

I really, really have no idea. I can't even say if they have a good rep. I have read only a couple reviews on them at all, unless you count the disposable cigar. That's a very good smoker, but I'm still undecided whether I think it's worth the price.

thanks for all the info :) much appreciated guys!

yeah, used the EMS express service from heavengifts to ship out the e-cig rather than the normal air mail service... both are delayed according to the seller due to the olympics but the service i used should only delay it by 2-3days which is acceptable :)

would have bought from pillbox but the mini-cigs are supposedly the dse101/102 i think (looking at the info from the minicigs on this forum) and as the dse103 was supposed to last a little longer i thought i'd just go for that one

...it's funny that this is pretty much the only english speaking forum dedicated to e-cigs, the technology has been around in china at least since like 2005 so why are they only just becoming mainstream? I do worry about the dangers but I'm not ready to stop getting my fix so it's either smoke normal death-cigs or take a chance with these

will stick around on here and post my experiences once the dse103 turns up anyway :)
