First post here

I'm new to vaping, interested in cloud chasing and got my first setup.kryptonite 454 block and magneto 2. Built my first coil config today, came out to be .23 ohms and it's hitting nice! I only did a dual coil setup however I would like to build a quad. Is there any better wire to use other than kenthal? I was thinking about using 26 guage for the quad setup, I used 24 guage for the dual. Would 28 be better? I noticed the 24 guage takes quite a long time to heat up.

Also I picked up two of these xtar batteries from battery junction. I couldn't find any sony vtc5's in stock anywhere that was a reasonable price, so I took the risk on these.

I got them delivered today and glad to say these are legit sony vtc5's!

There are a few things you ought to learn before you chase clouds. Battery safety is top of that list. followed by Ohms law, so you can be sure to stay within the safe limits of your battery's capabilities and some testing equipment like a DMM or Ohmmeter, so you can identify any faults in your builds before you fire them.

This is a bare minimum. I suggest you search for and read Baditude's battery blogs. There is nothing a quad coil will give you that dual cannot.

You're not gaining my confidence in your knowledge of batteries. There's no way that the batteries that you got from Battery Junction are "legit Sony VTC5". Xtar is re-wrapping only Sony VTC4's. When it comes to sub-ohm building, the brand and model numbers and battery specifications of batteries becomes extremely important. Your confusion about the Xtar batteries exposed your noobness.

Listen, I have no idea how much research you've done to this point. But sub-ohm vaping can be extremely dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. One must know about Ohm's Law calculations, which batteries are safe to use to a certain resistance coil, etc, etc. Novices always want to start right off with a sub 0.3 ohm coil build or something exotic like a quad. Forget about it until you gain some experience. You can get just as much vapor with a dual coil as a quad coil. Why complicate issues until you have gained more knowlege and experience.

There's seventeen blogs in the following link, many that should be of interest to you concerning mechanical mods, battery knowledge, ohm's law calculations, and rebuildable atomizers. Read them and research. Stay simple with your builds for the time being. Keep resistances above 0.8 ohms for your first couple of builds. Learn to crawl before you walk, learn to walk before you run. And always keep SAFETY as your number one priority.

CLOUD CHASING IS DANGEROUS

And BTW, the 24 gauge wire will take longer to heat up than the 26 gauge.

Better wire: nichrome 80 in my opinion, but it's different from kanthal so be careful, especially at first. I don't know about quad coils, big enough pain in the ... to get dual coils working good consistently. Definitely use higher gauge wire though. I'd work on wicking and airflow before trying to build quads, to be honest. Good airflow and wicking will do a lot more for you than more coils will.

But not if he uses a quad coil as he wishes.

Look, i'm all for sub-Ohm vaping and i do it all the time and i use different wire for different builds and so on; what i'm saying and others are too is to understand how and why things work as they do. If you learn fast - it'll take you 2 days to know all this stuff. If you're stubborn like me then a bit longer.

If you swap kanthal for nichrome it's like dropping down a gauge, so you had better know how to measure coils before you begin. None of this is obvious and nor do places that sell the gear go out of their way to instruct people on it (if they even know themselves).

If you look at the posters in this thread, some are highly regarded members and experts by now in these matters (i exclude myself), that have in common a desire for every vaper to get the best vape they can in a safe manner.

I am not allowed to postl links on this site yet, however if you google "VTC5 XTAR" the link to the battery will come up. There is also a thread on this forum that discusses the branded VTC5's from battery junction.

I received mine in the mail today and they have the correct markings for the VTC5. I understand I just started out in this hobby, but I think you need to do some research and maybe see one for yourself before you call someone out.

I understand electricity, and yes I understand Ohm's law. .23ohms on a VTC5 or even a VTC4 (as you seem to think I have) is pulling way below the safe discharge amp range.

What color are the batteries you received

I will do some research on nichrome. The 24 guage was a little difficult to build with however the 26 guage kenthal wasn't too difficult to bend. Is nichrome easier to work with over kenthal?

I do have an ohm reader that i bought from 101vape and it's reading is within about .01-.02 ohms of my fluke multi meter so I am very pleased.

Green

If I get to 5 posts I can take a picture and post it haha.

Xtar batteries are not green, however there are a lot of fake VTC5's that are. If I were you I would be highly suspicious and do some checking before assuming they are legit. VTC5's are out of stock everywhere and any find would be suspect. There are a few ways to check authenticity and it would be in your best interest to do so.

619 - the issue here is not your batteries - you can have the best battery mankind made and still be in danger. You really do need to get the equipment and knowledge you need to pursue this safely; both are inexpensive.

Even if you have VTC4's, they are well up to the job - but you didn't know that. <~~~~~that's the thing.

Be safe.
