Like most of my threads, this one will die a quick and quiet death....

Still reading (mostly blogs at this point) and taking notes. Not even close to first order yet. But I keep coming across comments how one flavor "has a cooling effect"
where another flavor "Makes it thicker"
???????????

Maybe some of you experienced DIY'ers could give me a few notes on which flavors will have certain 'effects' on the mix ?

(back to reading now....)

The only "flavor" I know that has a cooling effect is Koolada. Its not menthol and has no flavor but it's what gives you that cold throat/mouth feeling. I've seen people use it in drink recipes to simulate that "ice cube" or cold drink sensation.

As far an ingredient to make it "feel" thicker I've heard .09 (I think or .9 you can buy it at the pharmacy or make your own, I made my own) saline solution added to your mix will give you the thicker mouth feel that they talk about. As far as why it does that I couldn't tell you.

I know more experienced DIYers here would come up with more but these are the ones I know of.

OK, so I am copying recipes off of blogs that I might (someday) try, and in Bill's Milkshake Base there is 1% Koolada listed in the ingredients. This is to make it 'feel' like a cold milkshake ? Did I get that right ?
If so, Koolada sounds like a must for milkshake recipes.

Yeah it'll give you that cold feeling in your mouth and throat.

Koolata is a methol effect without the menthol taste. It is a tasteless additive that adds that cold mouth effect much like a mint but without the minty taste.
For more information on additives read my blog on sweetening and additives. Then take a look at the rest of my blogs. There's some really helpful info there.

I've read that, and even took notes on your suggestions on Vinegar, Lemon Juice, EM, DW and Sucarlose. I guess I've been reading so much and taking so many notes last night it all became a blur. Still very good advice, Thanks Danny :thumb:

EDIT; also wrote down your advice on 'Drop Method', over flavoring, start-up supplies, and seed steeping. Keep those pearls of wisdom coming !
