Hi, I want to start mixing my own liquid. Mostly because I want an unflavored day in day out vape but I do think every now and then I might want to have a flavor I control. I plan on mixing an unflavored liquid(base) to 50/50/6mg. This much I am confident in doing.
My questions start at adding a flavor to my base. The calculators I've seen give you a recipe starting from scratch or maybe I haven't figure out how to put the numbers in using a premade base.
OK, Let's say I want to make 10ml of flavored liquid with my premade base. And let's say I know I want to use a flavor/flavors at 8%.
I would...
Measure out 9.2ml of base(50/50/6mg) (92%)
Add .8ml of flavor(PG) (8%)
or
Measure out 9.2ml of base(50/50/6mg) (92%)
Add .5ml of flavor(PG) (5%)
Add .3ml of flavor(PG) (3%)

So adding this flavor to my base will lower my nic% and VG%, right? Will it even be noticeable in the small amounts I will be adding flavor to?
Would this be the best way to add flavor to a base?

Thanks,

Is your "premade base" close to your target level or is it something you need to dilute?

If your base is at the strength you intend to vape, then just enter 0 (i.e. zero) as the "Target Nicotine Level", and use your base as if it were straight VG/PG. Of course your base strength will be slightly diluted by flavor(s) but generally not of great significant for personal consumption.

OTH, if your base is 18mg/ml and you want to vape at 12mg/ml, you'll need to enter these values as Base and Target Nicotine Level. And you will need additional VG/PG to dilute your base.

I don't like installable software so I use this web-based calculator, DIY Simple E-Liquid (E-Juice) Recipe Calculator

This will work. It will lower your nicotine down to about 5.5.

You can use a liquid calculator for that, but the math is pretty easy to do with just a regular calculator.

If you have 9.2 ml of 6 mg/ml then you have 9.2ml * 6mg/ml = 55.2 mg of nicotine all together. Then if you add .8 ml of flavors you now have 55.2 mg of nicotine in 10 ml, so 55.2mg/10ml = 5.52 mg/ml.

So you can seem even if you test a couple of drops and decide that 8% flavor isn't enough and want to add some more! you'd just divide total nicotine (55.2 mg) by the new volume of juice to get the new nicotine volume.

Thanks for the replies.

My "premade base" is going to be my unflavored vape liquid. I wanted to add flavors to it whenever I wanted to have/try/test flavors. It will be made from diluting down 24mg PG nic liquid.

Putting a 0 in the nic target box solved my issue with the calculators. I was putting a 6 in the nic liquid box and a 6 in the target box and it was giving me negative numbers in my recipe.

Here is my easy way:

20 drops of base (50/50-1.2%)

19 drops base and 1 drop flavoring = 5%
18 drops base and 2 drops flavoring = 10%
17 drops base and 3 drops flavoring = 15%

Use the same size drops of base and flavorings.

Double the starting amount to adjust the percentages
(39 drops base and 1 drop flavoring = 2.5%)

YMMV...
