I have never tried e-cigs nor have I purchased one yet, however I would really like to get one and get away from analog cigs. I was looking into Blu but after doing some research, I'm not sure Blu is for me. I would really appreciate any opinions or personal experiences about which e-cig would be best for a beginner like me.

All I can tell you is what worked for me. eGo-C 650 mah or 1100 mah battery and Kanger T3 clearomizer and juice to suit. I tried cig look-a-likes a couple of years ago and it didn't work for me, too fiddly. 4 months ago I tried, on the recommendation of a coworker, the above combination. Immediately off cigs and haven't looked back.

my recommendation is to (if possible) find and visit an ecig shop. i work at one in minnesota and deal with new customers all the time, from my exp alot have never seen ego style batteries and think those cig-a-likes are the only ones out there. at the shop i work at we have customers try various ecigs and explain things like voltage ohms pg/vg and ive learned its easier to understand in person.

I guess it depends on what you want. For me (a fellow newbie) it's portability and discreetness. I got a KR808D-1 (a cig-alike, like the Blu) with pre-filled cartridges. It works well for me, but I didn't like the flavors of the cartos I got so I have been refilling them with a juice that I like from a local shop.

I'm using a Vapor4Life Vapor King automatic battery which does the trick. I vape casually so one battery is enough to last me all day. I'm sure all the KR808D-1 batteries are similar though, so if your needs match mine then give it a shot and good luck!

Think you are wise to think about something better than the Blu. The Blu is underpowered and the short battery life gets old quicker than you think initially. For me, I had to get a couple of powerful batteries and some good strong juice (24 mg/ml), and only then did was I able to power through the cravings. The gear available in both 2009 and 2011 wasn't strong enough for me, so I had to wait four years, until 2013 before vaping would work for me. The cigalikes in 2009, and the underpowered batteries in 2011, just weren't enough. Also, your starting kit often becomes your backup and out and about kit down the line, when the mods/APV's start to look attractive. This vaping stuff grows on you, particularly if you get better gear that allows you to really enjoy it. Anyway, what you may want to look at are the ego/stick type battery setups. Here's my :2c::

Stick Batteries, known as eGo Style Batteries (entry level, backup, out and about, stealth, primary):

Trusted Vendors shown, but NOT selected based on pricing, you'll still need to shop around. You will need device specific battery chargers (which often come in kits) for these devices. Also, kits often provide two batteries allowing for simultaneous vaping while charging of the backup. Each of the eGo style batteries below have both 510 and eGo thread connections. As such, they are compatible with most toppers, including most Kanger products. Additionally, each of these devices has at least variable voltage, which allows you to adjust and regulate the battery output voltage, providing customizable vapor production, temperature, throat hit, and finding the "sweet spot" for your juices to suit your individual vaping preferences:

1. Innokin iTaste 3.0 vv/vw, usb passthrough, ohms reader, etc. - https://ivape.net/index.php/iTaste-VV-3.0-Variable-Wattage-Device-Pearl-Chrome.html (variable power, LCD display, +/- buttons, Usb passthrough, 3.3 - 5.0 volts, 6.0 - 11.0 watts, 800mAh)
2. SLB KGO VV - http://www.hoosierecig.com/Mega-KGO-VV-1200mAh-3-6v-_p_441.html (LCD display, +/- buttons, Usb passthrough, 3.0 - 6.0 volts, 650 - 1200mAh)
3. Vision Spinner - Vision Spinner VV eGo Battery 1300mAh (3.3 - 4.8 volts, 1300mAh)
4. Joyetech Twist - eGo Twist 1000 Mah Battery in Black (3.2 - 4.8 volts, 650 - 1000mAh)
5. Smoktech Winder - Smok eGo Winder 900mAh Variable Volt Battery (3.2 - 4.8 volts, 900 - 1100mAh)

Best Starter Combo kit out there, imho, provides two batteries, i.e., the twist and/or spinner, and two toppers, i.e., the eVod and/or MT3s, among others: http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm.

Recommend one eVod and one MT3s topper with one Spinner and one Twist to start. This way you get four different products with the kit and allowing you to experience four different setups, as you figure out your preferences and what works best for you. BTW, you can spend less and get a fixed voltage battery, but you'll have much less vape flexibility and it won't be long before you'll want to upgrade to variable voltage, more than likely, and the difference initially is only a few dollars per battery anyway.

Good luck, keep posting, happy shopping and Vape On!

Lots of good advice here but, personally, I recommend first trying one beit Blu or NJoy or some other brand. The retail store versions have limitations like price, etc. But you can at least get a sense of the experience. There's a huge variety of equipment and flavors; you'll need to do some research to find what works for you. That first step, however, is to see if any of it has appeal. If that first trial seems OK but not _quite_ it, believe me it's worth looking harder inito it. The main thing is to not throw a lot of money at it until you know a little more about it.

These days, I think the Spinner/Twist Combo kit put together by My Vapor Store is pretty close to the ideal "starter". It's the kind of set up I ended up with after going through a Blu and one other. Neither of which worked out all that great. Doesn't have to be that kit or that vendor but that's the general idea. Spinners and Twists are good batteries. Pretty long life between charges (I get 6 to 7 hours off a charge with my Twists). Basic variable voltage (you can adjust the warmth of the vapor, which can affect the taste of the liquids). Easy to use and maintain. "Clearomizers" are pretty simple. You squirt the juice in, screw on the battery, and off you go. :)

I had Blu and found out why very, very few people stick with them. They're overpriced for what they are and their batteries just don't last. The ones that try to imitate cigarettes (the infamous "cig-a-like") just can't last. They're too small. The Twists and Spinners are bigger, better capacity but not hulking. People think it's a pen in my pocket. Maybe Sharpie size.

Definitely the eGo style. Tons of options out there for eGo. You don't get stuck with any single vendor.

I too initially mistakenly purchased a "blu-like" analog style of ecig kit - and was bitterly disappointed. Naturally I was not able to kick the analogs. I got some great advice from people here and on other forums and ordered myself an Ego Twist 650 kit with some clearos and an eRoll kit for "going out and about".

I was a diehard menthol junkie too so got myself some Halo Mystic and Subzero and have not had a "stinky" since! It has been about 4 months now and I have developed a vape gear addiction so have added a Smoktech SID and a new Innokin SVD to my arsenal - lol. Variable voltage/wattage in a more powerful device makes a huge difference! Best of luck to you kicking the analog habit for good! :)

Welcome from an ex-Minnesotan! My experience with blu e-cigs was not good. But is was one of those disposables you buy at a drug store. Tasted like dirt. YMMV though. :)

(btw - billbeckusa, being a huge LOTR fan, I love your signature!)

Thanks. Been a fan for about 50 years myself! Enjoy your posts by the way.

I would have to agree with one of the posters above who recommended getting a Blu or Njoy to see if its going to work for you. You can buy a tobacco flavored disposable for under $10 and see if it has any appeal. The experiences I have had with others have shown me that if a person is not motivated to drop the actual cigs, nothing else is going to suffice. I struggled along with Blu disposables for a month before I started looking for something better. That said, I would also add that you should not judge the overall vaping experience based on Blu disposables, as there is a whole world out there of wonderfully flavored, completely satisfying vaping gear. I'm almost to 3 months cig free after 38 years of smoking, and I'm not missing cigs at all. Good luck:)

Count me as a big proponent of the Ego - got some of the cigalikes like a Blu a couple years ago and it just didn't cut it for me...picked up an Ego and it's great. I haven't dabbled with variable voltage or anything, the standard batteries work and I've just stocked up on those and clearomizers so I always have a charged backup and a few different juices ready to go...if you can pop for two twists, go for it, if not I'd recommend a cheaper Ego kit but doubling up on materials...as always, your mileage may vary.

not sure if I'm allowed to say this but the company I work for has vaporizer starter kits in different colors for $30.00 Vape Royalty comes with everything you need aside from eliquid. Even has a carrying case. They're also 1100mAh which will last you all day. When I got my first kit I got a 650mAh thinking it would be fine. It died really quick. Not good if you're trying to quit smoking or if you don't want or don't have the ability to recharge your vaporizer throughout the day. Unless you work for an e-cig company, not to cool to charge your e-cig on your desk at work haha

As far as juices/ eLiquid I personally like Money Cream for eLiquid as well as Creamella D'Ville. When I first started smoking myself I wanted something that was closer tasting to my cigarettes I used to smoke. Took me a while to like different flavors. I also think the fruit flavors remind me of Hookah too much but a lot of people buy them so I guess it all depends on what you like.

Not trying to sell anyone anything. More just trying to help. When I first wanted to quit smoking I paid a ton of money in a vape store because I didn't know any better.
