New to E-Cigs, to assemble or to buy a starter kit?

Hi, I'm brand new to the E-Cig world. I've basically started my research about 3 days ago, going from being set on a V2, to being set on a Volcano Inferno, to deciding that I can probably get the best quality (and most open source) product for my budget by assembling or "building" my own from pre-assembled parts, with an Ego Twist battery being the base(seems popular). The thing I'm trying to figure out is how simple or advanced the process of assembling your own E-Cig would be, if I should even go that route straight away. First off, I'm wondering whether I should take the leap into that seemingly more advanced chapter of "building" E-Cigs right away or just buy something like an Inferno or joyetech Ego starter kit and spend some time on those before delving deeper. If anyone could point me towards other threads or tutorials about assembling your own E-Cigs based on Ego Twist batteries or something similar, or just giving me their opinion on how far of a plunge I should take right away, I would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot!

If you are using e-cigs to quit smoking I'd recommend getting a starter kit (Twists or Spinners are good). The kits have everything you need to get started. And will hold you off of the stinkies while you dive into the rest of it.

Now as to DIY. I was on Mad Vapes the other day looking at their DIY section. from the looks of it they pretty much have everything to build your own mod. Madvapes - Electronic Cigarettes, E Cigarettes, E-Cigs
And I do mean build your own from ground up. :)

Then there is DIY eliquids. Wizard Labs is only one place to get what you need to make your own eliquid. I'm sure others will show you other places. Wizard Labs

Like I said, if you are quitting smoking then get that process started. Then tinker. :)

Good luck!

Oh please note: this would be considered on the extreme end of e-cigs. There is nothing wrong with just buying a device (two or more is best) a few delivery devices (tanks, cartomizers, clearomizers) and prepared eliquid. Most people do this. :) I'm a geek, I'm going to tinker with it all eventually.

Thank you very much Dakota Jim and BostLabs! I'll check out the Dv Ego Twist Starter kit (and the Kangers parts), right of the bat it seems to be a really good deal. And to BostLabs, I've been checking out Madvapes and CloudsofVapor, I seem to be able to find most of the necessary parts (Battery, Carto, Tank) and such but here are my questions. How do I know what works together and what does not? Generally, I mean, that's probably a very broad question. And my other question would be, do these parts just screw together like purchasable kits or do they require some tinkering and modding to make them work? I've been trying to find some picture or video tutorials to give me a basic idea on how the actual assembling process goes down, but I think I'm using the wrong keywords and terms like I previously stated. And I suppose I am hoping to use this quit cigs, but really just to transition in to being a vaper instead. Anyway, thanks for all the info!

Oh and thanks to everyone for welcoming me, seems like a really friendly forum!:) I think i'll enjoy my stay here!:D

Welcome to the boards! I agree with the others (Dakota links a great kit). You may be able to save a couple dollars piecing your own kit together, but I don't know that it would be that big of difference overall in cost. I am a big fan of the Ego Twist batteries... very popular indeed, as you mention. LOVE the EVOD clearomizers as well. The Vision Spinner and Smoktech Winder are two other "twist" style batteries that are essentially the same, just made by other companies (equal quality imo).

Good luck and I'll see you around...

With the ego style batteries you are looking for ego or 510 threading patterns on the tanks and clearomizers. After that it's all trial and error until you find one that just works for you. Everyone will have varying opinions based on what they have tried but in the end it's about finding the setup that makes you inhale a tasty cloud, exhale, and smile afterwards thinking, "Yup, this will work nicely"

Below I linked a video review on an Ego Twist. He goes over some different attachments so you can get a feel for what your options are (they are plentiful). As mentioned above, you can attach any 510 or Ego threaded device, which are the main styles you will find. You would want to avoid 306 or 810 threaded. Though even those can be used with an adapter.

Thanks for all the tips and links guys, checking it all out now. I've been putting more thought into assembling my own, and selecting what I'm pretty sure are parts that will all work together well. I realized there's a 15% off sale ending tonight at Madvapes and figured I should try to take advantage of that. So I've selected a Smok Ego Winder 900 MaH battery (Says it is basically a Twist, with slight improvements for reliability), Artemis Slim 2.5ml 510 DCT Cartomizer/Tank, some extra 2.5 ml 1.5 ohm Dual Coil Cartomizers, and a cool Skull drip tip:D. I'm really starting to understand what each part is and the difference between some of them. Now to look into E-Liquids, I doubt i'd try making my own yet but maybe someday!

personally I like Mt Baker Vapor - Electronic Cigarettes, USA made E Juice, and Accessories for juices. I've tried others and there's definitely some tastier at higher prices but price and customer service/shipping times has always been top notch and hard to beat along with a huge selection of flavors. I'm sure some others will chime in with sites they use for juice as well lol

Well I ended up purchasing what I said I was going to, I think it'll be a pretty sick setup. REALLY wanted to buy a Kanger Protank, but didn't have the chance to this time. Was going to pick one up on MtBakerVapor along with some E-Juice but realized it was out of stock. For now I just bought some Juice on Madvapes, which seems to have mixed reviews, but I figured it was worth the shot since I was already buying everything else I needed on there. I got Ultamint (Supposed to taste like Menthol, their actual Menthol got pretty poor reviews so I decided to skip it) and Green Apple (Hoping it's a sour Green Apple, seemed to get good reviews all around).

When i first started vaping i was using the standard eGo-t starter kit with my wife. then about a month ago i decided to take the leap and get a VAMO mod and 2 DCT ( dual coil tank) while my wife is still using the standard eGo kit with the DCT. Good luck with the begining of vaping. this is a real good set of people in this forum and everyone is very helpful and don't treat anyone like they are dumb, we have all been there at one point with being new.
