Hey all,

I know everyone was where I am at once with regard to e-cigs. I'd first like to introduce myself and say I've done a good amount of research and have made the leap towards e-smoking. I purchased my first starter kit just the other day and am waiting for it to arrive. I am excited about no longer being a prisoner to Phillip Morris or CT's ridiculous sin taxes on cigarettes which are now nearly 8 bucks a pack.

The starter kit I purchased is from Green Smoke. After a decent amount of research, it seems as though they are one of the better companies around at this time. So I figured I'd take the leap and try them given the fact that the two-pice design is pretty attractive, although it does cost slightly more. I have also noticed that many people choose the DSE versions as well, so I was curious as to why people choose this type.

I understand people have their own opinions on which companies/models are superior, but maybe some of you experienced members can help me understand which types are superior to others. I am definitely open to suggestions as to other reputable companies to try. So if some of you could assist a newbie, that would be appreciated.

Well anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. I'm looking forward to perusing the forums and continuing to educate myself on this revolutionary subject... Thankfully, my conventional cigarette smoking days are limited. I can't wait to start e-smoking as soon as my package arrives.

Hi Gibson, and welcome to ECF.

Im afraid I cant comment on Green Smoke, as I have never heard of them.

Now you are a member here, I suggest you read as much as possible of the information intended for new vapers, and very important, watch the videos..

A video can teach you more than I could by typing a thousand words.

There are quite a few in the reviews section, and several about the DSE901 or Joye510 which are the frequent choices of ecig to new vapers.

So pull up a chair, and get reading and watching........and shout up if you have any questions.

Good Luck

Your lucker than I was. I didn't find this forum until I had purchased an ecig. Got a Nipro. Then I found the forum and read, read, read. After that I ordered 510,s and was competely satified but then I found the Little Chuck. This has to be the ultimate in vaping. It is by far superior to the 510.

Welcome to the forum and good luck.

Welcome, from newcomer to newcomer.

The Illustrated Guide to E-cigs should be required reading for everyone. I know it seems to go forever but skim through it and concentrate on the description of particular models.

There are also two threads on the reviews section regarding bad and good experiences with suppliers respectively.

Well, I was in your shoes just about 11 days ago. 36+ years 1 to 2 packs a day, a friend mentioned an e-cig he got from SmokeTip.com and I got one. It arrived in the mail at 11:30 a.m. on a Wednesday as I stood at my mailbox smoking what I hoped would be my last cigarette. Took my kit in the house, put it together and vaped for the very first time and it put a genuine smile on my face. The very next thing I did was grab my last pack of analogs (USA Gold Ultra Light 100's) and put them in a kitchen drawer with my disposable lighter, and I even stuck my last finished .... in the box too as a momento. I haven't touched them since..

I'm only guessing, but I think you are going to be getting the KR808D-1 model which is a 2-piece unit - battery and a cartomizer which has the atomizer and the e-juice cartridge both in one. It is the same one I got (the KR) but just a different company). Start doing some searching here and on Youtube and you'll find tons of information about the KR808D-1, how to refill the throwaway cartomizers, etc.

There is a learning curve to vaping. It's about the weight of a AA battery so keeping it hanging in your lips is not happening easily, you'll have to bite on it - no big deal. It does not taste exactly like a cigarette however you will get a taste just like tobacco with the starter cartos. A good tip is to put it in your mouth and put one of your fingers directly in front of the other end (the LED end) so that when you vape you can see the LED reflect off of your finger. (This is of course if your model comes with the automatic battery). The idea and secret is to puff on your e-cig only with enough draw to light the LED and no more. I take about a 2-second light vape to get the atty warmed up, then quickly vape for about 4-5 seconds, again just enough to light up the LED. You will/should get the hit in your throat and once you inhale, you'll feel that too. It may cause you to gasp or cough but that is normal until you learn to vape just right.

On a new cartomizer it will take a few vapes to "break in" and get the best hit and vape your particular e-cig can give you. Then it will weaken some, remain constant then eventually you'll take a vape which will start to taste "burnt" and it's time to replace or refill your carto. I quickly learned how to refill my own and trust me when I tell you that it is incredible the amount of flavors you can get in different strengths that will blow your socks off. Personally I am currently hooked on RY4 which is a light tobacco flavor with a hint of caramel and vanilla.

A week into it and after hours upon hours reading the forums here at ECF, I took the plunge and ordered a new Joye 510 with accessories (PCC/Passthru, etc.) from cignot.com and yesterday I found my niche, the most amazing vaping experience with my new 510. I really am in vaping heaven!

The best advise anyone can give you is to realize right up front that it isn't that much different than a regular smoking experience but then again it is different. No smoke, no cancer, no ashes, no butts, no ashtrays, no lighters, so more smell, no more dirty ceilings, drapes, clothes, furniture, car/truck interior, etc. and the best thing of all is that technically it falls under no tobacco laws at all so you really can vape it anywhere. However, if a store/bar/restaurant owner complains or says something, just take the time to explain your unit to him/her and educate them. Whatever you do, don't tell them it is your "e-cig", but your PV (Personal Vaporizer) that got you off of those nasty analogs.

If your really want to quit smoking, you really can after your very first vape. I think that 90% of it is re-training your brain to accept what you now do (vaping) as what you used to do (smoke). Just take your first vape and put the analogs away.

Damn! I just realized I was up on a soap box! Sorry!

Good Luck!!!

    Somewhere between here and there
I agree with NYC. Read as much as you can. Everyone here has there favorite pv's and suppliers. If it is the KR808 that you are getting, I have heard some good things about those but have not tried them. If it is the 808, then I would suggest taking a look at Nhaler and they also have a forum here. Their liquids are some of the best I have tried and they will soon be having the cartomizers for that unit filled with Nhaler liquid as they have made an agreement with greencig. Also I have read that you can refill those yourself if you want to. I am sure there is an instructional on here somewhere. Good luck to you. There are alot of great people on this forum that are quick to help others. I am glad I found it.

Thank you all for the kind words. I'm definitely excited about starting and through reading the forums, I'm definitely thinking about ordering another starter kit of either the 510 or the 901. I'm currently torn between those two, but it seems more realistic to have a couple different units for various occasions. Not to mention the incredible amounts of liquid that there is out there. All this information is absolutely mind-boggling for me right now.

I know at some point I will be seasoned with this and will find out what works best for me. I'm sure there will be a good amount of trial and error, but that's the fun of it. I'm happy that my initial research on the subject was sound enough to make an informed decision. Leaford, in one of his vids rated the two-piece cartomizer style by green smoke and various other companies as his favorite. So that makes me feel better. However, I am still going to differentiate the subtleties between the 510 and the 801/901 and figure out which one will suit me best.

... now the tougher decisions start... What kind of fluid to get and what other model to buy... This is starting to become expensive lol

I agree with your thoughts on this and even though I am still a real newbie at it, I've learned quickly that it is a heck of a lot cheaper than smoking.

Here's what I've tried so far, I've gone to my local Walmart and purchased a 6oz (177ml) bottle of HUMCO Glycerine USP. I've also bought a few 10ml samples (at $4.95 each) of Strawberry, Cherry, RY4 and Fruit Mix and found the RY4 the best. I used about half that bottle (RY4) then added another 1/4 amount of the Glycerine which reduced the nicotine to about 12mg and really increased the vapor.

All in all I guestimate that it's now costing me about $.25 per day to vape instead of $7.00 per day for analogs. The initial investment is a little high, but pays for itself in no time at all.

So just an update from the noob... I'm still waiting for my Green Smoke to arrive, but I went on a little spending spree and ended up buying a DSE-901 and a JOYE 510 with some fluid and extra atomizers. So now I'm waiting on about 4 packages to arrive from various suppliers... This waiting is torture, but I know it'll pay off in the long run. As soon as I get them, I'll attempt to join the likes of many video reviewers and share my thoughts on these after using them for a little while. Thanks for all the support! I don't even want to know how many hours in total I spent researching these things already

.. Boy am I excited though!

    Until the next time,

So I have some good news! I actually received all 3 of my e-cigs yesterday and have been using each of them consistently since I got them. I can honestly say that I am not disappointed in any of them. I had ordered the Green Smoke, 510 and 901. Like people said, the Green Smoke is a vapor monster! The flavor is practically nonexistent, but man does this thing vape.

The 901 delivers the craziest throat hit of the 3. Pretty much every time I vape with it, I cough lol. However, the vapor is merely marginal compared to the Green Smoke. Lastly, the 510 is definitely my favorite of the 3 given the fact it encompasses the flavor that the Green Smoke is lacking, and the vapor the 901 is missing as well.

Needless to say, I love them all in their own ways. Usually everywhere I go, I take all 3 anyway, so that way I never have to worry running out of fluid or battery or an atty dying. Obviously, it's only been a day, but I'm happy with my investment thus far.

At some point, I'll have to get an 801 and a hybrid to see how those compare as well.

This site has been a great source of information so far, and I know it'll continue to serve me well in the future.

    Until the next time,

    ~Gibs
