New to ECF and e-cigs

Good afternoon, All!!

I've been actively reading the wealth of information on ECF and am a bit overwhelmed. Happily, of course, but overwhelmed nonetheless. Thanks!!

I was given a 510 kit this past summer as I was tossing around the idea of quitting smoking. (I've been smoking since I was about 15 and am now 38.) I messed around with it but wasn't fully happy with the experience. I guess I just didn't give it enough time.

For the first time, I actually made a New Year's resolution: to quit smoking analogs and use the e-cig. I bought a Riva kit from a couple here in town and was having a bit of trouble getting used to all the flavors of juice. (I smoked Newports for about 10 years then switched to Marlboro Smooths.) Thankfully, the same couple here in town turned me on to a Cinnamint juice that they make. It quite literally kept me on the e-cig. :)

I was just wondering if anybody else who has recently begun using the e-cig still finds it difficult to not grab a pack of analogs once in a while. I've caved to my cravings and have bought 4 packs of cigarettes since the first of this month and, although I felt guilty about it, I still smoked each pack within 24 hours of buying it. Does anybody have any advice that they'd be willing to pass along that would help me with my willpower??

Thanks!!

Nope, once I tried e-cigs I no longer had any desire to smoke an analog again. This was amazing to me cause I smoked almost 40 years and tried every method to stop smoking and nothing else work, of course I am now addicted to e-cigs, but that's Ok cause I can just reduce my nic content and keep on vaping!

Hi Leann,

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I guess I'm just weak-willed. I am really trying this time but still have my weak moments. Reading posts on ECF has really been helping, though, as I was "this close" to buying a pack of analogs yesterday. Maybe switching up juices will help. Any suggestions?

It comes faster for some people... not as fast for others. I say not to beat yourself up over any analogs you smoke for a while. Success in small doses is still success.

I would say that you might want to start ordering some different flavors and in different strengths. It can take a bunch of toying around to find what works for you. What are you currently using in the way of juice strength?

Tara....many have had the same experience as you. I smoked for the first 2 weeks of
vaping and I just kinda kept tappering myself off the analogs. When I ran out of the last pack,
I decided I was going to try and just vape. I did not know how it would really work. But it did.
I have not had any major desire to go back. At first I did miss the "morning one" and the
"after meal one" and I guess those were the hardest. Those were the last
ones I hung onto before I made the total switch.

Now the next thing we need to know to kinda help you, is are you using cartomizers, atomizers
and what strength of nic juice are you using. This can also be a big factor in helping you not
need or want the analogs as much. I started out with a 24 and a 36 juice.
The 36 was my first one for the day and then during the day I did 24mg. I stayed that way for
about 45 days. Nowdays, I do 24 for the morning and 18 thru out the day.
I also on occasion, when the need arises (stress, etc) I will vape me a 36 strength and it levels me out.

We all have weak moments. It is ok. Just keep working at it. Do your analogs in the early
morning, vape after that and then perhaps after lunch a analog and vape after that.
Just keep tappering down.

And yes, I love cinnamon mixed in with a tobacco juice. Great!
Glad to have you and let us know how we can help some more!

My husband had a hard time emotionally parting with cigarettes, but when he made up his mind, he quit with no problem. But we both admit to triggers that make us think "Hey, I want a cigarette." Just keep giving it a try, and I bet one day you will have a cigarette & think ecigs taste better! Also, why don't you try a menthol flavor & see if that helps.

Thanks, Player! I'm actually using the Cinnamint flavor and really enjoy it. I'm glad to read that I'm not the only person that has had some struggle.

Chaldeman, I totally understand!! I think at some point I'd like to quit the nicotine all together but not today. Haha.

Does anybody have any suggestions of different flavors of juice? What about the coffee flavors?

All of us can tell you what juice "we love", but it truly will not matter to you.
Taste and vaping is one of those things that YOU will have to decide. At first,
I read where some stated this is the best juice flavor on the planet.
I got it and hated it!. To make this whole experience a little better for you, you
need to order a few flavors in small bottles from different vendors. You too, will like
some and not like some.
I now mix about 3 flavors together and get that "perfect" one.
No one juice does it for me alone.
I was a menthol smoker for 35 years and do not like the menthols out there....but many do.
See...it's all up to us individually to find out what we like.
There are several good juice vendors and many have special's for ECF'ers.
I use Pure Smoker....Johnson's Creek...Backwoods Brew....and several more.
I love to use cinnamon flavors for my menthol substitute.
You need to read up on PG and VG and how it effects your juice.
(its the base all juices start with for the nic).
I use cartomizers and specifically Boge as I believe they are so easy to use and fill.
Others may disagree....just a matter of personal preference.

It's a small learning curve at first, but it is sooooo worth it!
It's gonna be ok!!!! Keep on keeping on!

PS. Drink ALOT of water. Vaping dries you out!

When I started vaping I had no intentions of quiting the analogs. It was a good way to avoid the cold blowing snow outside. I have realized that vaping tastes better than analogs now but I was still having a few every day. Another thing I have realised is that smoking has to do with ritual. I missed the getting up and walking out side for a smoke and shooting the breeze with my coworkers. So now I unhook my atty from the PT, connect to a batt and go outside just like I used to. So far this seems to be mostly working. Somewhere along the line a strange thing happened. I didn't want any more analogs. This suprised the heck out of me. So watch for things that you would normally do. Where you smoke, when you smoke, why you smoke, then take your PV for those times. It will work!
From what I gathered from your posts your nic level of 30mg/ml sounds about right. If you have only tried one juice then I'd recomend getting some sample packs from various suppliers to try. As far as PG VS VG well that is purely personal preference. PG gives a better TH but VG produces better vapor. Good luck.

is it possible to get sample packs for FREE anywhere?? I would be so down for anything FREE

Free ??...comon...on occasion you may get a vendor to throw in a free bottle, when you have
paid for a large order, but nothing free out there that I know of.
It would be great, but probably not going to happen.

I started my quiting with a mall kiosk type ecig, it kinda did the job but I felt like it just wasn't enough, I mean I stayed away from the analogs but barely... I went & ordered a big battery mod & have been vaping on a mod at 6v with HR atty's since the second week & I can say that that's def enough to satisfy me... the little ciggarette looking thing with carto's wasn't really "it"... I've seen this with some friends too, if they just try to stick with the weak little cig looking things then they cave & eventually start smoking analogs again... but with a slightly better piece of equipment that really delivers it's so much easier to fully satisfy any cravings you may have... think wimpy VS hefty... the right equipment can make all the difference IMHO... oh, & I never have to go over 16mg's on the mod, where I was doing more with the little thing yet getting less satisfaction, so...
