New to ecigs and not sure when to replace coil in a kanger evod

Hi sorry if I am repeating another thread but had a look and couldn't see anything similar

I decided I wanted to give up the cigs a week ago so bought myself a Kanger Evod with the aim to start on nicotine and wind the strength down until I feel I can try all the other amazing flavours that I have seen.

However not sure when I should change the coil in my ecig can anyone out there offer any advice?

I have done really well so far but need to understand the workings of my ecig more

Thanks for any help
Jo

I have 4 Evods myself. I love them. That being said, when the flavor starts to get really weak, and you get more burnt tasting hits, that's when you should change the atomizer.

My first Evod lasted 2 weeks before my first burnt taste and weak flavor. Once I changed it, it was fantastic again.

I've had atomizers last 2 days, and as I've said before, I've had one that lasted 2 weeks.

They're mass produced and some are going to be bum coils. Just gotta make sure you always have a 5-pack handy. The atomizers in my locla B&M are 10$ for a 5-pack. I know I can get them online for 6$ but then shipping cost will make it only slightly cheapr than in store and the shipping time might make me be without replacements. I don't like the sound of that lol.

Things to watch for:

Drop in flavor.

Drop in vapor.

Gurgling, spitting.

Burned taste.

You'll know when you get there, it's not subtle. :)

I'm really finicky so I change my coils about every 2-3 days - but I clean them and reuse them several times. I soak my in water until I have several to clean then soak overnight in water with a polident tablet (denture cleaner!) then I soak in almost boiling water then let them dry on a paper towel -- I've been using some of my coils for 2-3 months doing this - I don't know if rotating them lengthens the life, but it seems to work for me, I've had very few go bad on me =

Like Thunderball said, when it tasts bad, then change it. I have also found that when the vapor drops off, it is also a good time to change it. Cleaning the coils will help, I can get about 2-3 weeks out of a coil, and about 2-4 cleanings too. As an optimistic example, 3 weeks for a new coil, + 3 weeks per cleaning, times 4 cleanings equals 15 weeks of use for a single coil. I don't always get that much life out of them, but often I get close. As always though ... YMMV!

I clean mine with Everclear, otherwise known as Pure Grain Alcohol (PGA), soaking them over night, then rinsing them off in the morning and letting them dry. Many folks also dry burn them, but I don't, although it *may* help. I tried it a couple times but ended up doing it wrong and blowing the coil out completely.

There are many folks out in the forums that say you can use cheap vodka as well, but I have not tried that yet. When I run out of PGA I plan to try it and see if it works as well as Everclear.

BTW...Never use isopropyl alcohol for cleaning! It is meant for external use only, not for something you might end up inhaling.

thanks all for the advice I didn't even realise you could wash them out and reuse, I would have just thrown them away. Am building up my spares stock pile as I would hate to run out of something and end up going back on the fags!

My first week of the ecig experience has been great. Just got to get the nicotine level right so I don't end up having more than when I smoked real cigs

Thanks again

We do it very similar sir !!

I kinda forgot about the Vodka.... I dont know why. Ive moved on to Kayfuns but have two daughters that still use Evods and mini PT's for that "small form factor" for going partying and we keep a shot glass with an inch or so of Vodka in it on the kitchen counter. They use the same ritual as I use to.

They unscrew their heads every night and throw it in the Vodka and grab a nice dry one. An hour later ( or even overnight if they forget) they will take them out and grab a mouth full of water and blow throught the thing from the bottom side out. Then toss it on the paper towel to air dry.

Dont know if this is right or wrong but it kept me from buying replacement heads very often.

There are youtube videos showing cleaning and dry burning (burning off the gunk) for evod and protank coils...they are the same coils.

Time between cleanings can vary a great deal depending on what type and how much juice you use. I vape unflavored juice and mine last up to two weeks at 2 tanks per day. My wife uses a dark tobacco flavor and she goes about 5 days.

As others have said...

Drop off of vapor or bad taste or starts to gurgle more than normal...time to change it or clean it.

Don't worry, it will become second nature in no time.

Hi Jo, Great question and welcome to the ECF ... One thing that may help is.. Watching that the liquid in your tank doesn't go below the top of the silicone cap of the coil head. I've started doing that and it has really helped, as the last bit of juice isn't roasted and thickened as much as it would be if you were to vape a tank lower. By doing that I have found that cleaning the head is easier and way less gunk on the coil when I do clean them. I'm starting to rinse / toss a head in a glass of water / every time I refill a tank and it's just a habit now and the process of cleaning and continuing to have a good vape every time is a matter of keeping the heads clean, no matter what process used.
Blessings and Joy,
Bliss
