You will know.... It will taste like crap and the overall performance of the coil will drop considerably.

What he said ^^^ :)

You can dry burn most coils/heads and get a lot more life out of them too, so save the coils you replace for a while. But until you figure that out, know that as your coil and wicks get 'gunked up' from use they will start to lose flavor, vapor production and will start to burn juice after a while. When that becomes too much for you, replace the coil/head and things go back to normal.

Just learn to rebuild them after the first one burns up. Then acquire a few extra and rebuild the ones you pull out once a week or so. I have probably 6 or 7 for my pt2 and swap it out when performance seems to have dropped before they burn up and generally rebuild the used ones on the weekend when I'm having coffee at starbucks or something. :)

As the others have said, when it tastes bad change it.

Also agree with learning how to rebuild. I rebuild all my kanger emow Mega's coil's to a vertical coil wicked with japanese cotton. The vape is so much better in my opinion than a shop bought coil and they seem to last longer to me as I have 5 tanks and keep the same tank for each flavour I like so I only change them about once a month.
