Alright first post here guys. Been doing this vaping thing now for about 5 months. quit 2 packs a day of Kool 100s green box cold turkey after 12 years. pretty happy about that.

So far Ive tried a bunch of different tank systems. carto tanks, clearos, including the kangers t2 and t3 and have been staying mainly with the smoktek low ohm carto tanks and have been reasonably happy with them. However I recently decided to give a rebuildable a whirl and bought a AGA-t along with 400mesh and 28 gauge Kanthal. made my wick and everything and began wrapping my coil. No matter how many times or ways I do my coil as soon as I test it the small space between the wick and center post instantly pops. At 3volts on my lava tube or 3.3volts on my ego twist. looked here and on youtube, watched all the videos and read all the responses, and no matter how I wrap it, which direction i start or finish, how tight or how loose, how many coils, test it wet or dry, double back the excess wire, pull the wick closer, push it farther, expand the wick, tighten the coil, I cannot even get 2 seconds of burn on it. The lower coils are not even getting a chance to heat up. It's driving me insane. I would like to get this thing working but so far I'm closer to throwing it in the street while screaming obscenities. Anyone happen to have a random suggestion I have not heard yet? I'm about at the end of my rope with this.

Yeah go to the RBA subforum

I just got my aga t2 today. First thing, since you're new to wrapping coils (like I am), use higher gauge wire. It's more forgiving and won't pop so easily. What are the most wraps you made? The more wraps, the higher the resistance and the less likely to break the wire. It won't get as hot. Try to make the top coil-positive post connection as short as possible.

As Becky & Starik suggested, get your post count up to 5, and then you can post in other sub-forums. Go to the RBA sub that was linked and post this same text there for help from the RBA gurus. :)

I tried pulling the wick out and re oxidizing it thinking maybe it didnt have enough carbon but thats not it. tried 7 wraps came out to 7 ohms still popped first hit. twisted the wire and recoiled with 3 wraps. didn't pop but the coils won't red red hot and the hit tasted like ..... went back to single strand 3 wraps and got hot once and then popped. It is resistance wire, 28gauge kanthal. going to order some 32 nichrome and 32 kanthal, and some non resistance wire here in a bit and try chaining the no resistance with the resistance, and clip the resistance wire before the positive post, so the non resistance is the only wire touching the connection. I have made sure the wick is not touching the bottom of the tank or the sides of the tank or post. but at 7 ohms which is what I got with the 7 wraps tested at 3 volts there shouldn't have even been enough voltage to pop the coil so I'm at a total loss. this is really bumming me out. I already went through the top coil hot spot thread and watched all the videos but so far still no luck. I appreciate the responses and suggestions though guys. guess I will be sticking with the carto tanks for the time being.

but I don't want to go back to 2!!!

I keep playing with this thing and still can't seem to get it right. Near as I can tell I think my ohms are way to high causing the small gap between the top most coil and the positive post to be the weakest link. Since our batteries regulate power and not ground causeing much more heat burning that coil. I'm going to try moving to a 33gauge kanthal A1 wire with a 4-5 twist and see what I can make happen. Does anybody know of a way to insulate the area of the wick where it passes through the hole into the tank? Other than oxidizing it obviously. I want to minimize the area of possible shorts to just the coil so I can rule out the wick. I managed to pull the wick out and at 3.0 volts all the coils glow perfectly red. Soon as the wick goes in top coil pops. I think as soon as I get to 5 posts I will copy and paste my last couple posts into a new thread and see if I can get a guru answer.

......ok I feel like a ..... right now...... turns out I accidentally ordered nichrome wire not kanthal. I got my wire orders mixed up and am still waiting on my kanthal. that being said every coil I've wrapped has probably been around the .5-.7 ohm range. obviously not at all what I want. Hopefully here in a couple days when the Kanthal actually shows up I'll have better luck...thanks for the suggestions guys but turns out I'm just dumb!

No problem. Good luck to you when your kanthal arrives.

I mean... No feel bad. You OK. Me hope you make happy. New wire happy. Good :)

So I made some progress today finally. Got some wire from a buddy and added a washer to the positive post and finally got rid of the top coil hot spot. began adjusting coils as required and hot spot moved to the bottom coil. was able to work out that spot and finally got the coils all nice and glowing red. filled tank and tipped to make sure it wicking. was able to get some juice out of the top of the wick and everything looked good. measures in at 1.7 ohms. put top on and began to vape away. TASTES LIKE BURNT ...!!!!! just horribly burnt metal flavor to it. thought maybe its not wicking fast enough so I made the wick hole slightly larger and readjusted coils. seems good to go and am able to get a decent bit of juice out of the wick when tipping device. vape again.... TASTES LIKE BURNT ...!!!! I'm completely over this thing. In the trash can it has gone.
