Help with rebuildables

So I started getting into rebuildables recently, and I keep hearing about not making the wire touch because that's what causes shorts. So if I wrap coils around a wick, am I supposed to make sure that the coils don't intersect at anypoint and space them out? Does that make a hotspot or a short? I'm using a smoktek RDA Octopus. Any help would be appreciated. I'm using a 1000mah Joye CTwist (aware of the risks) and am waiting for my multimeter to arrive in the mail.

Basically yes, the coil should not overlap or touch at any point. I would be super cautious until you can properly check OHM's, I know you are aware of the risks, but overloading those batteries is really easy to do.

Also, a side note with the Smok RDA's (Octopus and Squid) the screw connection can be fiddly. Sometimes it will feel and seem secure, but when checking the ohm, the reading will bounce around.

Just out of curiosity, what gauge wire are you using, and how many wraps are you doing?

I use a med/large sewing needle to wrap wicks with 32ga kanthol. it's easier to hold onto and keep wick straight. keep needle in the wick/coil. place it in the atty, insert the top gently to hold it all together while i work on the wire ends on the bottom, after thats complete take off the top, gently pull out the needle and re insert the top. 4-5 wraps gets me 2-2,.5 ohm every time.
