Ok... my last annoying piece of advice. Try not to focus so much on quitting but on enjoying vaping - for many of us the vaping is just better and the analog habit takes care of itself. I started by allowing myself a fixed # per day and they just tasted like garbage after a few days.

Everyone is different but worked for me -- 25 year 1+ppd smoker. Good luck with your kit and keep us posted.

EDIT: nvm... I found the option for a manual battery for the Volt Starter Pack... I think I'm leaning more towards that one... now to find a good menthol juice to start out with. I can experiment more once I know what I'm doing. ^_^

After a lot of homework, I chose the Volt Standard Starter Kit. Love it. I am/was the same way about smoking as you are, except I never had the discipline or willpower to cut down below at least a pack a day. I have most of a carton of cigarettes in the house and since I got my kit 4 days ago, have no desire to pick up an actual cigarette. As far as my brain is concerned, I'm smoking. It's pretty amazing.

I tried that too, before when I tried to quit. Only allowing myself a fixed amount per day. Didn't work as well as I'd hoped.

I have a pack and a half left now, and enough from my cig funds to purchase one more if I absolutely need (the ecig stuff now is money I'd specifically put aside to purchase the starter kit and accessories)... But I'm hoping that what happened with you will with me too, that the vaping will eventually take the place of the smoking and I won't want or need a cigarette, or if I do, I'll not like it in comparison and stick with the vaping only.

An innovator or a dork, who's to say? If it works - it's innovation. :) I must add that a very high percentage of people on the ECF are amazing. Any questions just post and we all love to help.

Seems to me about everyone I've encountered on ECF has been amazing in one way or another. Sometimes it's because of things they know, other times they're seeking answers to questions I never thought to ask before. Lots of other stuff too, to enliven my mind & help me sweep the cobwebs out. I often write in response to beginners' posts, "Be prepared to be amazed", because I surely have been since I've been here. But just now I'm thinking, how well that works will depend upon the openness of one's mind.
Happy Vaping! :vapor:

Okay, I made my order. Volt Standard Starter Kit with Ice Menthol (tobacco) 18mg, added a pack of MentholBurst (non-tobacco) 18mg and a pack of blanks from Smokeless Image. Also picked up some liquid 10ml each of Tobacco 18mg (4% menthol), Tobacco 24mg (4% menthol), Double Chocolate 18mg and Peppermint 18mg from RAWR Vapor. Total cost: $85 out of the $100 I had saved. So I can put some back for later purchases (more cartos or liquid).

The choices were hard, there are so many combinations and strengths I want to try, but I will get to them in time. I think this is a good variety for starting out. I also would eventually like to get a pass through battery and a PCC (for the few times I'm actually away from the house) but those can wait a bit.

Again, thank you all for your help. I'm sure I'll need it again when it comes to refilling cartos or (heaven help me) getting brave enough to maybe try DIY. I'll prolly lurk around until I get my kit, but I'll definitely let everyone know how I'm doing with it. I'll prolly be more active after that.

Congrats KaitLynnHt !!!! Your first step to being smoke free !!!

The Volt is a nice package, I picked one up for my GF and was impressed enough to buy
one for myself, (and from my sig you can see i'm more into mods :))

Starting out, just remember to draw on it slow and easy, different from a cig but easy to
get used to!! :)

Okay, I cheated.

My Volt is supposed to be coming in tomorrow, but I only have a couple cigs left in my pack. Won't last me until mail comes. So I walk done to the gas station convenience store to by another pack, grumbling about buying another pack of cigs when I hoped my last would be just that. (This is in no way a complaint on shipping time for Smokeless Image. I'm getting my Volt MUCH faster than I thought I would. I just couldn't see buying a whole pack with only a day to go.)

So halfway there I think about their signage that I saw a couple months ago that got me thinking about getting a PV. So I'm thinking, $12.99 for some unknown cheapo ecig, or $5 for a pack of cigarettes that will last me probably longer than some disposable battery. To my surprise, it wasn't a disposable, but came with a USB charger and they sell replacement cartos for it. Problem is, I know nothing about it... not what model it is, or what the strength of the nicotine is. It's not the greatest, but its not as bad as I was afraid it would be. A bit harsh, but I think that's the absence of the menthol. Non-menthol cigs are harsh to me as well.

But I figure it would make a decent backup to keep around. Still, can't wait to get my Volt - counting the seconds - and this will get shelved once it comes in. And I think of it as practice so that I can properly enjoy my Volt as soon as it arrives!!

But I guess this means I'm officially a Vaper now. ^_^

You are already a vaper at heart :D I'm so thrilled that you resisited the urge to go for the smokes and went with the ecig. I know a lot of people that would have bought the cigarettes as a "one for the road" smoke session. I believe from that action, that you will be quite successful at vaping. You should be really proud of yourself.

Just remember that the draw on an ecig is different that the draw on a cigarette. Short, hard draws will not work. You need to take long, slow drags and keep the vapor into your mouth before trying to inhale. If you try to direct inhale into the lungs, it'll be too harsh on your throat. At least that's what I've seen from my experience. Having this one to practice on is a great idea. I just can't wait to see your reaction when you get the Volt lol

There is no information for it anywhere that I can find. It doesn't say how much nic is in it. Just says high. I've seen 18mg rated as "high" but I've also seen a few 24mg eliquids rated as "high" only. My cigarettes seem stronger though. It honestly reminds me of the non-menthol lights I used to smoke a long time ago in taste and hit.

I just get headaches really easy though, specially if I'm putting unusually high strain or stress on my head - like my eyes or sinuses. Really only happens when I drag. I"ll give it some time, after an adjustment period, it'll prolly go away.

Oh, and I don't think PG is a problem with me, cause I have an emergency asthma inhaler... and it's never bothered me that I noticed.

It can take some getting used to, that is for certain. Please remember to drink a LOT of water when you are vaping. PG and VG will dry you out and it is easy to get dehydrated if you don't keep up with your fluid intake. The extra water will also help to flush the toxins from smoking out of your system more quickly.
