I've been lurking here for a few weeks and have gotten a lot of good hints and advice. I have (had) been smoking 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day for 50 years and have tried to quit a dozen + times: patches, gum, prescriptions, American Lung Association, University quit smoking programs plus some private smoking cessation programs.

Saw a commercial for Blu e-cigs and bought 4 for my husband and myself. We both felt we could quit analogs using e-cigs. Bought the Joye ego tank system and several different juices. The first week each of us smoked 4-5 a day, then 1-2 a day. When we were down to our last pack, we just quit. Using the e-cig, quitting analogs this time was the easiest we have ever had without even trying. Haven't had any of the negative problems that I have had in the past.

My only problem is I have several different flavors of juice and I can't taste them. My husband can, but I can only tell if it's a creamy juice (strawberries and cream, can only tell it is creamy), orange I can only tell it's citrus, most I just can't taste what flavor it is. We quit the first of October. How much longer will it take before I can taste the flavors?

 First of all, congratuations on your decision to stop smoking. And welcome to ECF. There is a ton of information here and plenty of people willing to answer questions and offer guidance and support. Please do not feel intimidated. This is another world to learn. It will soon all come together for you.

I'd also like to add that by choosing to stop smoking cigarettes by using e-cigarettes, you should have an easier time than with nicotine patches or gum. Vaping will allow you to continue the ritual habit of hand-to-mouth behavior that has become ingrained into our brain and personality. It also comes close to the sensation of inhaling smoke into our mouth, throat, and lungs, only using a much safer water vapor. These two things are just as important to me as the nicotine. And the patches or gum can't do that.

Years of cigarette use has damaged your taste buds. Good news is that they will return, but the length of time is different for everyone. Just be aware that everyone goes through this. Drink plenty of water. Lots of it. Vaping e-juice and the hot vapor can dehydrate us and cause dry mouth. That also affects taste.

When exhaling your vapor, allow some to escape through your nose. Our sense of taste is very closely connected to our sense of smell. You'll understand this better by recalling how food and drink tastes muted when we have a stuffy nose or cold. I've noticed that I taste many of my flavors via my sense of smell and exhaling through my nose. If I didn't do that, there would be little or no flavor.

When available, order extra flavor with custom made e-juices. Also, order only juice samplers or smaller trial sizes at first. Don't waste money on larger bottles that you may not like. If you like a sample flavor, order again in a larger size.

Stay motivated. When you feel the need for a cigarette, just vape more frequently until the urge passes. If it doesn't, it won't be the end of the world if you allow yourself just one. Over a short time of this practice, the cigs will begin to become less satisfying and you will eventually prefer vaping over a cigarette. Before too long, cigarettes likely will taste bad to you.

Always have an extra battery or two available. And always have enough juice to last a week (about the time it takes new orders to arrive). No charged batteries or no juice = no vaping. Don't give yourself an excuse to run out and get another pack of cigs while batteries are charging - that's happened to me. :nah:

Finding a good flavored juice or two is just as important as finding the right equipment to vape with. Try all the flavor niches, not just the tobacco or menthol flavors, although one of those might work well at first.

I had a similar experience when I started vaping. I don't know for sure, but it seems like it could of been the brand /type of juice I was using. Most of the juice I used at that time was more pg based with dekang flavors I think. I was ordering a lot of sampler packs at the time when I found the vapor station. Their juice is a little different somehow, besides the fact that they use a 50/50 blend of pg/vg. I could taste them always, and I still like their tampa brand which is a tobacco flavor (used it exclusively for the last year). They have a big assortment of other flavors as well. Lately I'v been mixing my own at a 50/50 blend, and I'm really enjoying this at this time. I'm not pluging for these guys. I'm just saying you may have to mix up your juice a little bit. It helped me thru this.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have tried Mt Baker with extra shots. It seems to help some, but not a lot. My husband says they are all perfect, of course. I am using 50/50 and 24 nicotine. Have tried 4 other vendors, so I really think it's me, not the vendor. The cheapest ones taste just like the expensive. Maybe that is good $wise, my husband likes them all. :) :)

Boni, some excellent info in the above posts!

And welcome to ECF!

Couple of other items I would like to add. I find I stop tasting the flavor of a juice if I vape it too long. That might be after a week, a day or an hour, depending on the juice. I typically have at least 2 and sometimes 4 flavors handy and switch between them often. A couple of flavors that I never stop tasting are mint (Candy Cane from MadVapes) and tobacco (right now, HangSang 3 & 5). These two are extremely strong flavors as juices go which is what I think is doing it for me. The lighter juices I have and like I tend to vape more in the mornings when my palate is fresher.
