So I got the vivi nova 2.5, some kanathal a1 32 gauge and wick. My question is what determines the resistance? I know the gauge comes in to play, but does the amount of coil raps change the resistance as well. I am looking to try to get anywhere from 1.8 to 2.2 resistance. Is that possible with 32 gauge? Thanks

Each gauge has an ohms rating per foot or inch. 32g A1 kanthal is about 1.1 ohms per inch. When I do my vivi coils with nr silver legs, I twist the siver legs on first leaving 2.25 in of 32 kanthal between the two nr legs and then I wrap the 2.25 inches around the wick and always have 2.4 ohms. This is usually 6 wraps but that can change depending on the dia of the wick.

If you are getting onboard the rba train, then the best thing to do is Invest. And what I mean by that is buy a multimeter and some wire clip attachments. This way it does not matter the wick size or gauge of wire your using (mostly) :)
Clip one lead onto the wire with a little leg room, and then clip the other lead on. Adjust the second lead back and forth until you get the desired ohms. i.e.

Next use you finger nails (if you have any) and make a small bend in the wire for a referance point.

Now all you have to do is attach your NR wire to the R wire at those marks you made. Now it does not matter how big in dia your wick is, it should come out at the ohms you measured out.

Easy peasy.
