Greetings all. I figure this would be best in the rebuildable section but I believe im not yet at my 5 posts so I have to post here. I am analog free now for one year and have become an avid hobbyist though on a very tight budget(60-70/mo vape budget for supplies/mods). Though I am saving for some high end stuff. I have a few questions though. I am beginning to rebuild(love my RSST) My first question is the same tired old one. What would you recommend someone with my budget getting into for a Dripper? I'm very satisfied with my RSST for a tank..for now. Second question..if you were going for the ultimate Vape experience...what would you buy(price is not an issue with this one) Next question...where would you recommend that I look to buy wick/wire? Final question...am looking to sub ohm...but cant seem to get a wrap on my RSST to drop below 1.2 Ohms without some kind of short/hot spot issue. Im using 30 gauge Kanthal with 3 wraps on 400x400 ss mesh for my wick. Thanks in advance for any replies

for the dripper, get an igo-l or igo-w. both are cheap and very good (w has 3 posts to make it easier to build dual coils).

for wire, the best place to go is temco. for wick (or wick and wire), ebay or amazon (strangely enough...).

if you want to go sub-ohm, you need bigger wire. 3 wraps of 28 gauge kanthal on my did gets me around .7/.8 ohms. 4 wraps each on a dual-coil dripper gets me about .5 ohms.

also, if you go sub-ohm, you may need to drill out your airholes a little bit to provide more air to cool down the vapor.

it sounds like you're already being safe, but just in case you're not, make sure you know exactly what you're doing, check and double check everything, and above all, make sure you use good batteries!

Everyone likes mesh. I hate mesh. When I first got my RSST, I spent a couple of days playing with mesh. I was using 500 and 32 Kanthal, but that is beside the point. It was a pain. Mesh too tight, too small, too loose, too big, wraps too tight, too loose, not even, hot spots. etc. First hit was good, anything after was burnt. I thought I am not going through this every time, I put in a new wick.

I got out some 3mm silica, folded in half, and pulled through the wick hole with Kanthal. I used enough wick to let it lay on the bottom of the tank. Used the same 32 Kanthal to wrap it. 4 wraps came to 1.9ohms. Worked great. Not clouds of vaper, but good. I hit the power button and watched the wick dry out a little, and boom the wick was wet again. No burnt hits. Most of my wraps were not spaced evenly.

Next time I wrapped it 7 times with 28 Kanthal. Came out to 1.32ohms. I little increase in vapor, but a hotter vape. More TH because the vapor was hotter. As compared to my carto tank with the same juice.

You can wrap silica tighter than mesh, so you may be able to get the sub ohms with the same 30 Kanthal wrap. But why sub ohms?

Hey guys,
I'm new here and I just recently purchased an igo-l I was wondering if a build using 3mm sil wick and 32g kanthal is a feasible build? Also I'm planning on using and ego with it (please don't scold me of this is a bad idea) or should I wait till I get a better pv. Any info would be awesome.
Thanks Serian for starting the thread.

for a first-time build, you really should wait until you get a better pv. it's easy to overlook a short the first time around, and with an ego, you'll end up killing it. if the pv you get doesn't read resistance, you'll need something to check that as well (ohmmeter or dmm). it's a good idea to get one anyways, but if you're only going to use it on a pv that reads ohms and doesn't fire beneath 1.2-1.5 ohms, i wouldn't say it's an absolute necessity.

the wick and wire should be fine. 32g is a little thin so it can pop easily, but it's good for keeping the resistance up.

I got my igo-L today and I'm loving it. I've been wanting a nice simple RBA to learn with and one that I could also use to drip with so I could test my juices before throwing them in a tank. My first try with 2mm silica and 32g kanthal was a little higher than I would like (2.0), but it was pretty simple.

thanks to all of you for the advice..looks like im going with the IGO W probably with 3mm silica and 28 gauge wire. Im definitely saving the $$$$$$ for a high end setup. If you guys have any faves on the high ends (mods and attys0 please let me know. Sub Ohming...why? My first sample of a rebuilt setup was at .9 ohms and the taste and vapor production was right like I like it so im aiming for somewhere around that as my ultimate resistance. Though 1.0 on my RSST is pretty darn close to what I want :)

I'd recommend buying a little bit of both 28ga and 30ga Kanthal. That will give you some flexibility. You could even buy some 32ga in case you ever feel like experimenting with higher resistance coils.

EDIT: Oops, just read your original post and it appears that you already have 30ga. Between that and some 28ga you should be good to go.
