Wow I'm frustrated. I have been so excited all week to recieve my reo. I took it out of the box, threw a Phoenix rba on it and BAM. Melted spring. I am confused as to why the spring melted, since my provari didn't have issues running my phoenix. I just bought a handful more springs, but I was also looking into the 2 cents fuse protection against shorts. The second version is $15, and apparently it is reusable Does anyone have experience using these in Reos? I would rather get a 2 cents fuse and not have to worry about any more melted springs.

Check the bottom of the Phoenix. Does the center stick out?

Sometimes if attys are used on other PV's with different connectors they will short out on another PV. This can be caused by the bottom making contact by pushing the gasket out of place.

Trading attys from one type or make of PV to another frequently causes problems.

Try holding the fire button down while slowly screwing the atty down. Stop when it fires the atty. you should be able to pull the spring back up so the bat will fit. This sounds like a crushed gasket to me, but what do I know.

Always be aware that if you pull the spring up and fire you will not get a collapsed spring in case of a short! One time only! You could end up with a melted firing button.

All 3 of my phoenixes posts on the bottom are a little bit recessed, and not poking out. I am a bit confused about what you mean by pushing the gasket out of place.

I'll try pulling the spring back up a bit, and I'll try what you said Emris.

Does anyone have any experience in using the 2 cents for safety fuse in the reo?

When the spring does arrive do what I said. The center pin on a phoenix is not fixed, so if you took the cap off and pushed down on the positive pole the center pin will move down if it is pushed up. You could just use something and push down on the center of the atty with the cap off to see also.

The gasket allows some movement in the connector and keeps the positive and negative apart. It can be pushed too much out of place and let a short happen.

Atty's also should never be put on tight. Just enough to be snug. So, when they stop turning easy stop.

I am not an expert by any means. But I have heard of this happening before.

There was a thread on the safety fuse. I will post it if I can find it.

So it would be better if the center pin of the pheonix is pulled out a bit so the connector doesn't disrupt the gasket? Sorry for asking all these questions, I am just trying to learn. I should have an A7 arriving in the mail shortly as well.

You should contact Robert (redeyedancer) by PM and get this information from him. He will know just what you need to do! We want your REO's to work great! He can help you with any atty on your REO! You could phone him also! His contact info is on reosmods.

Just talked to robert. Nice guy! He recommended using a 510-510 adapter. He said he actually tests all the reos out using Phoenix rebuildables, and he doesn't have any issues when using the adapter.

I was only using the phoenix on it to test it. I have an A7 in route, so hopefully that wont have issues, and will hold me over until I can afford an ERA or Challice.

When in doubt,
Give a shout,
To Robert!

He does not mind at all and really does want everyone to enjoy a good working REO!

Hey all!
Today I'm the proud owner of a BRAND NEW purple 18490 and my A7 arrived right along with it. Built a new 1.5 ohm coil for the A7 (arrived with a crappy little 2.4 ohm mystery coil) around some long 3mm wick and stuffed it all together, threw it on a 510-510 extension and whipped it on my 18490.
Bzzt. Melted spring. duh. RE-DO.
Replaced the spring, put in a ShortStop, took care not to overtighten...Wow. Just Wow! A7 = nice value.
Moral: ShortStop + care = good.

Glad I put an order in! I hope it comes this week. If it does I'm going to stretch my spring out, throw that fuse on and vape away. So excited.
