I am VERY new to smoking and need help picking out my first set. I was going to purchase this set up but not sure if it is worth the price. Not really looking for anything fancy. Only interesting in being able to taste the flavor and having a lot of vap. I plan on making my own e-juice with 100% VG and no nicotine. NEED HELP! Mostly looking for if the battery, clearomizer and mod are good ones to have as a new smoker.

Welcome to ECF, soon to be a vaper not a smoker :)

I wouldn't recommend a mechanical to a new vaper. There are some really important safety issues with them. Other types of devices have protections built in.

Second, let us know your budget, and your goals. If you're currently intending to ultimately stop, then some of the high end devices may not be a good use of money. But there are lots of choices in the mid and low end ranges.

To be able to conveniently adjust your vape for the best flavor, I'd suggest something at least VV - Variable Voltage, and devices that are VV and VW - Variable Wattage - allow you to do that. A mechanical, unless you add something like a Kick, you can only adjust by changing the coil to one of a different resistance. (VV and VW do the same thing, control the power to the coil, in different ways. VV may require more changes.)

If your wanting something simple then I'm really not sure if a mechanical mod would be the best thing for you

:thumb: I agree with this. A mechanical mod will have no built-in protection. The vendor does make the recommendation to use IMR batteries, which are a safer chemistry battery. However, even an eGo battery will have a 7 second auto shutoff feature which is a safety feature to prevent accidental over discharge of the battery should the fire button get stuck or accidentally pressed in a pocket or purse.

Warnings from the website:

"Note: This is a fully mechanical unit, therefore there is no built in protection circuitry. Do not stack batteries as you can damage any attached devices. Please use with caution and research thoroughly as we are not liable for any damage to atomizers, batteries, etc.

We recommend using only IMR type rechargeable batteries in the K101."

I personally would recommend a simple Ego variable voltage battery, with a clearomizer for the juice attachment, like the one below:

Do you curently smoke cigarettes ?

If you dont, I wouldnt start vaping.

I used to feel this way myself. Why start something that could become habit forming, right?

However, I now feel that adults should be free to choose what they put into their bodies as long as they are aware of the potential risks to their health. People consume alcohol, which is a known poison. So is nicotine.

Many new vapors who are not cigarette smokers, very often coming from a background of hookah bars, are using NO NICOTINE flavored e-liquids in e-cigarettes. My own non-smoker daughter in college is using one. Because of her vaping, she has successfully converted her brother, BF, and a few of her smoking friends over to vaping to quit their cigarette habit.

VV - Variable Voltage, VW - Variable Wattage - both terms apply to a type of mod that has a chip to make these adjustments. A Mechanical mod does not have these features.

If you're like me and you get bored quickly with one flavor or you want to try out different flavors throughout the day, then I'd suggest a dripping atomizer. When I started vaping last month I dove right in to the "advanced" and watched youtube vids on how to build a micro coil and bought the hardware I needed. I bought an Innokin Itaste MVP 2.0 - it's a VV / VW device, reads coil resistance, and comes with a puff counter. It's currently on sale for $40.

For an atomizer, you can't go wrong with an Igo-s or Igo-L for single coil builds. They're both less than $20

I am feeling like dissuading you from starting myself. I am not sure how old you are, or what the situation is, but I have seen more than a few threads here with young people trying to jump in to vaping, and their models are the cloud chasers, so they want to jump in with both feet, sub ohm and go nuts.

First, I recommend asking yourself why you want to start a behavior that could lead to a lifetime addiction or dependency. Just think about that for a moment. If you are young, you might not really know what this actually means, but coming from someone who smoked for 30+ years, it's solid advice. If you can answer that for yourself, then go for it. But start small.

The consequences of screwing something up while building your device can be as dramatic as having it literally explode in your mouth. And not a little pop and a burned lip.. a big explosion with missing teeth and no lips left.

So, start with something regulated, like an eGo kit with a Protank Mini, or even an Itaste MVP2 with a ProTank on top. You can get really nice vapor production, all day battery life and the ability to change flavors easily.

The MVP will actually also give you the tools you will need to learn about what is happening with your device. You can see the direct relationship between voltage and resistance and how it affects vapor production, flavor and heat. When you decide to move forward, you will be able to SAFELY use an atomizer that allows you to build your own coils. With a regulated device, you reduce the risk of danger to almost 0. The device will not fire if you are putting too great a load across it.

Please, please be safe. Please, please heed the advice of people here. There is a strong community of experienced people that will guide you in the right direction if you decide that vaping is for you. And please, please realize the dangers involved before trying to go down the path of 'cloud chasing' or trying to push your equipment to the limits. It's not worth the risks.

So would something like this be a better set up for me? or can you give me a few links?
