Hi everyone, I just stumbled on this site and just learned yesterday about the existence of e cigarettes. I am a current smoker and am in the military. I have tried several options to quit; cold turkey, gum, patches... all to no avail. I recently saw advertisements on tv for the nicorette inhaler (nicotrol inhaler) in the US and started doing a little research. Thats when I learned about these e-cigaretttes and there seems to be many success stories about them. I decided that I need to quit last week when I was out hunting and my normal half pack a day went up to a full pack and a bit per day. It just didnt make sense that I would go through all the trouble to take time off for hunting and be out in the woods just to light up a smoke and scare every potential deer in the vacinity away. I am having some trouble figuring out where I should start with this "program". I think I will buy the EGO from happy vaper (canadian site) and get the "juice" from vapables. My questions are; is the EGO a good choice for a newbie? what strength juice should I get from vapables and in what flavour? are the cartomizers from happy vaper a good choice or should I just get cartriges? Will vaping really cure the craving for cigarettes and get me off "analogs" for good?

Keep in mind I'm not looking for a new hobbie or anything I just really want to be smoke and eventually nicotine free. Thanks everyone this looks like a great site.

Welcome Tim!

I think I won't be the only one to have the opinion that the eGo would be an awesome choice for a newbie. I think of it as a rig built for convenience. I started with 510s, and about a week later the battery life started to get annoying so I upgraded to the eGo.

That said, it will take a little trial and error at first to find out what parts and juice you like the best. Try to order some smaller sizes of juice in different strengths and flavors. Even with all the details of your smoking habit, no two smokers really smoke the same and I don't think two vapers vape the same either. Impossible to predict which strength you will be happiest with. And along the same line, might as well pick up a couple cartomizers and a drip tip to try out too. A strong preference for one setup above the others could make the difference.

I've been off regular cigs for a couple weeks now and it wasn't even hard. Well I was slightly annoyed on day 3 lol, but that could have been anything really. :) And I was still happy I had my eGo.

Good luck and welcome again, only thing I'm not sure about is whether deer can ever notice an eGo!

Hi welcome to ECF, the Joye eGo in my opinion is one of the best e-cigs, it worked for me and I smoked for 33 years. I use a drip tip but many do like cartomizers. As far as flavors, I would order several small bottles til you see what you like, then order bigger bottles of the ones you liked. Don't get stuck in the trap that most of us did that thinking that we needed it to taste like a cigarette to work, for me the opposite was true, it was sweet flavors like caramel and coffee flavors that worked for me. Nicotine strength differs from person to person and doesn't seem to matter what or how much you smoked, most people I would say need to start with 18 or 24 mg. So I would start with something in that range. But if you get headaches and dizzy you are using too high a strength, if it isn't satisfying your cravings then you may need more. Hope this helps, good luck.

Ok, so I'm good with the EGO I think thats the one I'll get, as for the tips. The only reason I was looking into cartomizers is because when you change the tip you've got a new atomizer and you shouldnt have to worry about a burn out. Now heres where I get confused. Somone correct me if I am wrong. Regular atomizers go inside regular cartriges? and inside regular cartriges is some sort of cotton for absorbing the juice? and a drip tip goes on a regular atomizer so you can drip juice in the end every time before you vape? and a cartomizer is an atomizer fixed inside a cartrige with cotton inside????

The eGo or Riva, they're basically the same thing just different brands, are a great choice. You don't seem to be stuck in the typical newbie trap of "it's gotta look like a cig". As far as the juice, I agree with those who posted before me. Small bottles of different strengths and flavors. Find what you like, then order big bottles. It seems like the average vaper uses between 2ml and 4ml a day. On your first juice order consider ordering around 40ml. That'll give you around a week find your nic level and decide if you like any of the flavors you tried. Also order some spare parts. A couple of extra atomizers and a box of cartridges, or an extra box of cartomizers, whichever route you decide to go. I'd also suggest a drip tip. They're cheap and a lot of people prefer them.

You use a cartridge or a drip tip on an atomizer. A cart holds some juice in the filler inside it. A drip tip doesn't have filler, you just drip a few drops into the atomizer. You need to fill more often but it only take like 3 seconds. An atomizer usually lasts a month or more from my experience. A cartomizer holds a lot more juice and you can vape longer between fills. It also has an atomizer built in so you don't need a separate one. But they're considered disposable so you may get 3 refills, or 20, you never know. The cost of an atomizer is about the same as a 5 pack of cartomizers.

For less hassle choose soft cap cartomizers. For more vapor and flavor choose atomizers. That's my 2 cents anyway.

Hmmm... so much to learn. I'm going to keep reading before I buy.

The eGo 510 is a good choice for someone new to vaping. Most newbies make the big mistake of getting e-liquid with too low nicotine. I would strongly suggest getting 24mg nicotine strength to start out. You might want to get another bottle of the same flavor in 11mg in the off chance the 24mg is too strong. You can then mix the two to what ever lower strenght works for you. (i.e. - 24 + 11 = 35/2 = 17.5mg) But unless you only smoked a few analogs a day, you will probably need the 24mg strength.

Good Luck

Hi Tim and welcome to the ECF from one military member (retired) to another! The eGo is a great choice as a starter. I am smoke free for almost 11 days now because of my e-cig/pv. I got high nic juices 24 and 36mg to help carve my cravings as I was a 1 1/2 pad or more smoker for over 24+ yrs and it worked for me. I mostly drip but do use the occasional carto/cart once in awhile. I love dripping tho, good flavor/vapor and th. Anyway welcome and happy vaping!! :)
