So Cal
Well, I have been searching for smokeless options in another attempt to quit "analogs". Seems that no matter the question, I am drawn to this site. So I ordered a starter kit (will not reveal brand to avoid debate), when it arrives I can see how this turns out. I suppose part of the "therapy" is to join the site and further my education in this endeavor.
I first purchased a disposable e-cig, and was surprised at the effect it produced. Like most smokers, I am more and more frustrated with the 2nd class attitude I get when I light up, that is if I can find a place to smoke. Here in California, smoking is restricted to remote areas and back alleys like a criminal.
Since everything else is electronic, seems fitting that, now, even smoking is!!!

(Thats 1 post!)
AH the Rules we live by.

from what I know, PG has more throat hit, less flavor, and less vapor. VG has more vapor, more flavor, and less throat hit (correct me if I'm wrong). I usually use a 70pg/30vg mix to balance out the two. Oh, and those 2nd class looks do get annoying. except when I'm at a bar and they let me vape my pv indoors and all the smokers look at me with jealousy because they have to go outside to smoke (especially when it's cold) :D

PG holds flavor better and gives better throat hit but VG makes more vapor. You just have to play around with them to see what mix you like. I like 70% PG with 30% VG. It gives me the combo of throat hit, flavor and vapor I need but you may be different. When you order liquids try lots of different ones and buy them in the smallest bottles you can get because you will have ones that you don't like and this way you won't have 30 mls of yuck liquid sitting there going to waste.

For now, I am going to use the pre filled cartos, I have read that they can be refilled, at least a few times anyway. If true, I may try some small amounts of juice to top off. Are the prefilled cartos a mix or straight PG or VG?

That will depend on where you buy them. I've seen them in straight vg as well as a mix

Ok, first, don't keep buying prefilled, they are expensive and you are limited to whatever juice they sell. Why pay $1.85-$2.50 per carto when you can refill for 20-30cents. Since you are talking about prefilled, I assume you bought a mini, which is fine. Personally, I like the mini for newbies and for being on the road. I know I'm one of the few.

Second, pg does not create throat hit, vg mutes it. Here are the differences. Nicotine creates throat hit, the higher the nic, the more throat hit. Pg is thinner, vg is thick. You can not have 100% vg, if there is no pg in it, it's diluted with water or pga(pure grain alcohol). Vg is sweeter, but mutes the throat hit and flavor. Vg produces more clouds of vapor. The thicker the juice, the more your carto will clog up and the harder it is to wick. Depending on the company you are using, the prefilled will most likely have 90% pg. there are a couple of companies that sell 100% vg, but personally I would not buy those prefilled. The prefilled cartos have a tendency to only be halfway filled. If they are using 100% vg, the juice is thicker so the carto will not last as long and will be easier to burn. Personally, I like 70pg/30vg

Check out the Phoenix cartomizer from gotvapes. It is like a carto but with no filler. If you like the connivence of cartos, then you will love them.

You can check out Vapedudes.com for juice. Their prices are cheap and their juice is awesome. They have a Facebook coupon for a free bottle, shipping included. In addition, they have a 40% off coupon. With the coupon, you can get 10ml bottles for about $3. They allow you to customize you pg/vg ratio too.

Partially wrong. PG allows more of the throat hit to come through and allows more of the flavor to come through. VG allows more visible vapor. PG itself does not create throat hit.

Thanks, I forgot to put the flavor thing in my post.

Juice Components
Flavoring usually 10%
PG enhances TH, lung hit and flavor- water like
VG= vapor and can mute flavor- very thick
Nicotine= TH, lung hit and our need for nicotine- Is the most important ingredient in regards to TH and lung hit.
Many, including myself, believe PG is not TH but a mild irritant. Some also have an allergy/ sensitivity to PG so they vape 100% VG or add PGA or distilled water to thin it out so the thick VG will wick better.

Is there a difference in vapor, flavor and throat hit between the PG based vs VG based juices? Is one favored over the other for what ever reason?

As a first timer with this, the convenience of pre filled will get me started. Blending and loading carts will come later, just trying to get some ideas. Yes, I did order up a mini kit. Should arrive tomorrow. The thought that pre filled are only half filled is disappointing. I ordered like 15 carts, so maybe I will be going a little while. Thanks for all the info, I need to know some of this as I move forward.

Don't be intimidated by refilling. It's really very very easy. I used prefilleds for a while, and when I finally got tired of the same flavors everyday, I ventured into refilling. I thought it was going to be a major pain in the .... It was SIMPLE. There are a couple methods, and honestly, they all work. Just do a youtube search, and don't be afraid to try it.
