I just bought my first rba. an AGA W. Broke it out, watched a couple of YouTube videos, rolled the wick and set it up.

Tested it and COULD NOT get it to fire evenly. I followed the YouTube instructions carefully. Can not get it to fire past the first two raps of wire. I rapped the coil 5 times. I "played" with the wire a while but to no avail?

is it patience or persistence that I need now?

All the youtube videos on the internet could noy help me lol I learned through trial and error and I think that troal and error is the best way to learn and develop your own yup your own style of building a coil and finding that right ohm that fits you .

For me it took 3 months to get to my genny sweet spot .... Yup 3 months first I tryed 32g 2ohm on mesh 28 on mesh 30 32 and 28 on silica 2 &3 mm witch was really hood actually after the first month and a half I found that I liked 28g kanthal 5/4wrap micro coil around 3mm silica in my genny for 1ohm exacty finnaly it tasted right and I was happy and I vaped like that for a month . Now I experimented with ss rope and found I like 3/32 ss rope with a small 400 mesh diaper and a 5/4 wrap even spaced for 1.2 ohms

So there you go give it time ... It took me three months to find only 2 setups I can vape from a genny a 28 g 1ohm micro around 3mm silica and a 28 g even spaced 5/4 around 3/32 or 1/8 ss rope with a 400 mesh diaper . Thats it man to me any other coil just taste burnt or metalic or wont cut it .

I had an easer time with rdas because for some reason any old coil will vape as long as its wet and not shorting out lol and they are good practice for rba building .

I personaly think it may take you a few months of building coils trying them out and tering them appart everyday for you to find a particular setup that makes you go .... Ohhh wow mmmm this it what its suposed to taste like !

Dont get frustrated man buy an igo and try your skillz out with that first and then aply what you have learnd to your genny . Dont be scared to build your genny with silica eather I find it is a very nice vape big clouds but slightly muted flavor . Good for those rich creamy vapes . Mesh brings out the notes in friuts and sours . I build my genny ether way now depending on whats in the tank .

Try 28 g kanthal it os verry heavy duty and ss rope the thixkness of your wixk hole then wrap a diaper of mesh around the top sticking out .

The ss rope makes wraping mesh real easy and saves money . You can buy one sheet of mesh and cut it into three strips and cut those three strips into six diaper wraps . So you get six fresh wraps from one small sheet of mesh that would yeald one mesh wick . a single piece of ss rope will last for ever literaly . All you do is wash it then burn it on the stove then rinse and your clean and good to go it never needs to be replaced . 28 g wire will stand up to a lot of abuse trust me I have been useing the same ss rope diaper and coil for 5 weeks lol all I do is unscrew the botom leg then lossen the top leg the carfully slide the wick coil and all out the wick hole wash it then burn it over the stove then rinse it and slide it back in the wick hole and tighten down the botom leg the reatach the top leg then test fire adjust if nessasary and I am ready to go again same wick coil and all . Nothing wasted and no need to build a new coil.

If I am not changinh flavors and just want to clean my coil I just pop the top cap drain the tank and run the coil under water then dry burn and rinse . Then refill the tank done .

Once you got a good coil its best to keep it as long as you can.

There is no magic way to build these as far as I have been able to find, it is just trial and error. Following the videos will help give you the basics. The problem is that there are so many combinations of wire and wick that there isn't one correct way.
The best way with any RBA is try lots of combinations.

If you are only getting 2 coils glowing then the others are probably a bit tight against the wick. It is just a case of fettling till you get it right or break it then you can start again! Eventually you will be able to build a good coil in seconds.

Thanks everyone! So I took a couple of my EVOD coils and thought i would see if I could make that work as a start. i used 28g Kanthal and the 3mm silica wick i bought, did a three/4 wrap, no flavor wick and wow! It was a totally different vape than what came on them.

I then tried my RBA again and while it was better, still not the vapor production I would like from it.

I think it will come to me at some point and practicing on getting these EVOD coils perfect will help me understand how to build the perfect wick/coil for my RBA.
