There is no doubt a learning curve. There is a woman on youtube, who I like, and I bought exactly the kit she recommended (which I paid about $70.00 for and you can now get for about $38.00 - cringe). It had two 650mAh standard eGos and the old atty/cartridge system. It was super easy to use. When I got comfortable with that, I started adding clearos; I then got a 1000mAh battery for more power and a vivi mini nova. And then, my drip tips started melting, my clearos etching and the nova tube melted. I had no idea that some e-liquids are incompatible with polycarbonate & acrylic (that's why you see me repeatedly post about that issue on new member threads). Due to the juice problem, I had to switch to carto tanks, which a very kind member walked me through how to put together. I then got Twists. At first I didn't see the benefits, mostly because I couldn't taste very many juices, but when I started to, I fell in love with the Twist. I've also gotten some other types of clearos, tanks, etc., but that was just out of curiosity.
The point of this long post, is that I don't feel any of the steps were wasted. If I had come on here first and a Twist and vivi nova had been recommended to me, I think I would have been smoking cigarettes while reading the forum trying to figure out how to use them. And if I only had a vivi nova, I would have wasted a lot of juice when I filled up a tank, only to discover I didn't like it. People offer suggestions (very good ones, btw), because they don't want you to spend the money we did while learning. But sometimes starting small can be just as effective, if not more so, than starting with "The Best." I still use everything I bought, since I find some more useful in different situations. Getting off of tobacco is the main thing to think about, and any money not spent on tobacco is a savings.
