Hi All!

My first post, and also new to the vaping world.

So long story short, I have been a smoker for about 12 years, and looking to give up.
I am very fascinated with vaping and want to explore this option and want to build my own PV.

I'd like your thoughts if I am missing anything before I order. I've read that Carto tanks have been arguably the most pleasurable, as I truly want the most efficient but less hassle-free build. Note I'm not necessarily going to buy here, but just as a reference point.

E-Cig Battery
$19.89 eGo-V v2 Mega Variable Voltage 1200mAh Rechargeable Battery for E-Cigarette at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping,

Carto Tank Kit
$10.77 Splash Anodized Glass Carto Tank Kit (6.0mL) - 1.8ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping,

Is there anything else I require with the build, and accessories for maintenance etc, besides the flavoured juice and nicotine liquid?

I really appreciate your input.

Cheers
Michael

Right, thanks for that. I might try 2-3 flavours and see what I can experiment with. Found some with 18mg of Nicotine.

Just to be double sure, can you guys please confirm that the carto tank kit I'm buying matches the cartomizers on 2nd link?
And how long does each cartomizer last until I have to replace one?

Cartotank Kit
$10.77 Splash Anodized Glass Carto Tank Kit (6.0mL) - 1.8ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Cartomizers
$9.93 Pre-Punched 510 Tank Cartomizers (10-Pack) 10-pack - 1.8ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Thanks for your patience.

besides the extra tanks and carto's you will want an extra battery or 2 and for back-up in case something breaks. When ordering from fasttech you can expect wait times of 2 weeks to 2 months depending on availability and how long it takes to get to you once it ships. extra's are always important as going without usually leads to reverting back to smoking.

Yes, those are the correct cartomizers for that tank.

Depending on the e-liquid you're using, you can expect a range of 10 to 30 ml of life before the cartomizer gets gunked up and needs to be replaced.

One thing, the cartomizers can be re-used by boiling two to three times (to remove the gunk) and then allowed to air-dry for a few days, but there is a possibility of flavor carryover (especially with stronger flavors, like cinnamon or clove, for example), and there will be a point where it simply won't work properly anymore.

(I did purchase one of those tanks about a month ago, it's really not a bad tank).

Micdeez,

I smoked 1pack/day for 20 years, from age 15-35. And for a year I made my own analogs with an electric machine and my own blend of tobacco. They were good smokes, no awful store bought taste.

Three weeks ago I got an eGo Twist starter kit and never looked back. If I can quit I know you can, and your partner as well.

I would skip the egos and go straight to Innokin iTaste v3 with Mini Protank 2 on top. This sets you up with the same features as the bigger units, in a portable package with a low cost of entry.

Quick edit: Fasttech may be a good vendor for you considering they are not so far from Oz. Just be certain that the item you add to cart is labeled as "Authentic".

Yeah I wasn't planning to buy from there, it just seemed like they carry a wide range of stuff.

Agree with carrying spares. Is there a reliable site that ships to Australia that you can recommend?

since you are in Sydney, you should check out Steam-e-cigs

ive bought a few things from Max (the guy who own the shop) when he would go to the parklea markets.
they just opened their own store and they have a good selection and price for starter kits

instead of you waiting for something in the mail you could go in and actually see and feel the devices first hand and get some advice from them. in my experience they were quite helpful.

hope this helps

Hi porkchop, we've been rolling our own tobacco for a good 6 months now and enjoy it. Having to manually do it was meant to be a step on cutting back but the habits are still there.

She's tried the e-cigs before, but I think the disposable ones and didn't like it. Obviously doesn't know the advanced ones that can be modded with tanks etc.

Thanks for the encouragement. I want to quit the analogs which mentally is a good start.

Great link, cheers.

I'm sure the prices won't be as cheap as online, but it's nice to know I can get some knowledgable service.

Hey guys, I did a little more searching and came up with these options for the battery:
From what I understand, the Joyetech eVic has a removable battery, whilst the Vamo Mod is body only and I would need to source the rest. Is a removable battery "harder" for a newbie?

Which do you think is the better value one if they had the same complete "kit"?
I'm of the opinion that buy relatively expensive and cry once? :p

Vamo VV/VW Mod V4 AU$59.95
Stainless Steel VAMO VV/VW Mod - Body Only

Joyetech eVic VV/VW Starter Kit (OLED looks awesome!!).

My personal preference is to buy bodies only and source the batteries and charger myself, because sometimes the batteries and chargers included in kits are sub-standard.

The eVic and the Vamo both use a "removeable battery" 18650's i think.

Based of the prices from Steam-e-cigs | Home page

you can get a good charger, the Nitecore i2 or i4 for $25-30 respectively, the batteries will sent you back between $12-13 each (Sony VTC4 and Panasonic 18650). so if you got the vamo and sourced the batteries and charger separately, you will still be spending roungly the same as the eVic kit but getting a better quality charger and battery. IMO

as for being harder, it isnt, all you do it remove the battery when it needs a charge, charge it and put in a fresh one in.

Plus side to a removable battery is that you can buy more than one, charge one while using the other, and not have to switch an entire battery setup, just the battery itself. I use (what I believe is called) a tube mod. It holds 800-2000mah batteries. I simply have my 2000 charging while using my smaller 800 and vice versa, rather than for say, having two ego-twists and switching them. Replacement removable batteries are also cheaper, and the setup is usually a bit more durable also imo

I've broken 3 batteries, all I believe were 1200mah ego-twist batteries, just from them being in my pocket and squatting to lift something off the ground. So, not hard to ruin your day if your out somewhere without a spare.

Mikey, it's posts like yours that convinced me to spend a bit more for the removable style battery mods rather than the twists you highlighted.

I mean, I'm still smoking and had a heavy night last full of the analogs, so whilst I want to quit, I still depend on cigarettes. Having that spare battery itself will potentially save me from the urge to go back on it, especially the first month of my quitting stage.
