New to vaping but went straight to mods and RBA's

Hi guys this is my first post here.

So I've been smoking analogs for 10+ years, I've tried many times to quit but never lasted more than a week. Then I tried some cig alikes my friend brought from the Netherlands, they were ok but they couldn't really replace analogs for me and they tasted horrible : (

After a bit of research ( this forum is a treasure for info for newbs like me) I decided, what the heck, I'd jump straight to the good stuff.
Because I was afraid of the many things that could go wrong with some cheap Chinese mods ( horror stories of battery exploding etc)
i bought some expensive kit to be safe ( I hope) .
My equipment now is
Mod : joyetech evic supreme black
RBA : kayfun lite v2 clone also black. I wanted something simpler like a nautilus but they were out.

the guy that sold them to me was kind enough to show me the basics of building the coils, making a cotton wick etc
The juices I got was great, mothers milk from suicide bunny, and king's crown. All with 12g nic content

its been 4 days since I bought it and I haven't smoked an analog since, I'm still experimenting with my build, I still get dry hits often but improving.

Its been a great experience so far but I still got a lot to learn
I hope to get some tips for my build from the veterans :vapor: My coils seem to be always on the high ohm(2.1-2.6) and never a big cloud

Nice work in avoiding going the route that most of us waste money on (cig-a-like --> Ego + cheap tank ---> Spinner + ok tank ---> Good Kit).
I wish I had done that...

Anyway, as you state, your ohms do sound a bit high, I think you might be using a too high AWG coil (or too many wraps).

30AWG or 28AWG is good for Kayfun builds (in my opinion), 6 -8 wraps giving between 1.2 & 1.8 ohms.

I think you made a good choice I basically did the same thing and went straight to rebuildables. I would recommend a 2mm-2.5mm coil with 28 Guage 8-10 wraps starting out should get you in the 1.2-1.5ohm range. As far as the cotton and getting it to wick right without dry hits when you thread the cotton through you want it to be snug but not tight try to keep your wick the same diameter as the coil where it hangs down to the deck try to get it to where it just touches the deck and doesn't bunch up and I would say you don't want the wick taking up more then 1/3 of the space on the deck.

Wiz me too, a friend had quit smoking and took me to a local vape shop and the guy rigged me up with a Nemisis mod and Russian Kayfun clone I love it for sitting around the house. And same as you started me off on "Mother's Milk" ...if you love that..try Five Pawns Queenside and Frankenvape by the Standard, they're three of my faves.

I got some of the eGos and other stuff for on the go...

congrats on the quitting the smokes!

Thanks WillyZee and Fisheeboy, I'm glad I bought the evic since it seems to be quite featured, it can read the ohms, but I'm considering getting a meter anyway so I can have a steady place to build the coils.
yesterday the ohms wasn't reading and it turns out I shorted the coil, thankfully it has circuit protection so it got detected and didn't go off when I pressed. Still made me nervous though.

What kind off bugs me was the firmware update, I thought I had to upgrade so I downloaded the desktop app and upgraded, when it was finished the evic just went off... I thought I bricked the thing, turns out the firmware was for the old evic, I quickly tried to reset the firmware back to 1.0, my PV almost gave me a heart attack:facepalm:

First thing you've got to figure out is the dry hits problem.

Lots of people here with kayfun experience to help with that.

As far as ohms go, since you can adjust on the evic side, it doesn't matter much.
But the advantage of a rebuildable like the kayfun is you have much more space than like a nautilus, so you can use bigger wire which will last longer.
For those commercial coils, they use 34, 32 and 30 gauge kanthal. For rebuildables, alot of people use 28 gauge.

Welcome to ECF and congrats on getting some very good starting gear.

The only way to get a warmer vape with a mechanical or other type of non-regulated battery is by using lower oHms. However, your eVic electronically boosts the battery's power so you can adjust the power on your eVic rather than building lower oHms to get a warmer vape.

Also, low oHm builds draw higher amps than higher oHm builds which drains your battery faster. You can also use thinner wire for your coils which heats faster. Most people are happy with Kayfuns built built between 1.5 and 2.0 oHms on VW devices so there is no reason to sweat building lower oHm coils.

The dry hits you are getting means that the wicking is not keeping up with the power you are using. A Kayfun isn't meant to be a cloud machine but poor wicking also decreases vapor production. It is possible that you are choking the wick by using too much cotton. You just want to use barely enough cotton so that there is only the slightest bit of resistance when you pull it through the coil. The cotton will expand when you put juice on it and make good contact with the coil.
