The two biggest questions you need to answer are these two:
How important is it that you e-cig be the same size as a cigarette and do you feel that you can learn to drop liquid into a small container?
The larger the battery, the better your chance to quit smoking. The cigalike batteries only last 3-4 hours between a charge, so you need at least 3-4 of them to last you a day. This gets tiring to change between batteries all day. The smaller batteries are also severely restricted in the variety of juice carrier devices that they use.
The larger batteries (about the size and length of a long cigar) are call eGo's, and are much more convenient if you can get over their size. They can last 7-13 hours between a charge, so you only need 2 of them to last the day. ( You need at least 2; one as a backup and when the other is charging). These also have a better selection of juice carrying devices to put on the batteries.

Size comparison: cigarette with two cigalike sizes, and three ego size batteries.
I highly recommend the larger batteries. I put together a starter setup for a couple of new vapors in the following link. They are the eGo that everyone will likely recommend to you here, and these have variable voltage:

I already listed two juice carrying devices that I recommend for a beginner in the link. But just to learn what else is commonly used by others is listed in this picture dictionary I made:
