I got my first e-cig about a month ago. I was a 25+ year smoker, more than a pack a day, patch didn't work, gum didn't work. I tried a few brands of disposable e-cigs and they did nothing for me. Was going to grab a Blu kit at Walgreen's one day, but figured I'd better do some research before I spent 50 bucks or whatever on their starter kit, and am so glad that I did. After about a week of reading the unbelievable number of reviews and information I found online (and in the meantime trying a buddy's Blu and being glad I'd saved my money), I pulled the trigger and got a Superior Ego Starter kit from Apollo. It's about the size of a sharpie, maybe a smidge bigger, but honestly I got past the size thing in like a day, because it was the only thing I'd tried that still felt like smoking, and really if it doesn't FEEL like smoking, who cares if it looks like a cigarette? With all the mods and stuff I'm reading about on here and other places, the gadget guy in me is all excited to delve in, but if really what you want is something hassle free, easy to use, and most important, does what it's supposed to and feels like smoking, based on my experience, skip the fake cig stuff and get an Ego kit. I haven't had a cigarette since I got it, and haven't wanted one.

Welcome to the forum! I recommend getting an ego starter kit. Myvaporstore.com has a really nice ego twist kit that comes with 2 batts, 2 clearos for your juice, & a charger. I smoked Newport's so I recommend getting your juice at either 24mg or 18mg if you smoked a carton a week. What juice you like will be the hardest part. It's best to order small bottles from several vendors if you can. I started off with a juice called Newpark menthol from myvapesales.com. It was the closest thing I could find so keep in mind that no ecig will taste exactly like a cig. Luckily it seems that most of us menthol smokers don't vape menthol for too long.

Thanks for this post - ex-menthol smoker here as well... 3 days "clean." I smoked Marlboro menthol 100's (black pack most recently due to the lower price), but my favorite cigarette was Benson and Hedges Menthol. I heard from someone that Aroma e-juice makes the best menthol juice for those seeking a menthol vaping experience as similar to cigarettes as possible - a juice called "Menthol P-38 WTA" which incorporates the taste of tobacco as well...? Any experience with this?

Congrats! I never tried it but someone did reccomend Aromas to me when I first started but I held off on buying because someone also cautioned me not to buy too much menthol juice because I probably wouldn't vape it very long. They were right. I vaped menthol for about the first 2 weeks & never touched it again. Ive never liked tobacco juices. I tried a few & all ilI can say is personally all I thought was yuck! lol Went straight to fruity & bakery juices. Sorry I wasn't much help but I do know that Aroma receives lots of great reviews from other members here!

go to FastTech - Gadgets and Electronics
go to consumer electronics, then e-cigarettes

you'll see alot of toys you can use as your first, now depending on your budget, and how you want to start, the higher you spend, the better your equipment will be.

there's the

Vamo vv/vw - Lavatube - GS Sub 2.0 kits - prices ranging from high $50s (stainless steel/chrome) - $40 (regular steel)

with this, you need batteries, and a charger. you can adjust the voltage, you can check how many ohms your cartomizer is, you can check your battery life, you can change your wattage.

Itazte mvp, Ego twists - $45 to high $20's

with this, you dont need anything. it comes with the cable charger, you can adjust the voltage, you cannot check however your ohms and you cannot check your battery life, you cannot also change the wattage.

Joye-ejoye-joyetech,Egos, - $5 to high $30's on depending where you buy (online or your local brick and mortar)

with this, you dont need anything. it comes with charger. you cannot adjust voltage, you cannot check your ohms, you cannot do anything else. it's just a simple push, (or in some cases just inhale) a button and you're vaping. just make sure it's charged. batteries range from 400 mh (lowest) to 1200 mh (more vaping time)

____

Clearomizers/ atomizers/ Cartomizers/Rba's

go to fasttech and you can get the

Iclear30 - Clearomizer - $9 - Dual coil clearomizer (it has a plastic tank that holds the juice) - wicking technology, where the wick absorbs in all the ejuice.

Iclear16 - Clearomizer - $4 - smaller version of the Iclear 30. (it has a small plastic tank that holds half the juice Iclear30's does) - wicking technology, where the wick absorbs in all the ejuice.

Protank - Bottom Coil Clearomizer - $10-$16 - this is a clearomizer with a glass tank (instead of the plastic) that won't interact with acidic/cinnamon/lemon juices. It's also a bottom coil, where the coil is on the bottom, and it provides a cooler vape, but the clearomizer is pretty heavy since it's a glass tank.

RBA dripper - Rebuildable (R-B-A's) dripper - $10 - this is a dripper, with your own wires and meshes and wicks, you can make yourself an atomizer that suits your vaping needs. You probably wont know what to do with this until about your 3rd month of vaping..but RBA's are a totally different ballgame.
You can set your ohms lower than anything else, therefore giving you maximum vapor production if the device you're using pushes high voltage. with Rebuildables, you can get the maximum flavor and vapor production since the wicks you are using would probably be high grade silica, and the wires are Kanthal .28 - .32
ok dont want to get you confused.

Vivi Nova - $8-$20 - standard clearomizers everybody uses. I personally think it's ok.

DCT - Carto Tank, -$10-$30 - these are clearomizers, with a hole-punched cartomizer inside a glass or a plastic tank, depends on which company you choose. They are usually at higher rated Ohms 2.0 / 2.5, or higher, and with these, you can hike up your wattage/voltage in your device to get bigger vapor. Higher ohms means you can inflict more power on it without burning it.

EGo 510 T dripper - Boge cartomizers - Smoktech dual coil cartomizers - $ 5 to $9 for a 5 pack usually, and these are your regulars.
anyways, i have to go now, but that's about the gizz of it..

tag-team someone to finish up with the juice part ? lol :D have a good one guys!

I've bought ejuice from Mt. Baker Vapor for a long time. Since I started buying from there his juice has become very popular with ECF members.
Best E Cigarette | Buy Electronic Cigarettes | E Cig Juice - MT Baker Vapor

Coupon code ecf for 10% off. I suggest getting PG/VG 65/35. PG enhances throat hit and nicotine delivery. Most of the vapor comes from VG. 65/35 is a good balance.

There's a thread here discussing Mt Baker Vapor on the eliquid part of the forum as well:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-liquid-discussion/285341-mtbakervapor.html

You might want to look around the eliquid forum at some of the other vendpors discussed there too. Buy small bottles of flavors - 5-15ml.

That's not a bad kit. What I recommend is getting the Vision Spinners - which are a bot better than the twists. You will see they have a number of mah, e.g. 650mah. 100mah = approx. 1 hour of vaping time.
So a 650 mah is about 6 hours of vaping time.
A 900 mah about 9 hours and so on.

For attachments I suggest trying a Kanger MT3 and an Evod, since you can get two different ones. They are both good, and you can buy replaceable heads for them.

Don't forget you will need some ejuice - Mount Baker Vaper is a good juice vendor. Best E Cigarette | Buy Electronic Cigarettes | E Cig Juice - MT Baker Vapor
Coupon code ecf for 10% off.
When you buy new juice buy small bottles - a lot of small bottles means you are not stuck with a flavor you bought a lot of if you don't like it.

Thanks! I went with your recommendations and also got some ejuice from Mount Baker Vapor! Super stoked to try it all out!

I usually buy from vaporgod.com, but they were closed for the week before the holiday so i ordered from mtbakervapor.com this time. I prefer fruit or drink flavors (except coffee) both companies are good. I found mtbaker's juice a little too thick personally, but it's ok. Also, if you order from fasttech for your equipment, they sell a brand called liqua that I have found to be wonderful considering the price point. I started at 18mg strength and have tapered down to 6, but this is all a mattee of personal preference and smoking habits. I smoked a lot, but I personally didn't need a huge nic amount for long because I think it's more hand to mouth at this point for me. I'm sure I wouldn't have done so well starting below 18 though... Nic withdrawal, etc. So I'd probably start there if I had to do it again. I'm fairly new myself so don't know what else to share, but hope this helps.

Oh, and as far as how much, I personally vape 3 ml a day give or take. I've seen people go as low as 1ml or as high as 8ml. Average is around 3/4 i think though. Lots of us vape a lot more than we smoked because of various reasons ie: ability to vape inside, different mode of nic absorption, yummy flavors, etc.

Sounds good. Keep in mind some juice is great to use when it arrives and some needs to sit for at least a few days - what we call steeping. Some tobacco flavors need steeping for a week or so. You can tell by the taste.

Sounds like you needed a less VG then. VG is what thickens up ejuice. I've used his PG/VG 80/20 and 65/35 and found it fine.

Yes, I know, but I'm just pg sensitive enough that I went as high as I thought I could. I love flavors, so I'd def go higher if I thought I could. I've ordered 95%vg from others and not had the issue of thickness like this. Not knocking them at all, will be getting some distilled water and fixing them up a bit probably, because even with only five day steep the flavors are pretty yummy.

If you love it, a couple days or so, if you like it, maybe 4. If you hate it, as long as it takes to pass it on to the next unsuspecting victim. :p

Welcome aboard and to answer your question: wish someone told me. You WILL love how you feel when u find a healthier substitute for smoking. Do some research and look into a mod(a bigger/possibly adjustable battery or e cig) they are a bit bigger but the trade off is more battery life, More durability, and an overall better vape experience.
The only reason I say this is because you can get something that will last you a long time for the same or just a little more than a regular "cig-a-like".

Still not your style? Then read some on here what people are recommending for starters. Some really experienced vapers are STILL using their cig-a-like as a backup for their" old standby" mod.

Hope it helps and congrats on quitting!
