I'm quitting tobacco as soon as possible, and just bought an eGo starter kit from Rawrvapor. I'm a pretty light tobacco smoker, only about 5 or 6 a day, but it's getting way too expensive. I'm excited to start vaping, but also nervous and I have a few questions. I did some browsing on this site before I registered, and I read about how a 50/50 mix contains oil, and that it's bad for my lungs. That kind of scares me, because that's what I ordered. Is there any serious risk to either PG or VG that I should worry about besides a possible allergic reaction? I'm also wondering, will this help me deal with smoker's hack? That seems to be the biggest deterrent to quitting other than having the psychological habit of having a cigarette in my mouth.

Well when u quit completely you will still hack up some crap for a lil while....Look around here and educate yourself a little. But PG/vg is used in foods and medications etc. While not using anything would be best, from what I have read it is relatively safe unless you have allergies. It ain't cigs you know.I ain't a doctor
Vg-vegetable glycerin
Pg- propylene glycol

I have no clue what you read about oil in a 50/50 mix. I would brush that thought aside, honestly.

Some people are definitely allergic or have adverse reactions to PG. VG, in that case, is your only real alternative. Once you really get into vaping, you should notice you have no cough whatsoever. At least that has been my case, and I was a pack a day smoker for 23 years. I can vape all day, and go to bed breathing free and clear. It's ... it's amazing.

One thing you will definitely want to do is keep the nic levels low in your juice. I'd say start at 12mg, and if vaping that gives you headaches or stomach aches, drop the level down even further, or cut your juice. Anyway, no doubt you have a million questions. Good luck in your endeavor.

Hi welcome to ECF and congrats.
Juice Components
Flavoring usually about 15%
PG enhances flavor, TH and lung hit- water like
VG= vapor and can mute flavor- thick
Nicotine- TH, lung hit and our need for nicotine. The MOST important ingredient in regards to TH and lung hit.
Standards in the industry are 80/ 20 or 70/ 30 PG/ VG. I vape 70/ 30 PG/ VG.
I did some browsing on this site before I registered, and I read about how a 50/50 mix contains oil, and that it's bad for my lungs.
All I can say is my lungs and overall health have never been better. My GP, Surgeon and Dentist all support my vaping and are AMAZED at the change in my health. The American Assoc. of Physicians and Surgeons also endorse vaping and state that they see no real harm form vaping. The oils you refer to may come from the flavors. If it's of concern to you I would suggest flavorless juice.
Is there any serious risk to either PG or VG that I should worry about besides a possible allergic reaction?
There are a small number of vapers that have found they are sensitive to PG or VG- PG seems to be the one that causes most problems but it only affects a very few. I myself am sensitive to Ethyl Maltol aka Cotton Candy, the sweetener.

I smoked 1 PAD very strong analogs for 44 yrs...can now swim 5 miles non stop in the Bay. Many other stories of things I'm doing that I could've never dreamed of doing because of my diminished lung capacity.
Good Luck.

Some food flavorings are oil-based. This may be the reference you read about. To the best of my knowledge, none of registered vendors on ECF use any of these flavorings in their eliquid. PG and VG are not oils. According to Wiki - "An oil is any neutral chemical substance that is a viscous liquid at ambient temperatures, is immiscible with water but soluble in alcohols or ethers." This means an oil won't mix with water; both PG and VG mix well with water.

People smoke/vape for different reasons. It seems to me that there are 2 kinds of smokers/vapers - those who are addicted to nicotine, and those who are addicted to having something in their lungs. I can beat simple chemical addiction, I have quit alcohol and various other things that were addictive, but when it comes to the ritual of smoking/vaping then I don't want to quit. I will never quit putting something in my lungs, even if I get down to no nicotine at all I will still be vaping. So if you just want to quit smoking then you can do that a lot cheaper than buying into vaping - just quit. But if you want the ritual, and something in your lungs, and for it to be healthier than smoking, then you should invest in a vape that will satisfy you, regardless of the price. Just my opinion, it helps to be honest with yourself as to WHY you are getting into vaping.

That's exactly why, it's like a ritual for me. I find myself smoking while doing almost everything, watching tv, playing videogames, after I eat, when I wake up... I don't mind sticking with vaping, it's healthier and it seems less expensive. Even after I kick the nicotine, which shouldn't be hard since I'm a light smoker, I'll probably still do it as an occasional hobby if I really enjoy it. That's why I didn't go all out and buy a whole bunch of stuff right away other than a starter, just in case it's not for me.
