Hey everyone. New to ECF, and vapingaltogether. I always kind of didn't understand what the hype was about and thought vaping was kind of lame. I've been a smoke for 12 years straight and until two weeks ago was smoking 1 pack a day, sometimes more. I'm happy to say I picked up a clk 1280 and a tank after having a sudden interest in vaping and now I'm just mad I didn't start a long time ago. I just ordered the cool fire iv plus by innokin with isub G tank and a whole range of COILS as well as some different juices. Any opinions or advice would be much appreciated

Welcome and Congrats to setting the Cigs down. Sounds like you made a nice first choices, and time will let you know what type of vape you will be for your taste. I'm meaning if you like flavor, or throat hit, Cloud Chasing. Then you will adjust accordingly. But the main thing is that no matter your future choices they are still much better than Cigs.
Enjoy and I'm sure you will find more options from other members to help formulate your future opinion.
Keep Vaping; Peace

Yes, welcome and CONGRATS!

As to your question, back-ups keep us from buying cigs when our mod/topper breaks.

For juices, there are umteen number of flavors and only your taste buds/system determine if it is good. Just for "plain" strawberry, the 57 different vendors that have a "plain" strawberry all make it their own way. Same with all flavors. So, I take notes. A lot of notes and buy samplers often.

I think many have multiple tanks so they can change flavors quickly without changing the wick.

Have fun. Cigs were boring and vaping is a BIG world.

Hello and welcome to the forum @Sunnyonmahers87. Glad to have you here!

Several tips for you.

Priming a Coil

When you are using a new coil for the first time, the wicks (they are cotton) have to be primed well with juice. If they are not primed well the cotton will burn. Once the cotton is burned the harsh/burnt taste doesn't go away.

To prime the coil, drop 5-8 drops (sometimes less/more depending on the size of the coil head) of juice right inside the coil, another drop of juice in all the holes on the side of the coil. Put the coil in the base.
  • If Bottom Filling - Fill the tank and then screw the base back onto the tank.
  • If Top Filling (some of the newer tanks are top filled) - Screw the tank on the base and then top fill it.
Once you put the tank on the battery give it several unpowered primer puffs. This will make sure the wick is fully saturated.

Rule of Thumb

The rule of thumb for EVERY variable v/w device you'll ever own is the same. Start low power (wattage or voltage), take a draw and bump it up to repeat. If it starts to taste funny, gets too hot or tastes burnt, back it down. Different flavors will have different sweet spots so you just have to experiment.

Charging

Although most regulated mods have over-discharge protection, there are some safety guidelines I like to follow:

1. Always use the charger that comes with the mod/battery.
2. Plug the usb into a wall wart. Plugging it into your computers usb port takes the battery much longer to charge and if the batteries protection fails you could risk blowing your computers motherboard.
3. Don't leave the battery charging when someone is not around to unplug it when it is done charging. I also would not charge it overnight for the same reason.

Nicotine

A "general guideline" for nicotine concentration in e-liquid to the number of cigarettes smoked per day. If you are subohming (resistance under 1.0Ω) cut these nicotine levels by at least 50%.

06 mg = 10 cigarettes or less
12 mg = 20 cigarettes
18 mg = 30 cigarettes
24 mg = 40 cigarettes

eLiquid/Juice

PG = Propylene Glycol - the "flavor carrier" of e-liquid. A secondary source of "throat hit", but not as strong as the nicotine concentration. Some people have a sensitivity or even an allergy to PG. It's very thin.

VG = Vegetable Glycerin - the "vapor maker" of e-liquid. Used as a sweeter in many food sources, and also as a skin emollient. It's very thick. Often labeled just "Glycerin"

PG and VG are often used together in different ratios in e-liquid. For example, a 50/50 PG/VG ratio. Many juice vendors offer a range of different ratios as far as PG/VG.

Different Resistance Coils

Lower Ohm Coils Will:

  • Heat The Coil Faster
  • Produce More Vapor
  • Drain The Battery Faster
  • Use E-Juice Faster
  • Produce A Warmer Tasting Vape
Higher Ohm Coils Will:
  • Heat The Coil Slower, Which Will Produce “Less” Vapor
  • Provide A “Cooler” Tasting Vape
  • Use Less E-Juice
  • Prolong Battery Life
A variable power (voltage and/or wattage) devise/mod is advantageous in being able to adjust the power output to the user's preference. For example, most fruit flavors are best at a lower power setting, while flavors like tobacco or coffee flavors may taste better at a higher setting. However, this is very subjective to the individual vaper's personal taste

My advice would be to keep both your devices handy. I used to smoke about a pack and a half a day. I'm finding that even with my new eGo ONE VT (2300 mah battery and 4ml tank) it's just not enough to get me through the whole day--even though I'm running the 1 ohm Kanthal coil in VW mode.

I usually carry the eGo and a couple of EVOD 650s topped with Mini Davides for backup. Plus, I find it's nice to switch up flavors every now and again.
