New to vaping, need some advice

Hey all,

After 8 years of quitting cigarettes I took them up again about 6 months ago. I am already back to over a pack a day and feel all the worst for it. I am not quite ready to quit but I am looking for an alternative and am fascinated with e-cigs. I've been doing plenty of research.

I have a few questions and I am hoping to get a bit of clarity on them.

1) Can all e-liquids or 'juice' be used with any model of e-cig? So for example if I was to buy Vapor4life's Nobacco juice could I use it with a 510 model e-cig I got from another site?

2) I've heard about some scam sites and exploitative industry practices which seem to be rampant because this is a new industry. What sites should I be wary of? I am considering buying from Vapor4life, Vapor Kings and/or CigEasy. Are these sites legit?

3) I am thinking of buying the Kr808, Joye 510 and 801 models just to vary and compare. Is there a generic charger for these models or do you have to stick with the model specific charger?

4) Okay so this last question is a real long shot. Has anyone heard of a juice for the Mild Seven brand of cigarette?

Yes. There are some ejuices that are 'made for High Voltages' but they still vape in other devices.

2) I've heard about some scam sites and exploitative industry practices which seem to be rampant because this is a new industry. What sites should I be wary of? I am considering buying from Vapor4life, Vapor Kings and/or CigEasy. Are these sites legit?

All are reputable vendors and of course you're going to have some people that have had problems with any vendor but a good gauge (no guarantees though) are the list of suppliers at the bottom of the main page in the 'suppliers forums'.

3) I am thinking of buying the Kr808, Joye 510 and 801 models just to vary and compare. Is there a generic charger for these models or do you have to stick with the model specific charger?

1. Yup. You can even make your own e-juice and use it in anything. The basic mechanism is pretty much the same on all e-cigs, and thus the juice is made to fit this basic mechanism.

2. All the sites you mentioned are legit and well-liked. Be wary of any site which seems to be charging a lot for their products, offers a "free trial," subscription, or makes too-good-to-be-true promises.

3. I am unsure if there is a charger to fit all of those things, sorry. Those are all good models, but the one of those 3 that I have experience with is the KR808, and I love it. It's an excellent starter e-cig, and I haven't touched a cigarette since I got it. I wasn't even really trying to quit - I just don't want one!

Kent gave you great advice, can't add more to that. I didn't know that there was a juice just for high voltage....Hmmm wonder if that's like the jet fuel of vaping?

Oh this is fantastic! I can't wait to get into vaping. I just hope I like it because it would be a massive improvement in health than the cigarettes. I've noticed a marked decline in my health since I took up smoking again and I've only been doing it for 6 months after 8 years smoke free.

I did a search for Mild Seven e-liquid and got a few results. We can't even get Mild Seven cigarettes in Australia so this would be great.

I've been researching e-cigs for a few days now and am excited about trying it. I know it will take a couple of weeks to have my starter kit and accessories shipped to Australia. For now I'll just continue 'smoking'.

I think you would like Australia. As you probably know our government has banned the sale of e-cigs but I believe we are able to import them for personal use. Our government is making way too much money from taxing cigarettes. Their reasoning behind banning e-cigs only exposes the true reason they keep taxing our cigarettes as opposed to their expressed concern for how bad they are for our health.

I keep hearing how people in the USA pay between $6-$8 for a packet of cigarettes. Our cigarettes in Australia now sell for between $14-17 for a pack of 25! Our most recent price hike was a 25% increase. I am spending $100 a week on cigarettes to support a pack a day habit.

I spent some time traveling and living abroad, and that's almost as much as a pack costs in London (London having some of the highest cigarette prices in the world).

I don't know how common this is in Aussie, but I saw it everywhere in New Zealand and Europe and eventually adopted it myself - rolling cigarettes.

Have you considered trying that? It saves you a lot of money, but I'm wondering if there's another benefit.

Rolling tobacco has a lot fewer additives in it. And there's lots of stuff in tailor-made cigs that's addictive besides nicotine.

I was a very heavy smoker who went totally mental every time I tried to quit... but my transition with e-cigs has been pretty easy so far. I'm wondering if part of that has to do with the fact that I smoked rollies only for the past few months.

I don't have any scientific proof to back that up, other than knowing that there's fewer added chemicals in rolling tobacco. It's still bad for you, obviously. But I'm wondering if it does make things easier when you try to quit or transition to e-cigs.

Maybe try that while you wait for your shipments to come in? A pouch of tobacco should last a pack-a-day smoker 5-7 days.

Just a suggestion. Maybe it helps, maybe it doesn't. Maybe e-cigs are just so amazing that it wouldn't made any difference what I smoked, who knows.

Yep, Kent C is the one you can trust here. He always knows the right answers. The only thing I could add to the info you have so far is that if you order a passthrough to save on battery life, never ever plug it into your PC -- buy an AC wall adapter for it. Don't forget to blow the primer out of your atty before the first puff, and you'll be good to go.

And when you start saving on that $100 a week oz prices of butts habit, you can buy all sorts of juices and mods, and ......... . Have fun!!!

Interesting. I used to occasionally smoke a brand of rollies called 'Bank' which is rum tipped. I didn't mind it. I find rollies a bit strong and harsh, even with a filter. I tend to smoke 6 mg cigarettes. I think rollies actually make me feel sicker than tailors but its been 10 years since I've tried a rollie. I might give it a go.

Yeah, I used to get that same feeling with Drum and Norwegian shag.

You do get different strengths of rolling tobacco. The last time I was smoking as Danish bulk shag, which is fairly mild. I also liked Bali Shag (in the US, not sure if they have that in Oz).

I don't know what they have over in Aussie, but I found the orange-label Park Drive in New Zealand to be slightly on the more mild side.

I think I am going to go crazy on different juices and liquids. I could probably spend $300 and justify it! In 21 days I would my money back providing I kicked analogs for good. ha ha.

From my research I think I would like to try a Joye 510 with a Kr808 cartomizer so I might buy both kits and an adapter.

With USB chargers, is that the case with all USB chargers or just passthrus? Why shouldn't they be charged on the computer? Isn't that the whole beauty of having a USB charger?

Yup. That's when I got my Kr808.

I've actually found it shockingly easy. I haven't seriously considered smoking a cigarette since I got it. I've had a couple of mild cravings while drinking, but nothing a few pulls on my e-cig won't fix. I don't even mind seeing other people smoke that much.

I've also gone a bit juice-crazy myself. I bought a bunch of DIY stuff, and I've already made watermelon, waffle, and plum! Haven't tried the plum yet, but otherwise, doing ok so far.

I'm trying not to be too hard on myself - if I really, really want a cigarette and no amount of vaping can make the craving go away, I'll have one. It's a process. But so far, I haven't had a strong desire for one.

That's the case w/all USB chargers -- just use your iPod adapter -- that works for me. If something goes wrong, you will fry your motherboard. You don't want to chance that, do you? There have been ECF members who have been there, done that, ooopsie! And some have plugged them into their ports and have been okay. Do yourself a favor and get yourself and adapter. If you're going to buy all the kits you were favoring, I imagine there will be a USB/AC adapter in one of them.

By the way, your oz dollar is doing really sweet tonight. It went down when the sydney markey opened, then up 75 points when the asian market opened. Dang, I missed that trade. Last I saw the AUDUSD was going strong at 84.450 -- you guys are doing really well over there -- no wonder cigarettes went up there -- they want all your money, LOL.

Hmmm. Interesting. I have been vaping for over a week now and had no difficulty transitioning to e-cigs. However I was smoking American Spirits, which are supposed to be additive free. I wonder if that has anything to do with it, in the same way roll your own does.
