So about two weeks ago I switched from smoking to vaping. I went down to the shop and got a starter kit, and I just recently got a box with all the neat little read-outs (to give you a bit of background). I took some electronic classes a while ago, but all that's stuck is what ohms are. If I seem stupid that's because I am.

I am on a quest for taste (and nicotine), but I want to make sure nothing's going to blow up. I just ordered a Crown subtank (Crown Subtank by Uwell) and I'm not sure that my current battery (2600 mAh, up to 11 watts) can run it. I'm not against purchasing a new battery, and it's not that I don't trust the shop boys, their markup is just insane. I've tried doing some of my own research, but I'm still not sure, so I came to ask people who know a lot more than I do.

I'm happy hitting what I've got now for a long time, but I feel sad not being able to use this nice tank. Also if it's dual coil and each coil is .5 ohms does that make the entire tank 1 ohm? Same with the .25 ohm coils, do they together make a .5 ohm tank?

Thanks

Hi! :)

Is your box mod a known product? If we know what it is it's easy to say what the min/max setting are.

A 2,600mAh battery could be a good one, or a bad one. Does it have a name or any markings?

.. and two coils together make HALF the ohms, not double. Two x 0.5 = 0.25ohms.

The Crown is good. You're going to need a box up to 100w (maybe 75w) at a guess.. it's not really my thing, but people say 60-80 watts seems right.
There may be option to do differently, of course. Some tanks have coils for 15w, some for 100 watts. I know they do 0.15 Ti, 0.25 and 0.5. That covers 25w and upwards, usually.

Hello koru.

You did not tell us enough information to be helpful.

You said you got a Crown tank but did not specify anything other than a 2,600 mah battery.

Is it a regulated battery or mech mod. What is the top wattage. If you got an IPV D2 it may be perfect with top wattage of 75 watts. If it is a Coolfire4 and top wattage of 40 watts it would be insufficient. You didn't even say if the modf had 510 threads for the Crown to screw into.

Hi and welcome. The Crown is a nice tank. To make full use of it, however, you will probably need more than 11 watts. The 1.2 ohm coil is rated 10-30 watts so 11 watts is at the very bottom of the scale, and it's going to be for mouth-to-lung hits and not big on vapor production. The Crown also has a nice selection of Temperature Control coils, which I don't think you can use at all. Let me suggest you look into an iStick 40TC battery (mod) or the Evic VT (fixed battery) or VTC (removeable battery) which goes up to 60 watts, if memory serves. Those are solid beginner's rigs and should pair nicely with your Crown. They both also have TC so you can try that to see if you like it. One caveat: subohming is different, as has been said. It makes more and warmer vapor. You'll use more juice and you'll probably have to cut your nicotine because you'll be getting a larger dose with each puff.

The istick40tc is a solid device but don't recommend it for TC because in TC it uses the full 40 watts. Very limited battery life in TC.

I would recommend the IPV D2, istick60tc, Evic VTC MINI,or ksnger Subox.

Let me recommend you go all out and start spending. Good batteries for a start. Can't go wrong with Sony VTC4 18650 batteries, you're going to need a few of them. Then a branded charger like Xtar, dual or quad bay.

You will need more than one mod though. Two or three box mods and a couple of decent tube mods, back ups for your back ups !.

The high powered devices, box mods, mainly dual battery devices, are great for "direct lung vaping" where you'd basically just breath the vapour straight to your lungs. These particular types of higher powered devices are used to produce large clouds of vapour.

The tube mods are best for what's known in the vaping community as "tootle Puffing" or what i just refer to as "tooting". It's more commonly referred to as "Mouth to lung vaping". So you'd draw the vapour into your mouth, first sage, and then inhale into your lungs, second stage, and is more like the smoking style people are familiar with.

Provari 2.5 tube mod with a Russian 91% RTA. Perfect for "Tooting".

Provari with an authentic Kayfun V4 RTA. Again used for tooting.

IPV4 box mod with a Zephyrus RTA quad coil assembly, 0.18 ohm's.

Quad coil assembly in the Zephyrus. For the larger clouds.

Having these different styles of devices keep me off the tobacco, i'll just switch from one style to another, rather than switching from vaping to smoking.

Fairly sure it's the other way round. Two one Ohm coils make a .5 final coil.

But as a new coilmaker you'll be double checking with a meter b4 using, Corrrect?? :)

Crown in Rose gold, but it is to go on a tc mod,Joyetech Evic mini 75 w... My understanding is to get the best out of the subtank it must be a temp control or multiple functions at higher temps, then a straight battery, but again I do not know what you have...
I am looking forward to sub omh vaping for the incredible flavor youcan get out of them...But this is my first voyage so hope that helps or someone more experienced them me can answer...:headbang:
