New to vaping

Hi folks.

Without repeating the stuff I had said in my first post, I'd like to introduce myself and say, as an analog smoker since 1996 (when I was 19, now I'm 32), I had came here to find a different alternative to analog cigarettes.

My friend, who I know from another website, whom is known here as BigJimW, who had referred me to this site (I didn't know what his user name was when I signed up... sorry) through that site in which he gave high accolades of vaping and e-cigs and all the money it could save, especially for myself, even though that the review and recommendation was directed toward the entire audience of that site.

That aside, I have my mind set on the Vapor Options' DSE103 "Sophomore" as my first vaping device. It's within my price range for now, and while other models are not out of the question, and I'm open to recommendations for other e-cigarette models. In fact, I get some money this Wednesday and it won't be a problem getting it by either that Friday or Saturday.

I'm also getting some extra juice bottles and blank carts to hold me over. On Vapor Options' site, I have my mind set on the Red Bull, Camel (since I'm a Camel smoker), Coca-Cola and maybe a few other bottles that may pique my interest, but those three are what I have my mind set on at this very moment.

So, I'm very willing to learn all that there is to know about e-cigarettes and vaping. While I'm pretty new to it all, but I need to stop burning money up by buying analog cigarettes and start vaping... pretty soon. After all, I *do* have a large purchase in mind and if I want to start saving money up for it, this should be a way to go, but I also want to put a better life for me ahead.

That's all for now, I hope to make some friends here.

Cheers,
CasperGhostboy

Welcome Casper, You are in good hands with Vapor Options. They will do right by you!
Your choices in liquid sound good, but do remember that vaping is different from smoking, your tastes will vary in liquids from moment to moment. It's not all tried up with branding like with cigs (marlboro, camel ect.)
I was die hard menthol smoker, I like banana, ry4, chocolate..I could go on and on!
I'll let others advise you on models, I am too new.
Good luck and welcome again to ECF:)

I am not familiar with the model your are considering. Of the discussion I have seen on it, there seems to be a pretty even split between those that like it and those that do not.

Something to consider. All ecigs that "look like" a regular cigarette (we call them analogs) all suffer from the same issue, namely battery life. The biggest favor you can do it realize that if you can get past the need for your ecig to resemble an analog than you will likely find a model that gives you a much more satisfying experience.

That being said, if you do decide to fo with an analog "look alike" you need to have several extra batteries to go with your selected device. Most ecigs come with 2 batteries. you will find that an additional 2-3 batteries is just what the doctor ordered.

As long as you are going to be ordering extra supplies, you should also get and additional 3-4 atomizers. Along with the battery, this is the key component of an ecig. It is not a matter of IF an atomizer will die, but WHEN it will die. Most kits come with only one atomizer (some come with 2). If your atomizer dies, you are out of business and back on analogs quicker than Dumbwaldo can complain.......:D

At a minimum you should alway have 3 working atomizers ready to go. Most people feel more comfortable having 5-6 in reserve.

Also, almost every site will claim that a one cartride = 1 pack of cigarette. This is almost universally 100% NOT TRUE. Most carts are the equivalent of 3-4 analogs. Buying pre filled cart is a much more expensive proposition. You will find that you are better off purchasing eliquid (or juice) and refilling your existing carts. Most starter kits come with only 5 carts. You would be well served to have an addtional 15-20 empty carts on hand. The can be purchased very cheaply for most models. While the carts can be refilled, you will find that over time and after several refills that the wicking material in the carts will begin to degrade. you can either replace the material or just toss the cart and get out some more blanks.

Here are some threads that I highly suggest you take the time to read and view the associated videos. A couple of hours spent here will result in a PhD in basic vaping knowledge

I am new to all of this too. My son purchased a starter kit for me to help me quit smoking the analogs...not sure why y'all call them that though! LOL

I have been ordering up a storm today getting myself prepared to just vape as soon as my orders arrive. The above post was a big help and I thank you for the information you provided. I ordered extra attys and bottles of juice so I can DIY instead of ordering carts.

Thanks for a great forum.

Welcome Casper and Greyeyes! You'll find all the information you could ever need or want here and then some!

There are tons of helpful and knowledgeable members who are always willing to patiently answer your questions (Elendil and Marykay being two of the most helpful and who have helped me as well! :D ) so don't ever hesitate to post a question or jump in on a discussion.

Definitely check out the sites that Elendil posted for you and I would suggest any noobies also familiarize themselves with the SEARCH feature on this forum. Many times a question or a problem you have is a common one that many many other people have had too.

Set aside some time when you can search and browse and read up on the many things that might/probably will come up as you start using your new PVs. I've spent more time reading and learning on this forum than I have actually working since I found this place!

Good luck to both of you! :thumb:

Thank you MaryKay for the warm welcome. Yeah, I do believe that VO would do right by me, after all, BigJimW told me about the place on another site that he and I are members of. (Truthfully, this is only the second web forum that I really joined and plan to be active on. Others I might join and then post a few times, then just up and leave if I find it dull and uninteresting.)

Thank you Elendil for the videos, and the information that I needed to know for successful vaping. So, I will do right on my first try and buy a couple extra batteries, attys, carts and suchlike so I don't have to go back to analogs quickly. I'm also getting a USB passthrough battery so I can vape in front of my computer. (I'm just hoping it works in Linux because it is pretty picky about what USB devices are connected. If it is just a 5V power only, then that's okay, but if drivers are required, then I'm in deep doo-doo.) In fact, I am getting tired of having to go to the street whenever I'm at a local hospital for an appointment (in fact, almost all of the hospital campuses [all Sentara] are tobacco-free campuses, DePaul and Chesapeake General aren't, because they aren't Sentara hospitals) to go light up an analog, usually at one of them, most notably Leigh and Norfolk General, are pretty large campuses in total acreage and I'd rather not go out to either the office buildings next to Leigh or to US 58 next to Norfolk General to light up an analog. Yeah, I know that vaping is pretty much alike to analog smoking, so either Sentara, EVMS (Eastern VA Medical School) or CHKD (Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters) (those three entities are on the Norfolk General campus) security may be alerted that I might be smoking and be told to go off-campus and "smoke," but there is no secondhand smoke or unsightly .... that I have to extinguish, but I might have to explain what I am doing, which I don't mind.

So, that aside, I plan on having numerous attys and empty carts, and bottles of e-juice handy so when the need to vape comes up, I'd be ready. Also, I'm going with numerous e-juice suppliers so I can have a good selection of flavors handy.

But now for an apology. If I sound like a clueless newbie at first, I deeply apologize, and my style would be getting better as soon as I learn the ropes of how the whole community is, start learning how the vBulletin software is set up for this site (I know phpBB and YaBB, two forum software on two forums I am a member of, one I am more active on) and where I need to go, what I need to do and whatever else. Just to let you guys and gals know, I adapt to a new community fairly quickly.

And to the two who posted while I was writing this reply, I'd like to say hi to Greyeyes and right now I'm in the same boat as you right now and thanks for the welcome Speedikeys.

Cheers,
CasperGhostboy

And you should be sorry too, asking all those legitimate questions and making us waste our time answering them. :D
