New to wrapping coils, OHM inconsistencies.

About a week ago I went to my local B&M, and had them teach me to wrap coils, since then I've removed the "training coils" they helped with with and started wrapping my own. I've been using the calculator:

That I found via Google (Also seems to be suggested here) and I enter the specs I am using, but I get some really off I calculated for a 1 ohm dual coil and got a .5 ohm dual coil, so I tried calculating for a 2 ohm dual coil (thinking it would split in half) and got .5 ohm again. I guess I need more practice? I'm using 24g A1 Kenthal, using a 1/18 drill bit. I've got a .5 build in right now and its working fine but I do want to try to shoot for 1 ohm just so I can get my coils consistent.

I know it's not the nicest and not all tight (near the back of one of the coils) but it tastes great and was firing in sync from the inside out. I also calculated this one to 1 ohm and it came out to .5 ohm as well :\.

Also been watching rip tripper to look at how hes doing it but he seems a lot more knowledgeable about wraps and how what ohm it should come out to.

On another topic, whats the best place to buy RDAs and Box mods? I bought my setup from a local B&M and wanted to grab a box mod from them but I've heard bad things about box mod clones and the chips being of low quality and causing issues? Is this true? Is it safe to buy one as long as it's watched? If so what do I need to watch for with a clone box mod that sets off a red flag?

there are 4 variables to making a coil, wire dia. ( gauge), # of wraps, dia. of the shaft used to make the coil on, ohm rating of the wire. If you make a single coil it will have a certian ohm rating dependant on the wire size, number of wraps, and dia of the shaft. Wire size pretty much sets the ohms per inch rating... if you build 2 coils and put them in parallel ( as in the picture you supplied) the ohms will be 1/2 of the single coils ohms due to the coils being in parallel.

If you want to get a total resistance of 1 ohm (as measured by ohm reader) you need to wrap 2each 2 ohm coils. Your Steam Engine Calculator will tell you how many wraps each coil needs to be (approx 13-14 wraps for each coil based on the information you provided).

Looks like you make 1/2 the number of wraps you should have.
