Ok, never had this happen before so I'm sure there's got to be user error..or not. I just did a "clean up" of all my tanks, refilled some, changed others and so on.

I open a brand new 3.0-3.2 ohm for one tank that was already washed/cleaned out and then opened a brand new tank/coil for another flavored. These are regular Tritan tanks BTW, not mini.

Filled both w/fresh juice, both of which have been steeped, shook the bottles vigorously and both flavors are my normal juices. i let them sit in the tanks for around 25-30 minutes, rotate them around to get the wicks wet. Like I always do and has always been fine.

BOTH tanks have the same strange taste..like plastic or chemical. I can't describe it and its not very pleasant to vape. I'm assuming its either the new wicks, the tanks themselves or the drip tips. I usually don't wash out new tanks, tips and wicks but if this is what I need to start doing, someone let me know. Again, besides getting a burnt taste when I first vaped, this has never happened before.

I also did 5-6 quick cigar primes trying to get the wicks soaked up and I usually do this technique and it always works. And in case you're wondering, no, it's not vapors tongue..thank GOD! I did try some other tanks i just topped off and left in the same tanks and they tasted fine.

So Halo peeps..words of wisdom? What's up w/my juice/tanks? :blink::glare:

Sounds like your new tanks, and/ or the coils were cleaned with some cleaner at the factory or something. I'd soak everything in 70-90% isopropyl/rubbing alcohol from Walmart, if you don't have some at home. I am sure that Vodka works just as well. This should get rid of that nasty taste that you are experiencing. Good luck!

If this is true, dang...wish Halo could do a rinse method prior to packaging. Yucky taste. Good thing i know what these juices taste like. A new person would think it was the juice!

May have to try that wash you mentioned but probably would use like 99% ISO maybe mixed with distilled water. Anything other than that like normal rubbing alcohol I would think would give me even a worse taste than I have now..I don't know.

Have you personally tried this method? Did it work in this plastic taste?

One of my spare Triton tanks tasted a little funny, but I can't tell what the taste was like, it was just weird. But high percentage isopropyl alcohol does normally not leave any tastes, or any other residues behind, and quickly completely evaporates. But you can rinse everything in hot water afterward to wash out all the dirt which the alcohol has killed and dissolved. That's what I do, and still do when I change juices, or when I clean my tanks and coils. Works like a charm.

From my other post on this topic:

OP - Before I start and after I am finished with the clean job I thoroughly wash my hands and clean my work area with strong house cleaner tile/floor/counter stuff. I like to pretend I'm entering an Operating Room given the stuff I clean and kids and pets are not permitted in my space. I hold the wick under hot water and "press" the wick with my pudgy little fingers to squeeze out juice before I start the real clean job. Jef's point is spot on. If the following procedure still wont clean my wick properly or the wick is falling apart then I toss it since the head has a useful life as Jef noted. I clean at least 10 tanks per week because not only am I nut case but I mix DIY.

:)

I use Walgreens denture cleaner which is not only cheap, easy to work with, but more importantly gentle and if the procedure is properly followed leaves zero I repeat zero taste or smell.

- Hot water wash everything. Thoroughly. Inside and out. You better have a screen over the drain or it's byby.
- Dissolve the denture cleaner tablet in a plastic thingy filled with hot water
- Let it sit for about 30 min
- ALL my stuff gets cleaned this way: tanks, glass for mixing, syringes, wicks, you name it and it all sits in my love juice for about 30 minutes
- Then thoroughly wash in cold water. Inside and out. Thoroughly
- Let it dry overnight since I have multiple extras of everything I don't need to use any of the stuff I'm cleaning.

I've tested the alcohol but why bother given the cost and harshness. The flavor wicks (2) in the ProTank 2 are placed in a blue bat case for drying so I can see them and are very delicate. I don't support dry burning the coil because I'm lazy and think it might weaken or degrade the wick which the coil is wrapped around. I respect those that do this but I just toss it if the above procedure wont clean it properly. Just my way and not the only way on this coil issue. Please remember I'm using my love juice potent denture cleaner with syringes which have contained pure nic which at a certain level will kill you or at least make you very sick so I'm confident that even though its called a denture cleaner with the hot water sauna it performs great. Cross contamination is a serious issue and must be avoided at all costs.

HTH

Destroy your juice that was in the funky tasting juice. ONLTY the juice that was in the funky tank. Do not use it. This should resolve the issue. This is SOP for all new Triton tanks and the included assembled head. Subsequent cleaning sessions are done the same way.

Yeah, but had you tried the juice before?

Yep, both juices were fine the other times I vaped them

Ok thx. I guess I've been lucky and never had this strange taste on new equipment. Are you saying then that new tanks/coils all should be cleaned prior to use?

Oooops!
So I screwed up by taking my tanks outta the cellophane from Halo, filling them up, letting them sit for 45 minutes, wetting the wicks and vaping?
I was supposed to soak them, clean them, use alcohol, clean them and wait for them to dry before filling?
For realz?

I'm having a similar problem. I'm getting that horrible plasticky flavor and not much else...Not with the new tanks , but with the replacement coils after cleaning. Check this out:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...play-these-getting-burnt-taste-over-3-5v.html

In the thread above, some of the heads people have are different than Triton heads, wick size etc... but I think the general rules are the same.

I'll start doing these for both new and old heads:

1) Take apart the tank, remove the coil, silicone seal, the small metal tip and the flavor wick
2) Wash everything with hot water
3) Pat dry the wicks with paper towels
4) Put the coil back (without the flavor wick, silicone sleeve and the small metal tip) in a dry tank. Also, don't put the drip tip on.
5) Using the lowest voltage setting, dry burn the coil. Use 2-3 second short pulses until the coil glows orange. Maybe repeat twice for clean coils. If the coil is dark/clogged etc., repeat this until after the black clog turn turns into ash. Take the coil out and blow out the ash stuff.
6) Wash the coils one more time in hot water and dry them 24 hours
7) Take the silicone sleeve and cut out small triangular notches where the wicks meet the coil (both sides). This will help with increased juice flow to the coil. But it might also increase the changes of leaks into the center tube.

I'm about to try step 7) today. I'm still deciding how much of big of a triangle I should cut. I'm thinking just enough so the wicks are "free" without any pinching from the silicone sleeve but also, I won't see inside the tank from through these notches. We'll see how it goes...

I discovered something new. I put juices in the tanks and vaped them little bit. I'm still getting the plasticky tastes. Then when I was cleaning these juices, the whole tank and the wicks smelled like plasticky. I filled up the tanks with water up to 2.4 ml and then I noticed that the tanks leaked down to 2 mL. That got me thinking and checked my Triton VV battery the connector part to the tank. There was blackish gunk in the cavity there and it also smelled plasticky but not as strong as the tank and the wicks. I'm not sure if this is a coincidence but right after I noticed the plastic episode, the battery got completely discharged. Which took me by surprise since it used to last longer. My VV is less than 1 month old. After that whenever I charged the battery it takes longer than it used.

AngiBe, can you please check if your tanks are leaking when you put warm water in them? Also, check the connector cavity of your battery, if it also smells plasticky.

Thanks.
