Hey one and all!

Been unsuccessfully trying to quit for years using various methods including Champix (which made me feel like I was about to have a cardiac arrest!). Have been a long time Marlboro Red smoker, so was unimpressed when I tried an e-cig a couple years back. Just not near enough 'hit'.

Yesterday I decided it was that time again to try quitting, and I have a little more motivation to do it this time (saving money to get a business off the ground), so bought one of the E-Lite 80 starter kits. Whilst it has taken a little of the edge off, its still a very unsatisfying replacement....it feels like inhaling on a foggy day, and if you've ever smoked Marlboro reds, you'll know that aint close to being enough.

So, I put it to you experienced types....which brand should I try that will give me as close to the 'Marlboro experience'. I've read a bit about cartomizers and juice refills etc, and I'm really not bothered as long as the battery lasts the day and I get the hit I'm looking for. I've heard people talking about Titan 510s, Rivas etc....just not sure as no-one seems to be an ex 'red-addict'.

EDIT: Oh, and availability in the UK would be a huge help!

Many thanks in advance :)

Hi DMAudio, Welcome to the ECF. Ok to start i think you are on the right track with heading to the mid size eGo class models like the riva and titan..... But there is also the availability of reasonably priced adjustable voltage which may be a portion of the equation you are missing. As far as available in the UK I know of two first (and my preference) E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings and more specifically this is the device I would point you toward Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - LT VV Yes it is a little larger than a standard eGo unit but with all the benefits with this device the only downside is it is a little larger..... The second UK vendor is Electronic Cigarette | E Cig Liquid | Totally Wicked E Cigs and they offer these three options Variable Voltage Kits .

More Importantly you will need a reliable E-liquid that you enjoy, you will have to search this out on your own, read reviews and descriptions, order small quantities preferably samples until you find one that suits your personal pallet. And I would think that being a reds guy you should consider a higher nicotine(24+?) than you are currently using in your e80 unit. If you have any questions Please Feel free to ask. PM me if you like. Good Luck. Happy Vaping.

wai-eye-man :)

i was a marlboro girl before i started on e-cigs. some of the 'usa mix' e-liquids taste kinda-ish like marlboro, but really - you're not going to find a juice that tastes exaclty like a 'cigarette'. and the more you vape the less important that'll be, trust me.

i'm using the variable voltage ego twist batteries and kanger t2 clearomizers and they've been serving me well. plenty of throat hit if you dial it up past 4 volts or more. the kangers are easy to fill, clean and replace the coil heads. they hold 2.4 ml [i don't fill them above 2.2 or 2.3 though], they don't leak if you don't over tighten anything. or you could try a mini vivi nova, same idea, also works well on ego twists.

i'm in ireland but i buy from uk vendors as well as irish ones and i'll just point out that totally wicked's prices aren't the most reasonable as uk pricing goes, try e-cigwizard or e-smokeireland.eu or thebestshop.eu the last two are irish but both ship to the uk.

as for a juice that gives you the kick you're looking for, try 'el toros cigarillos naturales' by house of liquid - it's very tobacco-ey. very tobacco-ey! not sure what uk sites sell it but i know e-smokeireland does.

and get yourself, if you haven't been there already to igetcha69's site e-cig-reviews.com - loads of reviews and discount codes.

*waves from across the irish sea* :toast:

Hoots! (I'm actually Scottish) :)

Thanks for the welcome and input folks. Having checked out a couple of the suggestions, it's become pretty clear that the E-Lites I can get from my local supermarket are the base line model, and probably only suitable for light smokers I guess. I've checked out a bit of e-cig reviews site and have to say...some of these things look like they're made by NASA! And with the terminology to boot!

So, today I'll spend learning about all these different types of....parts...and hopefully come back with the same conclusions as you good people :)

I thought when I first started that as an ex golden Virginia smoker I would want a tobacco liquid. I soon found once I perfected my set up that I couldn't be more wrong. I never liked menthol smokes, but find myself using it regularly as a liquid. Currently I am vaping a cookie dough flavour liquid. I only use tobacco liquids for when I'm out drinking. Once you have done your research and decided on a kit, buy sample bottles of different liquids and see what suits you.

My usual reccomendation to newbies is to grab a ego twist a cartomiser of your choice to go with it for me with a ego it's the stardusts and find a flavour you like and stick with it for a week attempting to use only that if you last the week cigarette free your twist is already paid for plus it kind of future proofs itself I still own my twist from 6 months ago and dispute owning bigger and more advanced devices still come back to the twist because of the low cost mines seemingly indistructable and should you ever need vv you have the option there

Hi DMAudio and welcome to ECF.
Been unsuccessfully trying to quit for years using various methods including Champix (which made me feel like I was about to have a cardiac arrest!).
Went to see my GP a few days ago and he said he'd never prescribe Champix to any of his clients. The look on his face was one of horror and fear when he talked about the drug. Got back to talkin' bout vaping and he was all smiles
I also agree with Chrissie. The Riva (also known as the Kgo) fires at 3.7 volts and is a solid PV.
Here's a review:

Best of Luck.

Amazing help peoples, thank you so much! I did some more reading and can now differentiate between eGo and 510! I also read a great guide on here about how to actually use the ecig properly....no wonder I was somewhat disappointed with the results so far, given I was trying to puff like I do an analog!

So I can see what looks like a good combo for me would be the KGO featured above, the Kanger T2 clearomizers and I'll get some of that Toros liquid that cloud mentioned. Next question....I cannot find the kit featured above (Hoosier Kgo) anywhere in the UK, and I dont know enough to choose a suitable equivalent. Anyone know a good starter kit like the one above in the UK?

Once again, thanks for all the help. The regulars around here must tire of answering the same questions over and over, but you never show it. What a great community! :D

Yes this link is compliments of Chrissie. A very popular Vendor and Kit in the UK. The Vendor actually asked vapers what they'd like to see in a Starter Kit and this is what Jason came up with. The Kit contains a Clearomizer and cartomizers so you get to try the different delivery systems:
Discount Code: ECF10 for 10% off
The VE Riva 1100 Deluxe Kit £34.95 - Deluxe Vaping Kits - Riva 1100 Kit Electronic Cigarettes | Vaping Devices | Accessories | E-Liquid
I would also add one atomizer to test new juices- easy to clean.
510 Low Resistance Atomiser £4.49 - Vaping Spares - Atomisers Electronic Cigarettes | Vaping Devices | Accessories | E-Liquid
And lastly all you need is juice as the clearo and cartomizers come blank/ empty.
The Best of Luck.

Squeeeee! That looks perfect! Gonna go get that ordered now with some USA Mix (just as I can get everything in one place)

So the ego clearomiser runs at about 2.4ohm and the Boge Standard resistance cartos are about 2.8ohm. If you were a Marlboro "lung bleeder" reds user you might find that power a little on the low side. you'll be vaping at around 5watts on a Kgo type PV running at 3.7volts.

Though suck it and see, if the KGo works for you well then no need to change much :)
I'd lean towards juice that is a little higher in VG with a higher nicotine strength for more vapour production and throat hit. If the stuff you have coming doesn't quite hit the spot for you. Lots of this comes down to personal preference at the end of the day.

If you feel the need to bump up the power after trying the Riva 1100 kit then I'd grab and ego Twist as that will give you variable voltage and should fit nicely with the other bits you'll get in your Riva kit and is £25 from the same website.

Thanks for the advice GingerBread. I'm starting to wonder with all these bits and gizmos and mods and whatnot, this could become more expensive than smoking analog :p It's almost a new addiction building the 'perfect' vape device!

I'll see how it goes with the Riva and the USA Mix. For now, I've spent more than my usual quota for cigarettes, so in the short term at least, what I'm getting will have to fit the bill.

The initial cost is a little high but you will see savings IMO. I've distributed well over 100 Kgos and not a single complaint. As for cartomizers, clearomizers, etc the best ohms for the Riva is 1.7 ohms for a warm vape or 2.0- 2.4 for a cooler vape.
Cheers.
