Thanks. I have 8 of the longer ones, (and perhaps some slipped out the door). I usually charge a set and stick it in the mod before handing them out to friends. The other set and charger I give out is still in original packing.

The easy way to tell the difference (without actual measurement) is that the longer ones have a positive terminal that is more pronounced... protrudes more. There are two vent holes in the positive terminal. Looking at the battery from the side, you can see the entire vent hole on the longer ones. Whereas the hole is partially obscured on the shorter ones.

Also, the long ones seem to have the old comical label. The ones with the better label seem to be OK. Actually, the better label is pretty comical also. More complete warnings, but even more spelling errors. The new label has the Caution Triangle and a recycle symbol on it.

Left, original battery I got a month or so ago. Middle, the longer battery received about a week ago. Right, normal size, new label also received about a week ago.

This looks to me like the difference between the button top vs. the flat top that some batt/manufactures support as a choice.

The button part is actually the same on all three. Its just recessed more on the first and last.

Maybe the mfg just decided to stuff some bonus mah's in there.

Any news on this?

There will be a real fallout from the newer larger size batteries. It will come when people who have made, or purchased, box or tube mods which were just big enough for the old battery, realize that the new larger one will not fit. If all of the manufacturers deviate this far from the size 14500 to a 14540 these mod owners will be seriously inconvenienced or even SOL.

bump. Whats the story?

SO the scoop that I got was that they updated the button on the button tops, unbeknownst to the vendor that I buy them from and anyone other than the manufacturer apparently. But the older style are still available as a flat top, but we know they aren't flat and will be incoming mid next week..

sweet. thanks for the info Mark.

Hmmm.. ok, So I'm in that boat ^^^

I bought a set of these (2 plus charger) from y'all oh, 2 weeks ago, in anticipation of a nicostick I was receiving. Couldn't get the darn batts to fit, so I gave the mod away (he knew the probs).

Now I've got 2 batts and a charger I can't use. :( Do you have the old ones in? Is there any other mod/PV that these newest batts will fit in? will the 14500 charger work on the 10400 batteries?

Help... I'm totally clueless when it comes to these mods  and I hate to have anything go to waste!

Thanks!

I've been talking with ternergy to try and get some batts from them.. Unfortunately no success yet..

They only currently offer 2 protected batteries and when asked what will happen if an unprotected tenergy 14500 is over discharged? The answer was the same as all others, that it could explode or vent..

The old style ultrafire batts will be in soon and problem will be solved with the longer button.. for the most part thay've been really solid with under a 1% DOA rate and even less of a venting/exploding rate.. We just heard of our first the other day and fortunately it was on the charger and no injuries..

I think we may try some protected Trustfires as well as Tenergy's and see how they hold up.. But unprotected is unprotected no matter who makes them.. Only way to get around the problem is to change to a different battery type..
