HI Folks,

I'm brand new to the vaping scene and as of 5 days ago, was a 30 year/pack-a-day smoker. A friend at work was extolling the benefits and virtues of vaping over smoking. So I bought myself a MVP 3 Pro and a couple of iClear 30s tanks to go with it. I'm making out famously with it and no craving for a cigarette! - Damned if I shouldn't have started this sooner.

Anyhow the iClear tanks were rated with 1.8 ohm coils and when I started, the MVP reported 1.79 ohms. but over the last day or so, the ohm reading is slowly lowering and is now reporting 1.73 ohms. Is this normal? or is it a sign that I should be thinking about replacing the coils soon?

Thanks for reading

hi @diggmc. Usually, in my experience, when coils start to get used they ohm reading will rise, from the 1.8 to 2.0 for example. Mass produced coils are not exactly known for their accuracy so I wouldn't be too concerned. Change the coil when the vapor or flavor production diminishes. If you've had the same coil in for 5 days I would guess you're getting close (figure a week to two weeks depending on use, sweetness and color of juice (dark is faster).

You have great starter gear. Congrats on your journey.

Fantastic! Thank you for clearing that up for me.

Welcome @diggmc! Readings on coils will fluctuate a bit. To be quite honest, I don't know if I could tell the difference between 0.2 ohms on any given coil like that. I just know that I'll start getting a slightly burnt taste or I won't get quite the vapor production I'd been getting when a coil is starting to go south.

Congrats to you, and welcome to ECF!

You started with a nice setup.

Thanks @kkiet & @DingerCPA!!

Honestly, I thought I'd over bought but after using this setup for a few days, I'm really enjoying it very much and the fact that I'm off those nasty, stinky cancer sticks with no cravings is a pure joy. Now if only Innokin made a time machine so I could go back 30 years, I'd be golden :)

Congrats on giving up the stinkies. I personally don't think you over-bought on your set up. It took me a bit longer than you to finally give the analogs up. However, once I got serious and also got the proper level of nicotine, I was able to get over the cravings and put them down for good. Now, about that time machine, if you ever do find one be sure to let us know. I think a lot of us would like to turn the time back 30 or 40 years. Again, congratulations and welcome to ECF.

Just a little update about my iClear30s coils.

The MVP 3.0 Pro is a smart little bugger... it'll refuse to fire and will display "check coils" when it's time to replace them. Just for the record, as I originally said, the MVP reported 1.79 ohms when the coils were new (rated as 1.8 ohms), just before I got the "check coils" message they were reporting 1.69 ohms.

The only problem now, is I've got 9 hours before I can get home to put a new coil in... (sigh) it's going to be a long shift here at work!

No worries. Coils will change resistance a little depending on the juice ,temp and gunk in the coil

If the ohms starts making big changes such as 1/10-1/4 if an ohm then you have an issue and should change the coil

OK here's another update on my progress...

I got home this morning and replaced the coil on the iClear30s with a new 1.8ohm coil... and the MVP3Pro still reported "check coil", so I opened my second brand new never used, security code verified iClear30s tank and same result. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the battery to recognize that there was a tank attached. So the tank I've been using for the last week doesn't work, nor do the two extra tanks work. SERIOUSLY FRUSTRATED and seriously jones-ing for Nic!

I headed over to the B&M (180 Smoke, Danforth Ave, Toronto) and told the rep there what the problem was. She kindly tried my tanks on another MVP3Pro and same result, it wouldn't recognize any of the tanks. So she opened a Aspire Atlantis 2 tank and tried it on my MVP3Pro... and that worked. So at least I know it's not the battery with the problem... it appears to be the tanks themselves. Needless to say $90 (got 5 replacement coils for the Atlantis, 30ml more juice and the tank itself).

I'm still scratching my head as to why the iClear30s' did work for the first week and now don't, especially considering the whole setup is all made by Innokin!

Anyhow.. now I need to decide what to do with 3 iClear30s tanks and 14 replace coils (9 @ 1.8ohm, 5 @ 1.5ohm)
