To all of the senior members out there,

I am a Newport 100 smoker and I really want to start on e-cigs as soon as possible. I have done a lot of reading and I need some help making a decision on what model to buy. I've narrowed it down to the following: 510, 401/401, 901, or 801.
What I would like to know is what would be the best model for me in terms of these requirements (in order of priority to me):
1. Throat hit
2. Battery life
3. Vapor production

Also I would like some suggestions on the closest juice to match the Newport flavor. Thanks for any and all help!

Greetings,
I am not a menthol smoker, but when I started I got a 510. I researched here and other forums before making that decision and the manual 510 ws a good choice that I was happy with. It had good vapor and throat hit, it didn't leak and the manual switch worked better for me as a newbie because I didn't have to learn how to draw just right to activate the switch. The carts were pretty big and the battery life was decent.

I don't think you can go wrong with a 510 to start out with and there are many starter kits on sale right now. You can even buy a disposable one (that can actually be recharged like a regular 510) for $9.99 at http://www.madvapes.com/Details.aspx?itemId=510DISP1PKMT, http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...rum/50983-510-disposable-9-99-scandalous.html. They only have menthol in stock right now :)

For what it's worth after a few months I bought a 901, an 801 and a Copper. I still think the 510 was the best one for my first one and I still use it often.

I was a VS 120s menthol smoker for 30 years, pack and a half a day.

I love my M401, but curiosity and a box mod led to my buying a 510. I still prefer a M401 and it is my main vape. But all of the models have people who love them and hate them. It is a matter of 1. PERSONAL preference, and 2. equipment working right out of the box and 3. knowing what you're doing with said equipment. So honestly, if you pick one model at random and read up on it so that you know all of it's quirks, and decide that you can live with that - you're doing okay.

Dekang menthol is ... okay. 20 to 30ml should be a good start. Menthol crystals can be purchased in small amounts on eBay to bump up the flavor. (You'll never need more than an ounce, get a 1/4 of an ounce if you can.) I found when I first started that I also needed a tobacco flavor to mix into my menthol to make it taste more like a real cigarette.

However, you'll find your sense of taste coming back. That's why so many people here wind up vaping flavors they never thought they'd enjoy. Like cigar, camel, RY4 and my personal two favorites right now - cream and double mint. I have about 60ml of menthol in storage...that I have no interest in vaping, along with about another 60ml of liquid in various flavors that I used to vape, but don't like anymore. I'm keeping everything because if a ban comes down, I will wind up using it.

It used to annoy me to see older members advocating that you should buy a box mod or a Chuck or a screwdriver. Well, guess what, after changing batteries constantly, because the e-cig is never far from my hand, I have to agree that if you chain vape, it's the way to go.

Since you didn't say how often you smoked, there's no indication of whether this is a direction you should look in.

MadVapes.com has a $9.99 disposible 510 (charges at least 3 times, I've charged mine over 20 times with no let up in the battery life.)

LiteCigUSA.net has great prices overall and no shipping fees which make them a good deal right now. I get all my M401 equipment from them.

As a newbie (had my first e-cig this past Thursday - so real newbie), I like the 510. I know you asked for seniors, but I thought I'd give you perspective from another newbie anyway. :p

See reasons above, but here's mine: part of our habit is HABIT - and the 510 isn't so far from a 'real' cigarette as to seem totally weird. You can hold it pretty much the same - it looks a bit like a (metal) cigarette, etc. And it produces good 'smoke' (or at least does for me). Just doesn't seem to flick over the ashtray quite right... but I think that's a feature, not a bug.

Some of those others are probably great - but, until you get over the 'I must have a CIGARETTE stage, probably won't 'feel' right.

They are ALL good Models. I personally chose the Penstyle (DSE801, RN4072, etc) as my first PV due to the battery life, large carts and flavor. The M401 is often chosen because of its resemblence to a cigarette. The 901 (or RN4075) will give better flavor than the 510. The 510 is well liked for vapor production but is known to have rather pitiful battery life.

KR808D-1 Is very good and better cart life over the 510 and very good throat hit and vapor, easy 2 piece design;)

^this.... i say it a million times a day, i don't know why people bother with the extra hassle of a 3 piece, vaping is meant for enjoyment hitting it, not spending time fiddling with atomizers lol.

Hey Everybody,

Thanks for the replies and good info. I finally broke down and bought a 510. My problem is that it came with no blanks as I was promised so I took out the filling on four of the tobacco carts that came with it, washed and dried them, reinserted them and refilled them. I did tamp them down so that there were no loose fibers. My problem is that I can't get a good flavor from any of the juices that I have ordered. The taste is either really chemically or slightly burnt. I have cleaned both of my attys, first with hot water alone and then with denture cleaner followed by hot water as I saw suggested in another thread. Nothing is helping...any suggestions? I'm about ready to get another e-cig but don't want to go down in vapor production, I need good vapor + good taste to help keep me off of the analogs...I'm using a regular size manual batt by the way...the attys get hot very quickly and I'm not hitting them continuously either...

The juices that I have been using are: Nhale-Xhale Menthale, 555 Menthol, and Nuport; and Liquid Xpress Cool Rush. I'm just not getting the Newport flavor and menthol that I need from any of them and the chemical and burnt taste are really bothering me...

Any and all help is appreciated...Thanx!

I'm a noob too. Got my 510 4 days ago. I did something nooby-ish and cooked one of my attys. Everything tastes burnt now. It's possible you fried the attys. It's possible you got bad attys.

I put something in my shirt pkt alongside my 510, and it pushed the button on my manual battery. And there is a user learning curve. You don't want to push the button until it's just about to go into your mouth. Turning your atty on without inhaling is like running the coils in your hot water heater without water. It'll fry the coils in a hurry.

Maybe order some replacement addys and see if that cures it? My 1 atty that I didn't burn tastes just fine. No burnt taste at all. So I'll say it must be equipment failure for whatever reason.

Just my $.02

Cheapest way to compare 901 atties to 510ers are adapters, with which you can use the 901 atty on your 510 batteries.
Mind you, I don't think with most liquids there is much of a difference. I have one, though, even I only vape from a 901, and that's Decadent Vapours Parma Violet. Other than that, though, my 510 atties are fine.
