First off, thanks to everyone who contributes to this forum for the wealth of information. I was very close to making an impulse buy on one of the cheap mall kiosk type models, but after doing a lot of reading on this site, I was shown the better options.

I am 28 years old and I smoked about a pack to a pack and half a day of camel lights (and quite a bit more if I was out partying) for the last 12 years. I first saw a coworker using an electric cigarette about a year ago. In that year, two of my different coworkers have died from lung cancer. Granted they were much older than me, but I certainly didn't want to suffer their same fate (and that seemed to be where I was heading.) Decided I would give it a try.

After reading on here and talking in the IRC channel (LOTS of help there, THANK YOU) I purchased a kGo kit, some cartos, a few drip tips, and some juice.

The package arrived on new years eve, but I didn't want to make it a resolution, so I decided I would just switch from analogs to vaping right then. I went out to the bars for new years, and reluctantly left my trusty camel lights at home. Thankfully, I vaped all night and didn't cheat with an analog once. And I haven't since. :)

So it has been 5 days now and things seem to be going okay. I really don't enjoy people congratulating me at work because I don't really feel like I have done anything yet to deserve it. I keep telling them to congratulate me in a month or two, that will feel more substantial. But I certainly understand where they are coming from.

A few pieces of advice or suggestions for those new to vaping:
-get a good battery and do research.

-get a variety of different juices to sample. I have tried 8 so far, and only really enjoy vaping 3 of them. And I have more samples on the way.

-drink LOTS of water. My mouth has gotten very dry these first few days, but the water helps. Hopefully the dry mouth will go away

-if you feel the habit to go to your usual smoking spot, like the front porch, just go there and vape. It makes the transition a little easier

-plan on spending a little more than you expected. My budget probably doubled after doing research. But money is kind of arbitrary if it eliminated cigarettes.

If anyone has any questions for me, feel free to ask, although I don't know too much yet.

Sorry for being long winded, but consider it my introduction. Hope to be here for a while. And thanks again ECF.

Welcome to the forum reprisal! Glad you are here. I will refrain from saying congrats - even thought I believe we should celebrate even the smallest victories - I will be here to congratulate you in a month or two though! Your advice is great - you clearly did your research and did it well. Best of luck to you in your continued journey - and enjoy ECF - this is a great place to hang out!! :)

Thanks AutumnWolf. I certainly understand that it is an accomplishment to make the choice to stop smoking. And honestly, to go 5 days without doing something that you have done every day of your life for the past 12 years...that is something to noted I guess. I don't mind the compliments, I just want to push myself further to actually earn them. But thank you though, all the encouragement helps.

I am 28 years old and I smoked about a pack to a pack and half a day of camel lights (and quite a bit more if I was out partying) for the last 12 years.

Same here bud.... except I am 29 and smoked Marlboro reds for 12 years. I was in my local Loves truck stop over a month ago and grabbed me a Mistic starter kit. I haven't smoke an analog since. I absolutely love vaping now.

Some things I have noticed now a month in:

1. Like you said about going to a habitual smoking-spot, early on, I would do that. Then I found an even greater comfort in vaping in places that I would normally never smoke, such as my girlfriend's study (she hates cigarette smoke with a passion). I even tried in the shower or while making breakfast...which is awesome.

2. I can smell and taste food much better now. Even a simple candle and its aroma just amazes me after being deaf to it for so long.

3. Point 2 above: When my brother came and visited me, I could smell the strong and seemingly awful scent of the analogs on him. I sometimes wondered, did I really smell like that?

3. My smoker's cough is subsiding.

4. To help the transition, I washed my winter jacket (Always smoked outside in it), removed my ash-trays, cleaned up stray analog butts outside, and hid my lighters.

5. My main fear was the occasional drink with my buddies and if the e-cig would handle my normal chain-smoking while doing so. I was actually surprised it handled it just fine. I never once yearned for the analogs that my friends were smoking right in front of me, actually it was the opposite.

I am glad to see so many other people make the leap as I did. It seems we are all early-adopters in a world market that is somewhat skeptical of these.

DrNegative great to hear it's working for you! I agree, I was worried about going out and drinking around a bunch of smokers, but I decided to try it my first night. And strangely enough I didn't crave an analog at all. That really sounds weird but it's true.

I haven't hid lighters or washed clothes yet. I still have an ash tray on my front porch. And I still have a pack of analogs at my desk. But I just tell myself that I'm a non-smoker now. I plan on doing something fun with my last pack of smokes, like take it to the gun range to shoot at, or set them on fire. I dunno, I'm planning on doing that after two months.

I haven't really noticed any tastes being much different yet, but I do notice the smell of smokers. And I too wondered.."DAMN, did I really smell that bad?!"

Keep it up, and uhhh....stay positive DrNegative
