My first ever kit is an ipv mini, and an aerotank v2.

The display says 2.0 ohm, how much power is okay?

The chart says I should run 8 watts, when I try this I get the correct voltage reading as the chart, but I'm just getting air, no smoke or taste, if I run at 15 watts, I get good taste but the chart says this will burn the coil, what am I doing wrong?

The amount of power required will all depend on the coil, the tank, the juice, and your preference. The recommended power guides/charts that come with coils are just that, recommended. Sometimes you need more, sometimes you prefer less. Neither is wrong so long as you get a good vape. So long as you're not burning the coil (and you'll know if you do, it's not subtle) you can use it as you wish.

whenever using a new coil, be sure to prime it first with several drops of juice to make sure the cotton is saturated, let the coil sit in the full tank for several minutes, then start at a low power and slowly go up a few watts at a time until you reach the point you like best.

Thanks for the reply, I was just worried that I might be burning the juice or the coil, I did actually get a very dry hit the first time I filled the tank (noob mistake)

Oh, it happens to everyone. And once you've experienced the joy of a burning dry hit, you'll know exactly what you never want to go through again.:)

The thing that happens with a factory coil is the cotton may quite tight, and slow to saturate. What I'll try to do is after it sat for several minutes is take some unpowered draws to help pull juice into the coil. Then, regardless of the "recommended" wattage, I'll start out really low, probably low enough I don't even get a vape. Then I work my way back up. That really seems to break the coil in nicely, so by the time I reach my "sweet spot" all's well.

The first time you get a burnt hit you'll know it and you won't take another puff untll the problem is corrected. 2 ohms, really? If 15 watts gives a good experience then 15 it is. A brother of min, 2 years on, is still using his N mini with 1.8 ohm coils and an iStick mini at about 10 watts. I envy him. Keep a low powered vape if you can. It simplifies everything else.

Eskie pretty much hit the nail on the head. All I can do is elaborate.

I still rarely use a protank 2, which uses a very similar coil as your aerotank, but yours is updated.

First, let me explain how the wick works.. it's pretty much a wire wrapped around a silica wick. The good part is, it's next to impossible to burn silica (I have taken a blow torch to silica to clean it in the past). So, you won't have to worry about burning the actual wick. That doesn't mean they go bad, or you can't get a bad taste from them though. If you run too hot, and get a bad taste on it, it will stay in the wick. So, still try and keep those wicks wet.

Now for the actual coil wrapped around the silica.... The Protank/aerotank coils are quite small, and there's not much room for coils in those things. So, to vary the resistance, they use a high gauge wire (thin wire). A 2.0 ohm coil is more likely 32 or 34 gauge kanthal if I were to take a guess.. that is a very thin wire. The more watts you use, the hotter the coil gets. Think of it like one of those older light bulbs... They have a small coil in there that makes light. If you put it on a dimmer, you can vary how much power that coil is getting. The Kanger works the same way. If you run too much power, it will simply blow out.. like a light bulb.

Now for juice. There is PG (Propylene Glycol), and VG (Vegetable Glycerine) which is used to make the vapor. Flavor and nicotine is usually added, but %80 or more of it will be PG, VG, or most likely both. The Kanger aerotank has a small inlet for the juice to go in. PG gives more of a throat hit and is a bit better of a flavor carrier, but it doesn't produce as much vapor as VG. PG has the consistency of water, which is thin. VG produces a smoother vape and more dense clouds. However it doesn't carry the flavor as much as PG (It still carries quite well IMO). VG has the consistency of vegetable oil. Your Kanger tank will probably wick a higher PG liquid better than a more VG based liquid. I would look for 50/50 mixes of PG/VG and see how those vape.

Now to put it all together, as you inhale, the air is passed around the coil, which cools the coil as well. If you inhale hard and take short 2 second bursts, you could probably get away with a higher wattage setting. If you tend to take long drags, you put more stress on the coils, since they tend to get hotter. If I were you, I'd try to inhale for a half a second after you let off the power, just to cool the coils down some. This may help your coils cool down quicker.

In the end, it's all up to your own vaping style. As long as you're not smoking, you're doing a much healthier alternative to cigarettes. I'd rather go through Kanger coils rather than run for a pack of cigarettes. Vape how you like, get a secondary setup for backup just in case yours breaks, and have fun with it. And as always, if you have ANY questions, feel free to ask.

15w - Aerotank. (Should I be kind here?)

You won't get long at 15w. That is too high for a realistic 'quality' vape and life of the coil.

Sadly, although there is nothing wrong with using a powerful mod for a old technology tank, you have an old tech' tank and whilst these are inexpensive with quite cheap coils, I fear you will be disappointed somewhere down the line.

The upgraded Kanger coils all got very confusing, some barely worked at all (because that is what e-cig makes do - sell stuff which isn't really going to work properly) and even the best ones topped out short of 15w.

I wish you luck and if it works, it works... but don't expect miracles.

In general, people looking to vape 10-12w were happy with these. People looking for 12-14w used Nautilus Aspire BVC and then... (praise the lord) the Sub-ohm mods, tanks and coils arrived and retired most of these products to the backwaters of vaping history.

So - I say good but limited. Don't pay too much (I was down to about $4 per 5-pack) and some US vendors are still charging $14.99. One infamous vendor re-branded these coils and charged $19.99.

Beware the vape industry. Some people cannot stop their greed. I do believe the same vendor that charged $20 for the coils also charged $49.99 for what is essentially a $20 tank.

Welcome and glad you joined. Some folks like to live in the fast lane and some like to enjoy the trip and smell the roses. Your in good shape with regards to settings.
In General higher ohm coils/lower wattage (generally MTL) vaping will:
Heat the coil slower, which may produce “less” vapor
Provide A “cooler” tasting vape, can produce more flavor
May use less E-Juice (<$ less money)
Prolong battery life (<$)
Prolong coil life (<$)
Prolong wick life (<$)
May result in less PV maintenance/Issues
Less irritation to non vapers
Aids stealth vaping
May be better in the long run healthwise (<$)
