Hey guys,

Just want to make sure I'm doing this all correctly:

I bought the following:

Kanger subox MINI Black Starter

Kanger SubTank OCC Replacement coils - VERTICAL COIL

and some suicide bunny liquids.

Currently vaping on 0.0V, 0.6OHM and 24W - is this correct? I get nice clouds but a somewhat plastic/slightly chemical taste.

I still crave cigs, which is somewhat bad but I'm using 6mg liquid so I may need to up that. It also makes me cough a little from time to time.

I dropped the wattage down to 16-19w and the clouds was not too impressive and the taste was the same.

In terms of changing the coil and etc, it seems a messy task - are you supposed to only do it when all the e-liquid has gone? is it fine it wash it out with water (obviously, without the coil)?

I also think I should invest in another top tank (is that whats it called)? Not really interested in building my own coils - what do you guys recommend?

That's a good starter kit, did you wash the tank out before using it quite often there is some machine oil left over from the construction of the tank always give new tanks a good hot soapy wash then wipe down with alcohol. How long did you prime the coil? whenever you use a new coil fill the tank give it a couple of pulls without power and let it sit for 15-30 minutes so that the wicking material becomes saturated. As for nic strength depends how many cigarettes you used to smoke if more then a pack a day look at 12-18mg nic and if you find the vape a bit harsh more VG can ease that.

Hello and welcome to the forum @Noni51. Glad to have you here!:)
I primed the coil by filling the tank with liquid and letting the coil sit in it for around 30mins.
Priming a Coil

All cotton coils have to be primed well with juice. If they are not primed well the cotton will burn. Once the cotton is burned the burned taste doesn't go away.

To prime the coil, drop 5-8 drops (sometimes less/more depending on the size of the coil head) of juice right inside the coil, another drop of juice in all the holes on the side of the coil. Put the coil in the base.
  • If Bottom Filling - Fill the tank and then screw the base back onto the tank.
  • If Top Filling (some tanks are top filled) - Screw the tank on the base and then top fill it.
Once you put the tank on the battery give it several unpowered primer puffs. This will make sure the wick is fully saturated.
Currently vaping on 0.0V, 0.6OHM and 24W - is this correct?
The rule of thumb for EVERY vape device you'll ever own is the same (when running in power or wattage/voltage mode). Turn your voltage/wattage down, take a few hits, bump it up, couple more hits. Repeat until you find your "sweet spot". If it starts to taste funny, gets too hot or tastes burnt, back it down. Different flavors will have different sweet spots so you just have to experiment
what is VG?
eLiquid/Juice

PG = Propylene Glycol - the "flavor carrier" of e-liquid. A secondary source of "throat hit", but not as strong as the nicotine concentration. Some people have a sensitivity or even an allergy to PG. It's very thin.

VG = Vegetable Glycerin - the "vapor maker" of e-liquid. Used as a sweeter in many food sources, and also as a skin emollient. It's very thick. Often labeled just "Glycerine" (if you buy it to DIY).

PG and VG are often used together in different ratios in e-liquid. For example, a 50/50 PG/VG ratio. Many juice vendors offer a range of different ratios as far as PG/VG.

Nicotine

A "general guideline" for nicotine concentration in e-liquid to the number of cigarettes smoked per day. If you are subohming (resistance under 1.0Ω) cut these nicotine levels by at least 50%.

06 mg = 10 cigarettes or less
12 mg = 20 cigarettes
18 mg = 30 cigarettes
24 mg = 40 cigarettes

When I first started my taste buds were shot; everything was plastic-like. Someone told me to go with mints. It may not taste accurate, but it had a bright taste.

I don't know if that is the case, just me.
if you can stand it (i love it) menthol
its not the same as mint, but is is wat gives the ice nose clearing fresh feeling in vix, breath fresheners ...

vape base with menthol for a day

(i still use it in almost all my liquids)

First off, thank you for the replies!

Yesterday, I cleaned out the tank with hot water then I removed the coil and inserted a new one (100% Genuine Kanger SubTank OCC Replacement Coils - VERTICAL COIL - 1.5 Ohms - 5 Pack).

Then I proceeded to prime the coil by putting liquid in all the holes and then setting up and leaving it to sit for 20mins.

I took a hit at 10w and it was very harsh, tried again and it was still awful.

Then this morning I tried again, still very harsh and I coughed alot.

Losing my paitence with this a little as I've spent alot of money, but you cannot put a price on health; all I want is nice flavour and big clouds.

Where did I go wrong? Are the coils not right for me? The one that came with the Kangertech starter kit seemed better.

Shall I get a new tank and coils?

Thank you.

The 1.5 ohm coils will be extremely harsh If you try to smoke them with a deep lung type of inhale. They are meant for you to close the air flow off and take a draw with your cheeks then inhale the smoke (Also known as mouth to lung inhaling) this mimicks traditional analog smoking. If you want to go back to deeper inhales and a wider airflow then you will need to get a lower ohm coil such as the .5.

15-17 watts is your sweet spot for the 1.5 ohm coil. If you find it is too harsh of a drag then you might want to look into lowering your nicotine in your juice to maybe 3mg.

Just remember clouds aren't everything right now we are trying to get you to where you enjoy your vaping experience so that you stay off the cancer sticks. We can help you Chase clouds later. For me I found that a dessert type juice paired with a sub ohm coil and a deep lung inhale got me the nicotine fix I needed for the first few weeks. I started with 6 mg and the throat hit was harsh at first but you get used to it. I then weened myself down to 3mg so that once I got to where I was vaping for pleasure and not for the cravings I wasn't over killing myself with nicotine. Everyone has the coughs the first time they vape you just have to power through it and get used to the vapor. Then find a flavor that you enjoy that takes your mind off of the cigs. After that you will be golden. As far as the plastic taste maybe the bunny liquid is not a good brand. Did you sample it in the shop before hand. Did it taste good there. Some e-juices taste more chemical then others. Nature of the beast. Hope this helps a little

Remember that cigarettes and pipe tobacco too for that matter too are treated with additives to make them smoother and to work almost like an anaesthetic to stifle to cough/choke response, so by comparison vape liquid can appear harsh until you get used to it.

Could I suggest you revisit two things? Firstly always remember why you took up vaping in the first place - TO AVOID CIGARETTES! This does help to keep you focussed and helps you stick with vaping until you get really good and happy with it.

Secondly - work at your tecnique; slow draws of about 4-5 seconds work well and keep things cool. Hold the vape in in your mouth and try to pick out flavours, inhale if you will, then let it out slowly through your nose savouring the experience.

It takes a wee bit of discipline at the start - but OMG it works.

All the best and good luck!

Also you might be sensitive to propylene glycol often referred too as PG I'm not familiar with the liquid you have so don't know the ratio it could also be that liquid is not good for you it happens sometimes. There is a solution to this and when it's been identified you'll be so much better off money and health wise and all from a pleasurable experience stick with it.
