Hello I just recently started vaping and am concerned with all research ive done over the last couple of weeks. It has been too mich information and not enough experience. I just want to make sure that what I am using is safe for me and wont short or blow up.
I have ordered the
Voopoo Drag 157 w
UWELL CROWN III tank w/ .5 ss coils
2x LG HG2 18650 3000 mAh batteries
I planned on running it at 75w and under 4 volts.
As i wait for my mod to arrive i have been surfing and seen that the drag has blown on people and now am second guessing my choice.

Please help

Thanks

J

Looks like a good set up.

Each of the LG HG2 batteries will support 60 watts so the 2 together will support 120 watts. This assumes they are true LG HG2 batteries and not rewraps. Batteries should be purchased from one of the trusted sites listed by Mooch. If needed Mooch will explain rewraps.

If you haven't already watched, please watch Mooch's minding your mAhs. Here is a link to episode 1, there are 13 videos in this series.

Thank you
I will start watching the videos.
I bought the mod and batteries from dashvapes. I assume they are real. And the LG HG2’s were recommendes in a drop down menu.
I like Dash Vapes just on the wrong side of the border for me due to shipping costs. I really doubt they would knowingly sell you rewraps, they seem really reputable. The key is would they know they received rewraps. Just watch Mooch's videos you'll catch on. Again, I think you will be fine with your new setup.

Hi JJ Hair and welcome to ECF :)

I don't know the Voopoo Drag 157 but I see it is getting really good reviews on a couple of sites I trust for honest reviews. It also seems to be a very well built mod. I wouldn't worry about a few negative reviews, almost every piece of hardware has a few of those out there.

I'm in the Toronto area and know Dashvapes pretty well. I consider them honest and I wouldn't worry about safety issues for anything I bought from them. Having said that, you can generally do better on price elsewhere, but you have to know other good suppliers and you will most times be waiting longer to get your stuff.

IMO, don't sweat this one. Vape and enjoy :thumb:

The ones that have failed in my entourage had a board drenched in liquid. One kept auto firing and one just started to smell funny and stopped working. I think it might not be liquid proof.

They were only 2 out of more than 10 though, so if you're not letting any liquid seep into the board you might be ok (may be hard to do if you have leaking tanks or like to overdrip).

Hmm, maybe watch a reviewer that does a disassembly (maybe DJLsb did one) and see if it is easy to do. If so you could add a little bead of silicone or other sealant around key areas to make it a bit more juice proof.

Welcome, I think I answered on your other thread. I'm glad you are asking about safety. It is certainly true that equipment CAN fail, although it's usually not frequent. The good news is that you are using a regulated mod. The majority of errors and incidents in vaping usually involve mechanical mods or user error, so your best protection is doing what you are doing-- asking about how to use it safely.

I don't care how well regarded a vape shop is, I am going to get batteries from an approved vendor (by Mooch) they are inexpensive enough that really, it's worth doing that always, always. The battery is truly the MAIN part of the vape that you need to be able to rely on 100 %

Actually the majority of serious malfunctions involve charging. Of each subcategory of catastrophic mod failures "while charging" is the largest one (with about one third).
E-Cigarette Explosions: Comprehensive List - eCig One
The next is "during use", the mech mod incidents are likely to all be in there, but certainly not exclusively mechs (about one fourth).
About one fifth involve incorrect handling of batteries not even in a mod (but of course still reported as "ecig explosion" in the media) like the loose-batteries-in-a-pocket-with-change-and-keys classic.

Granted that list isn't 100% exhaustive but afaik it's the best we got so far.
The lesson is to always be vigilant and not trust any mod too much and watch out for signs that things aren't as they should be, no matter if regulated or mechanical, and never let batteries charge unsupervised (and preferably not on a tinder box).
Eg a regulated mod can't do anything to prevent a short if you insert a battery with a wrap that's torn at the (+).

Thank you so much you uave been very helpful and patient. It looks like most of the retailers are in the states. I just contacted dashvapes and they insist that they guarentee there batteries and that they have found irregularities before and past them on to mooch for testing. They shared the article with me. I asked them why mooch hasnt approved thier site and th

I am sure Mooch is a busy guy with little time to verify every single of the thousands vape/battery retailers. You are in good hands with Dashvapes – one of the better Canadian retailers. And yes, I have confirmed the LG HG2’s they sell are authentic.

You have purchased what looks to be a very good kit for someone starting out vaping. Brush up on your battery safety, how to prime your coils and use your device and you should be off to the races. I also wouldn’t start directly with 75 watts – experimenting will gain you knowledge and there is nothing wrong with going under the recommended wattage for a specific coil. Just don’t go over the recommended wattage for you will reduce the life of your coil dramatically. We re all here to help should you have any more questions/concerns. Have fun!!
