Hello All!

Neat forum you guys have here. I looked around a bit but kind of hard to find the specific info I'm looking for. Basically, I am very new to vaping. I have been a smoker for 15-16 years (I'm 28), and recently have been having some serious issues getting over being sick and lungs hurting and so on, so I decided to switch to vaping to see if I could quit. So I went to the vape store, bought an ego one (2200?) and quickly realized I got ripped off (70$ lol). But I needed something quick so I could just stop smoking. Which I did. This was 2 weeks ago, and I haven't had a cigarette since. So it's working and I already feel like a new man. BUT I want to upgrade. I've spent many a hour reading and watching videos and so on since I got the ego one 2 weeks ago and have learned a bit but there are some things I just can't seem to clarify. So I was hoping you guys and gals could help me understand.

I am not a rich man, and even if I was I don't really think top of the line $200 to $300 setup would be my best friend at this point. But from that study showing formaldehyde in the vape at over 5 volts and and then none at 3.3 volts and then all the people who debunked that study blah blah dry hits, blah blah never would be used like that, blah method of testing flawed blah blah blah... One thing I did determine was that I wanted a temp control mod. I don't want to go all out because money is tight and I probably won't use the best of the best to it's full potential anyway. So I think I've decided on the joytech evic vtc mini starter kit. It won't break the bank and has everything I need, also seems to get good reviews. If you have any thoughts on that feel free to share.

My main question is though: If I were to want a sub ohm tank, would the temp control work for any of them? Will any work at all? I'm also wondering if there are sub ohm tanks that take pre built coil/atomizers that are titanium? Would a sub ohm tank only work in VW or bypass mode? I'm not really trying to make this a serious hobby (although it does look interesting) so I just want to be able to pop in a new thing once a month or 2 depending on use and start vaping again. I just want a quality experience with as little work as possible. Not trying to make my own coils or do drip (whatever that means) or anything like that. Just want a good/high quality sub ohm tank(top filling would be nice), on a low to mid end temp control mod, preferably with pre-made titanium replacement coils.

lol So that's that. Sorry for the long post and I hope I used the right terms and whatnot. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks!

When you get a tank, look for a tank with lots of options for coils, including nickel coils for temperature control application; nowadays I don't think it makes sense to get a tank that doesn't offer rba coils as an option.

You standard run of the mill common tank nowadays is probably the kanger subtank mini.

And being "able to pop in a new thing once a month or 2 depending on use" would be great, but the reality is you will probably find yourself having to pop in a new thing twice a week and $$that$$ is the $$reason$$ why people end up making their own coils.

Thanks for the input. Does that tank work with temp control? Does it have titanium coils? I guess I'm just confused about a lot of stuff. Like on all the shop websites, there is a tonne of different tanks but very few coil replacements by comparison. Are they interchangeable or do you need the specific one for each specific tank? Or is it that they just expect people using them to make their own coils? I'm just not particularly thrilled with the joytech tank I have. Maybe the stock one with the mod will be fine for me, but I doubt it... I don't know. This .... is kind of overwhelming.

1: Does kanger subtank work with temp control:
Short answer is yes, but you can almost say the same about any other tank.
Here is an Ni200 (nickel) coil for the kanger subtank.
The nickel coils are for temperature control mods that rely on using nickel coils to achieve temperature control.

Basically the question is whether or not there are replacement coils available which are made with nickel or titanium intended for temp control mods requiring them.

On the other hand perhaps by next year we will see more mods like the ijoy asolo that can to burnt hit prevention with regular kanthal or other resistance wire without having to use a particular wire.

2: Does it have titanium coils:
I don't think there are premade titanium coils for the kanger subtank but I see titaniums for your ego one
$9.18 Authentic Joyetech eGo ONE CL Ti Titanium Coil Head (5-Pack) - 0.4ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

People who wrap their own coils have reported that they prefer using titanium instead of nickel; it just means the numbers reported by their tc mod are off by some factor.

3: Basically you need a specific set of coils for the specific brand of tank you have;
There is some interchangeability though but I don't know the specifics off the top of my head;

If it were me I'd get something like the smok tfv4 tank and a big tc mod. I'll explain why. Tfv4 has tons of coil options, a rebuildable and can chuck clouds if you desire. Since this tank has nickel, Titanium and standard coils available you have Alot of options. The reason I say buy a big mod is to future proof yourself. I have an ipv3li and love it, it does 200watts in vw mode and has ti and ni in Tc mode. The sigelei 150 tc is good too. I will never use 200 watts on anything but prior to my ipv3li I bought a 30w mod and quickly realized it wasn't enough. This may sound expensive but you could get the setup of tank and mod for maybe lil under 100 now. With decent batts and charger I'm sure shopping around you could have a great setup for under 150 that you can play with for years. But that's just my opinion and I'm sure others will ring in. Good luck.

Edit, also with a dual batt mod running lower wattage or temp you will get great battery life.

The Evic mini can handle nickel, titanium, and stainless steel for temperature control. Yes, there are a LOT of tanks out there. I guess the trick is to find one that has a coil option with the wire you're looking for. Sometimes you can use a single coil type in multiple tanks. I have a Starre tank and a Tobeco Super tank. Both of them can handle Atlantis coils so if I get an Atlantis temperature control coil I can put it in either tank and use the temp control option.

Istick has the 40 watt TC & 60 watt TC mod, while not having any experience with either, I've never had issues with an Eleaf product. I believe both are under $50, for someone new to the vaping world, that's not a bad deal. Throw on a tank with TC coil options, you'd be set. The 40 watt has an internal battery with pass through charging, while the 60 watt requires one 18650 battery. There may be better deals, and options, but that's my two cents. If you want a full kit, I'd suggest (like I'm sure others have), the Kanger Sub Box. You can grab a kit for around sixty online, and I haven't heard anything negative about them. However, I'm not sure if they offer tempature control or not, wasn't sure if you were set on that or just thinking of getting into the sub ohm world. Hope this helps, stay safe.

I do highly agree with this. Buy a bigger mod if you have the budget. You'll end up with so many mods sitting around after you keep upgrading, you'll have to start trying to get rid of them. Good point.

You are right, this is really overwhelming to a beginner. Heck I've been vaping 5 years and sometimes its overwhelming to me. The old addage certainly applies here, Ask 10 vapers a question and get 10 different answers. Everyone here has given a ton of input and that's great, but ultimately it's going to come down to you being able to try out different setups and figuring out what works best for you. Unfortunately that's going to be a work in progress, as it is for most of us.

The wife and I just recently went to sub ohm vaping, no temp control just yet, and our setups are different so that we could experience different mods and tanks to find out what we enjoyed. She got the isub tank and I lucked out with a uwell crown tank. Our thoughts is that the isub does what it's supposed to, but it's very loud compared to the crown tank, as well as a little bit harsher on the throat hits. We've had them about a week and not had any trouble out of either of them. As far as our devices go, I have a Sigelei 150 watt and she has a tesla two. The sigelei needed 2 18650 batteries, so I bought Samsung 25r's, and we already owned an intellicharger. The tesla two didn't need batteries, as its all built into one device.

I know it's a long post, but I wanted to show you that even experienced vapers trying out new experiences can have different opinions based on what their own body can handle and what they enjoy. She loves her setup, I think it needs a different tank. I love my setup, she thinks it's too damn big LOL. My suggestion is this, start with items that aren't going to break the bank, but will provide you with a decent vape. Always, always look for the best deal. IF one shop is too high for you, you might find the devices/tanks you want at a different one. When I shop, I have several stores open in different tabs, comparing prices. Couple more tips, watch your nicotine content, if you start getting headaches back off the vaping. Keep hydrated, vaping will dehydrate you and give killer cotton mouth, and above all have fun.

Congrats on stopping smoking now to your questions

About temp control I would recommend staying with your Ego One battery for a while instead of quickly jumping into TC.

The Ego One works and some Mod producers are trying to get Kanthal to work in Temperature Control.

The Asolo mod had Taste Control that Kinda worked to prevent dry hits. I have heard that Kanger Tech is trying to get TC to work with Temperature control.

Yes sub ohm tanks can work with Temperature Control if you have a mod that will do TC and you are using a TC compatible coil.

The Evic VTC. Joyetech and ECF are giving away 250 of them. You may win one of them. I won the Cloupor Mini Plus recently from Cloupor and ECF.

Yes they make coil heads for TC. The Smok TFV4 , and. Ego One has TC coils and more than likely others. I no longer use tanks. I currently use three RTAs. The Goblin Mini, Orchid, and Kayfun Nano. Means I wrap and wick my own coils. I also DIY my own juice.

Before you ask yes I can. Buy TC compatible wire. I have a TC compatible mod but haven't started TC yet.

Nickel is fine in TC mode but in power of wattage mode of can be dangerous.

I would advise against the tc40.

1. Internal battery. The mod is dead when the battery dies.

2. According to the manual it only does TC with Nickel wire. Two or three here have said it works in TC with titanium but have to lower the Temp about 100 degrees.

3.it only does TC in full 40 watt power so the battery doesn't last too long.

Issue 1 and 3 are why I don't recommend it; and I have one 40tc and a 60tc and just bought a second 60 tc.

I know Kanger doesn't have any mods capable of TC. Don't know if they make TC compatible coils. But Rip Trippers has a good vid on You Tube showing how to rebuild the OCC heads. If Kanger doesn't make TC coils you could rebuild the OCC heads for use in TC.

You are not the first to be under impressed with that tank

I no longer use tanks with premade coils.

Others can recommend tanks with good flavor.

As you progress into rebuilding RDAs of RTAs I can recommend about 10 rebuildables with Grrrrrreat flavor.

So, I was trying to avoid that much money. Honestly if I was going to spend 150, I might as well spend 200 on the DNA200 setups that are top of the line right now as far as I can tell. Like the lavabox. As I said, I'm not trying to make this a tech hobby lol, maybe a vape/relax hobby but I really don't want to tinker or build. I have enough hobbies.

Thank you!

So I said .... it and went to a different vape shop a few block away from the first place I went. (the first place looked nice but was way more expensive and the teller was not helpful at all) This place was much better priced, the lady was super knowledgeable and they also had the vtc 60. She however recommended the Eleaf tc60w istick (which already comes with a nice tank: Melo 2) and she took the time to show me how to use it, let me try a bunch of juices (the other shop just let me smell them and their tobacco flavors were awful) and I bit the bullet and couldn't be happier. It fits in my hand well, seems to hold a pretty good charge, can use titanium at .5 ohm, it's clear and large tank. up to 60 wats, hits great and replaceable batteries and it even fits in my little lighter/change pocket in my dress pants like the ego one did lol. OH AND ITS TOP FILLING (basically). So I'm psyched. Walked out of there with the mod, included nice tank, 2 juices that are hands down better tobacco than the other place and the needed battery for 90 bucks. So thank you all for your advise and vape on.

I just read in quite a few places that titanium was a cleaner hit. And I wanted temp control because I want to be able to regulate the voltage/wattage so as to avoid dry hits/any off gassing/burned chemicals. And it's not like I'm throwing out the ego one. Always good to have a back up. And it's not that I didn't like it, I just knew I would like a nicer one better. Even if it's all in my mind.

-Thanks
