Hello Jenny, welcome to the community.
The nic hit from vapor is different than smoking. The delivery is a bit slower, exhaling thru your nose until you adjust does help speed it up some. Cannot recommend nic levels without knowing what you are vaping and how much you smoked a day. Please tell us the brand, coil resistance, and watts you are using for vaping.

I am using a brand called Vaporesso target mini starter kit .. With Guardian tank
It says CCELL ceramic coil inside. Maximum output 40 Watts built in battery of 1400 mAh.I have different output modeson my vape- I have output modes :
VW/VT/ (Ni,SS,T)/ TCR(M1,M2)
My vape says it has 2 in 1 tank.
(DTL + MTL) can you tell me the difference between settings?
I am currently at 18mg but I don't know how often I should be filling it. I was at a pack (stressful days, more) . Sorry as you can see I'm a NEWBIE but I'm already in love with vaping if you can give me any pointers or recommendations to help me learn more about things I would appreciate it so much.

MTL mouth to lung, similar draw to smoking
DTL direct to lung, inhaling directly into your lungs, open draw
18mg nic is a good starting point.
Fill your tank as often as you need to. If your head starts swimming a bit take a break for a few minutes. When you start to feel that way more often it is your body telling you to step down your nic mg.
When we ask about the resistance, Ω, we are wanting to know the Ω of the wire. Yours is either .5Ω or .6Ω. This is labeled on the coil itself usually. Your wire type is stainless steel, ss.
For now stay in wattage/power mode and save using the temp control, tc, until you get a bit more experience just vaping.

Welcome
You're the second person to make the switch with the aid of orthopaedic surgeon. @AngeNZ will let you see her X-rays.
Trial and error is the only way I found that works.
What works for one person doesn't work for the next.
MTL is like the draw on a cigarette.
DTL is breathing the vapour Direct To Lungs.
For me I found this less harsh.
Yet I also found 18 mg too strong even from the beginning.
Vaping can seem a bit of a mine field when you first start.
Lots of jargon and endless choices.
Good luck .
Keep asking questions , lots of helpful people here.
And idiots like me.
Hope the foot heals well.

Welcome to ecf. Its great you made the switch, not so great the reason why. But quitting smoking allows your body to heal as it should.

The vapor/nic from your juice is absorbed through the mouth, nose and throat so feeling satisfied from vaping takes a little longer than when smoking. Once your body reaches the level where its happy then we vape to maintain that level. It is normal to feel like you are vaping more than smoking, well cause you are because of the different mode of delivery of nic.

Also drink plenty of your fav beverage, The ejuice draws moisture from the mucous membranes to help produce the vapor you see yourself exhale. This can really dry you out. Plus more liquid also helps to rid your body of the toxins it took in while smoking.

Good luck and ask any questions you have.

:)

    Hi Jenny,
Yep I too had to make the switch to vaping after I broke my ankle ;)
It was made a bit easier by the fact I literally couldn't get myself outside for a smoke - but could vape inside.

    Welcome and hang in there!

Edited to add: use your vape as much as you want. It sits on my lap all day some days

Hi and welcome to ECF. If you aren't having issues at 18 mg/ml in your setup, I'd kind of just recommend "carry on." If you start feeling lightheaded, nauseous, dizzy, hiccups, yawning, fatigue will those can be signs of nicotine overload. Chain vaping is totally normal in the beginning, so you may find you vape less after you fully detox. Your "brain" is telling you it "needs" a cigarette, and vaping provides SOME satisfaction by providing nicotine, but you may still feel a bit wonky as detox progresses, it's kind of the nature of the beast.

I vape at 18 mg/ml nicotine and I was a 3 ppd smoker. Your mileage may vary, as everyone responds to nicotine from vaping differently.

If things get really awful or aren't working, post. I'd suggest some strategies if you are having trouble, including perhaps a higher nicotine tank for those "bad" moments and if things get really dire and you feel yourself at risk for smoking, there can be additional (but more expensive) remedies, so unless you feel at risk of smoking, I won't list them.

I will say, finding the right vape equipment (for you) and the right juice is important, but it sounds to me as if you may already be there (with a setup and juice you enjoy). I will say you may want to get another setup as a backup (it doesn't necessarily have to be a super expensive one either) in case your primary mod fails.

If you are interested in that, I might post about what you like/dislike about your current setup and etc.

Best of luck and welcome :)
