I'm so sorry to hear that. What a nightmere! I'd be a wreck if that happened to me. I have so much invested on my drives. I need to back-up more than I do already.

KaiBot, did u notice anything odd regarding your drives performance, just b4 it blew? It's a longshot question. They usually go with little warning. How old was the drive? I'm asking because these things really freak me out!

I know I am going to have to be a lot better about backing up from now on too. In response to if my drive gave any warning before... no not really, I had noticed a few times the fan sounded louder while running a lot of different programs/games but the day the hard drive died I had been using it all morning. I went to the grocery store and when I got home the computer was acting a bit laggy. I just figured that I needed to restart since I do not do it too often. It never restarted properly after that, I have Windows 8 so I got stuck in a loop of it trying to "prepare automatic recovery" and black death screen over an over. Got into my boot setting and ran a diagnosis and showed hard drive failure.

Kaibot,

Depending on How it failed, and What failed, the Data is often still available. If it just won't Boot into Windows, that Drive can be mounted in another computer, and you can see if any of the Data is accessible. It's just a suggestion, but I'm often able to retrieve Data this way.

If your Windows Logon had a Password, then much of that Data might be Protected under that same Password, making it inaccessible in another computer. It depends on How it went bad. There might be ways to get to the Data.

Send me a PM if you want to discuss it.

Thank you for the info VG! My husband was saying something about this also but he has not had the time to give it a try for me yet. He is the more technically intelligent one between us now I am sad to admit. I used to be a lot better with computer 10 or so years ago but to be honest since he does all of my stuff for me now most times my skills have gone to hell. LOL. I would like to think that I still am above the average with competency on computers but somethings my brain just kicks out... LOL Pretty much if he isnt home and I make myself I can search and figure out how to repair things but when he is around I just tell him to fix it while I paint my nails.... :glare:

Congrats to Susan for the win of a great looking prize package.
Thanks to Got Vapes and especially the great helpers.
Going to see the new movie, "Planes", today and I can hardly wait. I loved "Cars" when it was released, but a movie about planes just really rotates my propeller!

Sent from somewhere on planet Earth.
