I still have one of these in mint condition, with all the original packaging, manuals, warranty cards, etc...

I'm pretty sure the warranty has expired.

The Church Lady

The lady was a Southern Baptist who attended services and taught Sunday School every week.

One Sunday, an out of town acquaintance, a gentleman, was in the pew right behind her. He noted what a fine looking woman she was.

While they were taking up the collection, the man leaned forward and said: "Hey, how about you and I having dinner on Tuesday?"

"Why yes, that would be nice", the lady responded.

Well, the gentleman couldn't believe his luck.

On Tuesday he picked the lady up and took her to the finest restaurant in that part of South Carolina. When they sat down, the gentleman looked over at her and suggested: "Would you like a cocktail before dinner?"

"Oh, no," said the fine example of southern womanhood. "What ever would I tell my Sunday School class?"

Well, the gentleman was set back a bit, so he didn't say much until after dinner, when he pulled out a pack of cigarettes and asked: "Would you like a smoke?"

"Oh my goodness no," said the woman. "I couldn't face my Sunday School class if I did!"

Well, the man felt pretty low after that, so they left, got in his car and as he was driving the lady home, they passed the local Holiday Inn. He'd been morally rebuffed twice already, and he figured he had nothing to lose, so he ventured forth with: "Ahhh, mmmm, how would you like to stop at this motel?"

"Sure, that would be nice," she said in anticipation.

The gentleman couldn't believe his ears. He did a fast u-turn right then and there, drove back to the motel, and checked in! The next morning, after a wild and passionate night of the most incredible lovemaking imaginable, the gentleman awoke first.

He looked at the lovely Dixie darlin' lying there in the bed, and with remorse, thought: "What the hell have I done?"

He shook her awake and pleaded, "I've got to ask you one thing, whatever are you going to tell your Sunday School class?"

The lady said: "The same thing I always tell them, 'You don't have to smoke and drink to have a good time.'"

That's what I learned on kinda, we'd write everything out on paper, punch out our cards carefully pack them in shoeboxes in order and oh so carefully walk down to the math department praying that we did't drop the box nor did the creep in the math dept. Then the cards became a paper program tape....Don't miss them days at all !!

Used to run one of those back in the 70s. And an old IBM360. For a large sugar company in San Francisco. Just don't let someone call out your name and cross your arms by accident. If you are on the 3rd sort, it could take hours to get if fixed.

Didn't have time for this earlier... in fact, not much time now since I'm back down at work...

First, I notice no one mentioned WinME.... the intermediate OS between Win9x and WinXP that still ran on top of MSDOS and which gave MS some time to finish XP. It never really caught on but it did include the first system protection which was later seen in full in XP as system restore. WinME could have been a nice OS had Microsoft stepped up and actually finished fixing the glitches they had in it.... since it was never fixed up, the best of the Win9x's still goes to Win98SE.

Windows Vista was MS's attempt to add bloat to XP... and they did a fine job of it if you ask most anyone... lol. The goal of course was to add back in multimedia functions like was in the XP Media Center ( also a bust in my book ). In doing so, MS also caved into the major media mongols and added in a bunch of DRM ( digital rights management ) which just further bloated the already bloated OS.

Windows 7 was the first time Microsoft actually did something right in the underlying parts of the OS. They went through the code and pulled out a lot of overly redundant stuff... ripped the DRM back out of it and then of course tweaked up the system protection to not be as much of an overlord as we saw in Vista. In the end, it ended up as an OS that really works well, in fact, it is better in most aspects than even XP and can run on lower end equipment because of all the house cleaning they did.

Windows 8... under the hood is actually even cleaner than Windows 7 and actually runs smoother and cleaner... where they messed up was the interface change. I accuse them of trying to bring back Microsoft Bob ( from back in the Win95 and WinNT days ). Of course, they did need to do something and add some type of interface for touch screen users... they just should have added it instead of trying to replace the interface ( ie the Desktop with a Start Menu etc ) they had which so many others have come to rely on. Touch screens will be another computing device we will use ... but so are desktops... they don't replace a desktop, they add another type of computer that some people do have a need for.

Windows 8.1 ( which should come out about October ) will be a free upgrade to the existing Win8 users and will also bring the desktop and start menu back for those that need that type of interface. A preview release is available but assuming that it will be what we see when it is finally released is unlikely.

I actually had a guy give me one of those about 15 years ago I just couldn't let all that tech go into a Dumpster:facepalm: so I brought it home and took it apart too see what made it tick all 400 hundred lbs of it:)

That was how I got the Tandy "laptop". The cable company I worked for was cleaning out the attic in the office and came across it. They were just going to throw it away so I brought it home with me. I was just amazed that every time they'd use it they'd put it all back into the package the same way it came out. I guess it got used a couple times a year to terminal into a piece of equipment in the field and then got put back away. Once everyone had laptops and dedicated devices meant to interface with the gear, it ended up in the attic looking like it just came off the shelf at Radio Shack.

If they actually give the Desktop back, the complete and full Desktop, with all of it's functionality, it can only improve sales. I honestly think they'll HAVE to, out of customer demand and outrage. But another thing that M$ is horrible about is changing the names of things, and putting them someplace else. What's the point (and usefulness) of that? Anything that anyone who is used to any version of Windows since 95 is almost fully lost in Win8. It's such a major transition to anyone who doesn't have a Windows Phone, or at least a Smart Phone.

I should probably have kept that to myself, but that's how I, and many others, feel about Win8. Efficiency, by itself, isn't good enough.
